I soooooooooo completely agree with you Kiwivap ! I don't own a Groove, but if I did there is NO way I would be sending it through mail back to a vendor. Likely nothing would happen, BUT the reason its been recalled means there is a chance it "could" vent during shipment and THAT would NOT be a good thing for many reason that should be obvious to all. The vendor already would have proof of my ownership through the invoice created when I purchased. They don't need the device to be returned by me to them.

I have decided not to mail back my Groove. It should be plane mail, and I know I should be responsible for any issue. Maybe this is going to cost me some money, but I refuse to do it in these conditions....

I won't be sending mine either - it would also be plane mail. Even ordinary mail would bother me. I know my vendor doesn't want it sent back and is contacting Smoktech to tell them that.

Been thinking about this discussion of shipping and re-reading the recall notice...brings up a question to ponder...

Can a fully discharged battery or one rendered dead by soaking in saturated brine for one hour still be a possible risk for venting or exploding? Maybe a battery expert can chime in.....my lay person's thoughts are that a fully discharged battery and a battery rendered dead are no longer a risk. And I'm not sure if soaking could produce any gasses that we should not come in contact with...

"I really think vendors should just check order nos. and receipts if people have receipts - and refund. "
I really think a lot of people would lie and just keep the defected Groove and the refund and still have dangerous MODs in circulation.

"I'll take a video of myself dunking it in the salt drink if I get a store credit lol"
Or a video of you dunking a piece of cardboard you painted black and wrote 'Groove" on?

Before you mail them, at least do the "3)You can also Soak them into turated brine concentrated saltwater or seawater for over 1 hour" or whatever is the best way to deactivate any problems that someone will probably post if they haven't in one of the many other Groove recall threads.

If any vendors are not offering refunds or at the least store credit, then please name and shame them. I for one will not do business with vendors that don't stand behind the products they choose to sell.

I know it's not the fault of the retailers, but as they are getting full wholesale credit for the Groove from Smoktech, the least they can do is pass that same courtesy on to their customers.

Good post Kiwivap, I find it incredible that vendors are asking for the product to be returned in the mail.

That's not the real issue here - the metal Grooves in particular can vent just from being knocked or jolted. These are the pics of a brand new groove that fell 3 feet ointo carpet - look what happened:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/apv-discussion/427656-please-read.html

It was brand new. It took one jolt. Here's the thing - that could have happened when it was in the post. It was one knock from going thermal - and it went thermal.

The idea of them being discharged or disabled is one to think about. Going to take ages for mine to discharge without being fired. Anyways, I don't think Groove owners need accusations of them being dishonest. We were sold seriously risky mods. Telling people to send them through the post when just a jolt can cause them to go thermal is not an optimal solution.

Well my vendor is still talking about me disposing of it and he'll refund me. So it would seem Smoktech are not requiring everyone to send them in, but they need to be disposed of. There's a battery recycling/dumping place I can take mine to.

Some vendors are saying they won't accept people deactivating them in those ways and then posting them back.
I'm not sending mine through the mail - I'm taking it to a battery recycle/dump centre.
