I had a cheap e-cig a while ago that sucked. I smoke two disgusting packs of full flavor, extremely mentholy cigarettes every day and I can just feel it killing me. After reading these forums for days, I think I want a provari and whatever I need to drip with, but it's out of my price range. Then I found these power cigs ecigs.com that plug into a usb port and don't even need batteries. Do these things provide the same amount of vapor as the expensive portable types like the provari? Can I drip with it? Is dripping best for a chain smoker? If I'm at my computer all the time, what should I buy??

If you want to drip for the most part, a big expensive variable voltage PV isn't going to improve anything for you. A nice 900 mah PV like a KGO or an E Power will likely last you all day. It will also let you use other juice systems just as well. Once you are more certain what juice system in addition to dripping you want, a variable voyage PV will let you tweak for a little more satisfaction.

Yes there are very reasonably priced passthroughs that are great when you are stationary. Some have batteries you can use on the go, and some have no battery.

Being a very heavy menthol smoker, I'm concerned about buying anything cheap that may not satisfy me. I may just get a provari even though I can't really afford it. I thought I would end up dripping because I thought that provided the most vapor but now I don't know. I have about $150 and I want to get the right thing.

If that is what you want, by all means buy one. I have a Provari too. I was just presenting a path to help you nail down the most important items (juice, juice delivery) first. Vaping is a fiddly business and minimizing the variables makes it easier to make individual decisions. But, no one I know ever regretted buying a Provari.

Ok, if you are aware of the different systems, then to decide on what suits you. You should try cartomizers, carto/tanks (if cartomizers were ok for you) and at least a few of the various clearomizers including fluxomizers, top coil clearomizers and bottom coil clearomizers. And last but not least, atomizers for dripping.

Juices are a real trial and error exercise. Get a few sample packs from different venders. Don't buy juice in anything but small bottles until you have zeroed in on a few you like. You might try browsing here"

I have spent hundreds and ironically ego twist cost me the least and I like it the best I wish someone had told me about it when I started and it's 24.99 on alt smoke's web site and with the charger and wall connecter it's all around 45 dollars with shipping and you can change the voltage which helps me because my taste buds are shot but you will find what right for you. Hope that helps Happy vapping )

Over the edge...
Get a lavatube.
The lavatube is as close as you can get to a provari.

I agree. Awesome device for the price.
However...
I'm not gonna carry it around with me when I'm away from home for 12 to 14 hours a day. I have a twist especially for that. Even the 1000 mah version fits in my pocket or mini maglight holster. That's about the biggest device that's practical for me to carry.

Edit: If I were at the computer all day, the Lavatube would be just fine.

I'll chime in by saying I own both the twist and provari. Each has it's purpose and time to use. Off for a quick walk but want a vape on hand? Guess which one would take the walk with me. Provari? Great device. I've got two. BUT it's a little heavy for the walk. Always good to have a second lighter option. Twist is good for what it does and it's price. It's a VV priced in the low $20s.
