This is a college Brief and started as a 2200 page report that I conducted out at local malls as surveys. Since inception, A board of litigators is seeking interest in the outcome of my report to introduce as litigation, should they approve of its validity, for a potential civil/class action litigation process to help fight the FDA ban on e-cigarettes and vaping products.
I would like to thank those of you who have already participated and would like to encourage those that haven't to please to the time ( just a few minutes) to respond. If you have any extra comments outside of the posted questions.. please feel free to breifly comment at the end of your post!!

Just a regular thought for anyone to ponder.
I just wanted to see exactly what frequency of time throughout the day that people that used to smoke heavy... now, vape heavy but,

1. In comparison, For those of you that just vape now and have quit analogs entirely. Do you still use nicotine- If so,
A. When did you start vaping and what other cessation methods have you attempted, and what was their outcome?
B. How long had you been smoking analogs?
C. How long did it take you to quit smoking analogs?
(If you continued after getting your e-cig)
D. Based on your memory.. What MG of nic did you start with and give a brief synopsis of your progression. For example, I started with 36MG and in 1 month , I went to 24 MG. Now, I am working myself down to 18 MG because I have primarily been smoking tobacco flavors to make sure that I am not tempted for an analog. ( at least, I figure that I would be a little more grounded with the tobacco flavors at first.)
I also want to lower my nic, not only to get away from nic but, I tried several candy flavorings that tasted bitter because of the nic. I eventually want to go down to 0 nic and especially am looking forward to several candy flavors pure taste rather than being corrupted by the nic juice.

2. How many of you vape heavier than you used to smoke analogs and give your explaination of why you figure you are a heavier vaper, otherwise?

1. Yes I still use nicotine
A)About two and a half to three weeks ago but had a less than adequate personal vaporizer that was only good enough as to give me a hint of the potential behind the devices.
B)Average of 1.5 packs a day for twenty four years (Which means I started VERY young but smoked maybe 1/2 a pack a week, up to at least a pack a day by late teens, commonly over 2 packs a day throughout my twenties and average a 1.5 per day for last 6-8 years)
C)Had my last analog the night I received enough supplies in the mail to enable me to use my PV from that point on.
D)24mg...proving already to be more than I really need and will probably step down to 18mg on next order.

2) I would have to admit that I do vape heavier than I would have smoked and I think the reason for that is: Nobody around me (many non-smokers) are bothered by my habit any longer and I can do it anytime anywhere. (including inside the home of a hard core non-smoker). And because my lungs feel clearer than they have in years to the point where I almost feel as though the vapor has in some way cleaned them (odd and probably not the case but it feels that way)

If you want further testimonial from me Tom just click my user name and view my posts. If there's anything I can do to assist send me a PM.

Thanks for your efforts.

1. In comparison, For those of you that just vape now and have quit analogs entirely. Do you still use nicotine- If so,

A. When did you start vaping

Early July 2009

B. How long had you been smoking analogs

23 years. Generally a 1 pack per day smoker, but for about 2 years I was up to 3 packs per day, and for about 10 years I was a solid 2 packs per day.

C. How long did it take you to quit smoking analogs

3 days after the arrival of my 1st E-Cigarette.

(If you continued after getting your e-cig)

D. Based on your memory.. What MG of nic did you start with and give a brief synopsis of your progression.

24mg, then progressed down to 18mg after 2 months, now I am going lower. Last night I ordered my first ZERO nic juice (along with low nic juices) to eliminate my dependency on nicotine. I plan to stop vaping by February 2010.

My goal was always to quit smoking cigarettes and nothing ever worked for me. Nicotine replacement via patch or gum did not do it because not only did I crave nicotine, but the mechanics of smoking was in my daily routine. The act of holding a cigarette, of inhaling the smoke (the feeling of it entering and exiting my body) along with the "something to do with my hands" thing was all too much for me to quit. Cold turkey worked well... twice... for no longer than a month each time. E-cigs finally broke my want and desire to smoke entirely.

After about 4 months of vaping I finally was able to recognize that I had no dependency on it. Meaning, I could easily wake up, go about my day for 4, 6, 8 hours without feeling a strong urge to vape. I now do it purely because I love and enjoy the various flavors available. I do not get cranky or show any physical/psychological signs of dependency, so I can easily leave home without my e-cig/PV and go out and do things without freaking out needing to vape.

2. How many of you vape heavier than you used to smoke analogs and give your explaination of why you figure you are a heavier vaper, otherwise.

I have vaped more frequently than I would light up a cigarette for many reasons:

1) Since I no longer have to worry about stinking up my home, I can vape in my house

2) I no longer have to worry about absurdly restrictive public laws that once prohibited me from smoking in a public place, so now I can 'get my fix' in public

3) I no longer have to step outside to partake. I live in a severe cold-weather winter state where we can see 45 BELOW ZERO, and are routinely at sub-zero temps for a couple of months

4) At the nic levels I have vaped at, there is less of a 'buzz' than what I got from a cigarette

5) I do not feel a loss of energy or ambition from vaping as I once did smoking

6) I do not suffer from chest pains, coughing fits, or any other physical agitation from vaping as I did smoking

Thanks u 2 ... sure this will pick up in the morn.. I would like this one to hit two hundred so that I have a truly measurable assessment. I already have 550.. on my control.. and over seven hundred on the smokers observations.. all I need is this two hundred to bring me equal to the seven hundred smokers. anyway, I have gotten great detail so far with my previous thread and the replies here.. I appreciate you contribution.
Thanks,

1. In comparison, For those of you that just vape now and have quit analogs entirely. Do you still use nicotine- If so,

Yes I still use nicotine in the liquid

A. When did you start vaping and what other cessation methods have you attempted, and what was their outcome?

I started end of march 09

I quit "cold turkey" for a year once but went back to smoking during a very stressful period.

And I've tried to use gum but it didn't work at all, just tastes bad.

B. How long had you been smoking analogs?

Almost 15 years between a 1 and 2 packs a day.

C. How long did it take you to quit smoking analogs?
(If you continued after getting your e-cig)

1 week after I recieved a reliable pv

D. Based on your memory.. What MG of nic did you start with and give a brief synopsis of your progression. For example, I started with 36MG and in 1 month , I went to 24 MG. Started out with 36mg and will still vape that when I can get it, but mostly vape 24mg because its easier to find. No plans on cutting down or stopping.

2. How many of you vape heavier than you used to smoke analogs and give your explaination of why you figure you are a heavier vaper, otherwise?

When I first started using a PV I used it constantly, now I vape about like I smoked which is prob on the heavy side, but I don't really keep track of it.

1. In comparison, For those of you that just vape now and have quit analogs entirely. Do you still use nicotine- If so,

A. When did you start vaping

Early October 2009

B. How long had you been smoking analogs

45 years, on & off. I have quit cold turkey several times for extended periods; for as long as 9 years off from 3-1/2 packs a day. Would start again due to a stressor.

C. How long did it take you to quit smoking analogs
(If you continued after getting your e-cig)

I had actually quit analogs in Feb, but the part of smoking that always brought me back was the mechanical motions - holding, taking a drag, inhaling, etc. E-cig gives me the opportunity to quench that mechanical desire without the smoke and nicotine.

D. Based on your memory.. What MG of nic did you start with and give a brief synopsis of your progression.

I am vaping 0mg, menthol and experimenting with tobacco flavoring. I have no intention of adding nic. Just striving for the best flavor and best vapor production.

2. How many of you vape heavier than you used to smoke analogs and give your explaination of why you figure you are a heavier vaper, otherwise.

I vape more frequently than smoking a cigarette for various reasons:

- no smoke = no stink, so I can vape in my house

- no smoke = no smoke alarm issue (& no stink), so I can vape at my desk at work

- no loss of energy from vaping or other negative physical manifestations from vaping

E-cigs are a great alternative for those who can't (won't) give up cigarettes for one reason or another - allows us to get away from all the bad that is documented about cigarettes.

A. When did you start vaping and what other cessation methods have you attempted, and what was their outcome?

I started almost 3 weeks ago. I have not tried any other methods as I had no desire to quit. I was looking at e-cigs as something to suppliment and compliment my smoking, not replace it.

B. How long had you been smoking analogs?

I had smoked an average of 2 packs a day for the past 15 years.

I wouldn't say I vape more, although it seems like it. Rather than smoking a full analog at a time, I take a couple of hits from my pv and pick it back up later. Drag for drag, I probably actually vape less.

I started vaping in May 2009. I previously tried the gum, the lozenge, the patch and cold turkey. None of these other methods worked.

B. How long had you been smoking analogs?
I smoked analogs over 40 years...2 packs a day

C. How long did it take you to quit smoking analogs?
(If you continued after getting your e-cig)
It took me about a month to totally quit. When I first started vaping I went down to 3 cigarettes a day immediately, then tapered off from there.

D. Based on your memory.. What MG of nic did you start with and give a brief synopsis of your progression.
I started with 16mg, went to 24mg, tried 36mg..too strong, back to 24mg and now at 18mg. I also use 12mg HV juice from NHaler.

2. How many of you vape heavier than you used to smoke analogs and give your explaination of why you figure you are a heavier vaper, otherwise?
Vape about the same as I smoked...chain smoking and now chain vaping.

1. I only receive nicotine through vaping.
A. I never attempted to stop smoking.
B. 45 years of 2+ packs a day.
C. Finished with analogs within two weeks of discovering e-cigs. Wasn't trying to quite, it just happened.
D. I started with 24mgs. I have since been a DIY juice maker. My nic is between 11 and 18mg.
2. I would estimate about the same.

1. In comparison, For those of you that just vape now and have quit analogs entirely. Do you still use nicotine- If so,
A. When did you start vaping and what other cessation methods have you attempted, and what was their outcome?

I started vaping around the start of september, I have tried "cold turkey" with temporary success (see next paragraph for clarification), the patch and gum and both gave me some sort of allergic reaction. And I tried chantix but I had some sort of allergic reaction, and severe nausea.

B. How long had you been smoking analogs?

My first analog was thirteen years old I believe, I smoked occasionally till 14 1/2 then quit for a year using cold turkey with the help of access issues then at 15 1/2 I got a girlfriend whom was 17 who smoked and I started up again I quit for 6 months between 16 and 16 1/2 then picked them up again, till age 23 (my present age)

C. How long did it take you to quit smoking analogs?
(If you continued after getting your e-cig)

about 1 and 1/2 maybe 2 months to be totally analog free. I cut my analog use in half for the first month then got my joye306 cut it down 3/4th's then 2 weeks later my dse901 and I quit buying them all together. I'd still bum an analog or two a week until the end of october then they started to make me sick so I finally put them down for good.

D. Based on your memory.. What MG of nic did you start with and give a brief synopsis of your progression. For example, I started with 36MG and in 1 month , I went to 24 MG. I started with 18MG then when I totally quit smoking analogs I went up to 24 and current vape 18-24 depending on the flavor, situation, and amount of craving.

2. How many of you vape heavier than you used to smoke analogs and give your explaination of why you figure you are a heavier vaper, otherwise?

Sometime I vape heavier than when I smoked analogs for no typical reason just force of habit I suppose but within a couple of weeks of becoming a true vaper no analogs I found I could go several hours without vaping and not go insane like I once did with analogs.

1. In comparison, For those of you that just vape now and have quit analogs entirely. Do you still use nicotine- YES

If so,

A. When did you start vaping and what other cessation methods have you attempted, and what was their outcome?

I started vaping about one year ago. I tried, prior to that, Chantix twice (>1 year ago and 2 years ago). I did not smoke at all while on Chantix, but the first time I finished the treatment, I got a very strong feeling of depression (1st time ever in my life) and a cig cured it instantly. The second time, a dermatologist had me quit Chantix as he thought to be related to an erythema nodosum I had. It turned out not to be the case, but then I started vaping to avoid cigarettes. Never touched an analog ever since.

B. How long had you been smoking analogs?

25 years, 1 pack a day

C. How long did it take you to quit smoking analogs?
(If you continued after getting your e-cig)

right away

D. Based on your memory.. What MG of nic did you start with and give a brief synopsis of your progression. For example, I started with 36MG and in 1 month , I went to 24 MG. I have consistently been on 12 or 18 mg. For the first 8 months exclusively on PG tobacco flavored. now I am experiencing many VG flavors.

2. How many of you vape heavier than you used to smoke analogs and give your explaination of why you figure you are a heavier vaper, otherwise?

I do, as I chain vape, but it is not clear if I am getting more nicotine than I did while smoking. I tolerate long periods of abstinence (long flights, meetings) much better than when I was on analogs.

fingers crossed. good luck to you for your brief.

Also tried and failed with: Lozenges, Patch, Gum, Wellbutrin, Cold Turkey, Nicotine reduction, Hypnotism.

C. How long did it take you to quit smoking analogs? Quit on day #1.

1st two months @ 24mg and 3mL/day.
2nd month @ 12MG and 3mL/day

3rd month @ 6mg and 2/mL/day

2. How many of you vape heavier than you used to smoke analogs and give your explanation of why you figure you are a heavier vaper, otherwise?

I originally vaped much more than I smoked as I believe I was addicted to another chemical in cigarettes other than nicotine. Since I lowered my nic levels to 6mg, I vape much less frequently and find myself with less cravings for the nicotine and more as a source to relieve my scratchy throat that I get when I do not inhale for several hours.

I have used gum and lozenges and within 1-2 weeks I was back to smoking. I started vaping on Friday, September 25, 2009 at 5:30 PM. I have had two puffs on a traditional cigarette on Sunday September 27, 2009 and I haven't used a traditional cigarette since then.
B. How long had you been smoking analogs?
7 years.
C. How long did it take you to quit smoking analogs?
(If you continued after getting your e-cig)
I essentially quit instantly. I tried two puffs on a traditional cigarette two days after I started vaping, just to see if I even want to do both, and the answer was a resounding no.
D. Based on your memory.. What MG of nic did you start with and give a brief synopsis of your progression.
My starter pack came with 16 mg cartridges and my first order of liquid was 24mg. I cut this with glycerin down to 12-18 mg most of the time, but still occasionally use it at 24mg.

2. How many of you vape heavier than you used to smoke analogs and give your explaination of why you figure you are a heavier vaper, otherwise?
I vape more often than I previously smoked, and I believe there are several reasons behind this: I enjoy doing it; I can do it at my desk, while working without having to step outside; it tastes good; I don't smell bad during or afterward; the nicotine content is not a high dose, but meets my cravings; there are no side effects or drawbacks as long as I don't use too high a strength of nicotine in my juice.

1. I no longer use nicotine
A) Several of the over the counter products. They didn’t work.
B) Off and on (more on than off) for forty years.
C) Can’t remember the exact day, around the 20th of March, 2009.
D) Used preloaded at the time. Started with the high, went to Medium, then low, then none.

2) Admittedly, I vape heavier than I smoked. I stopped smoking in the house when my youngest was around five—he is 33 now. I did this because he had asthma and because I discovered my house and clothes smelt better. Vaping doesn’t affect him or stink up the house so I vape at will. I can also vape in the homes non smokers: Family and friend, and I stealth vape in a lot of restrooms.

Gum. Didn't work.

About a week.

I started with 36mg tobacco flavor. Once I tried other flavors I didn't much care for the tobacco flavor anymore. I stayed at 36 for a couple months. Now I alternate between 36, 25 & 18 depending on my mood and how my device is working. I still crave the vapor and throat hit and just started mixing my own liquid to find the right recipe to satisfy my craving for throat hit, flavor and vapor so I can begin reducing the nic level.

2. How many of you vape heavier than you used to smoke analogs and give your explaination of why you figure you are a heavier vaper, otherwise? I do vap heavier mostly because I really enjoy the flavors and I can do it in the house and car. Also, I feel much better and don't smell.

I do not desire an analog at all anymore. In fact the thought of using an analog turns me off completely. I cannot stand the smell of analogs any more.

. In comparison, For those of you that just vape now and have quit analogs entirely. Do you still use nicotine- If so,
Absolutely.
A. When did you start vaping and what other cessation methods have you attempted, and what was their outcome?
These are two separate questions, and you are just getting one answered by most folks.
1) March 27, 2009
2) Nicotine abstinence (weaning down from patch over 2 months) made me very, very sick, in a progressive manner as the nicotine decreased. After I was totally off nicotine, I waited 6 months to get better and it never happened. So I went back to smoking.
I figured out that the ONLY way I could ever quit smoking would be if I could replace adequate amounts of nicotine on a permanent basis.

When Gum first became available OTC, I tried that, but the flavor was just too disgusting. When they came out in better flavors, Gum only got me part way there. I can't bring myself to chew more than 6 or 7 pieces a day. Upsets my stomach.
B. How long had you been smoking analogs?
45 Years
C. How long did it take you to quit smoking analogs?
Right away.
(If you continued after getting your e-cig)
D. Based on your memory.. What MG of nic did you start with and give a brief synopsis of your progression.
The kit came with 16 mg. in the cartridges. I was doing OK on that in terms of not having cravings, but I started to notice that my anxiety level was going up, I was becoming more "sensitive" (i.e., mild depression), and I has having problems concentrating. I sent away for 24 mg. liquid and my problems cleared up.

2. How many of you vape heavier than you used to smoke analogs and give your explaination of why you figure you are a heavier vaper, otherwise?

I really can't tell. If I take more puffs than I did on cigs it is because we are not getting the same amount of nicotine per puff that we got from tobacco cigarettes. Or maybe I just wasn't taking enough puffs on the 16 mg. cartridges. Hard to say.

Oct 2, 2009- I have tried Cigarrest (my first cessation tool), another method was decreasing cigarettes by smoking one less cig a day than the day before (wasn't too bad at first but then I could not lower the amount of cigs a day due to my long hours at work, I was awake for too many hours in a day), another method was to take 3 hits and put it out as this method stated that for most people- after 3 puffs their need for the cig was over and the continuation to smoke was due to habit- that was out because I would not relight a burnt out cig and it got expensive, nicorette- just nasty, and recently the lozenges- not too bad but they burn and actually are more chalky tasting- not pleasant- none of them were methods that worked for me, & I have never been able to go cold turkey
B. How long had you been smoking analogs?

20 yrs- started about 1/2 a pack a day for a year and it went up to a pack a day for about 2 years and then I was at 2 packs a day for about 10- I started trying to quit and brought it down to 1 1/2 packs a day to a pack a day before I found vaping.
C. How long did it take you to quit smoking analogs?
(If you continued after getting your e-cig)

I am down to less than half a pack a day

I purchased a few strengths because my ultimate goal is to decrease my nicotine intake, I have 18 mg all the way down to 0 mg and the carts that came w/ the kit, a few are 24 mg- 24 mg seemed high so 18 mg is my main stay and for the sake of some of the flavors I use 12 mg and 0 mg mixed into the 18 mg- I have not decreased consistently as I have only been vaping a little over a month.

2. How many of you vape heavier than you used to smoke analogs and give your explaination of why you figure you are a heavier vaper, otherwise?

I vape at about the rate I smoked- & since I still have occasional cigarettes in between the day (usually when a regular cigarette is more convenient) the only cigarette that I still actually crave is that first one in the morning. I do not vape heavier and did not in the beginning. I will occasionally vape inside the house but our habit has been to not expose our kids or the house to smoke so it kind of carried over to the vaping. But this could be another reason why I have not completely quit cigarettes also. I will try to up my vaping rate and may not need a cigarette at all. I keep cartridges ready most of the time to try and keep it as convenient as possible but there are the times I am not close to my additional carts so I grab a cigarette. I am coming up with a method that will eliminate this problem and hope the techniques I use to make cigarettes less convenient will help me to get off of them completely.

1. I use nicotine

A) Started vaping March 16, 2009.
the patch - allergic skin reaction had to stop.
the gum - tasted horrible, chose to stop.
chantix - worked but caused severe depression, chose to stop.
zyban - didn't work and made me nauseous, chose to stop.
cold turkey - lasted a year then started smoking again.

B) smoked an average of 1 pack a day for twenty years.

C) Took two weeks and have been analog free since March 31, 2009.

D) Started with 24mg/ml and vaped that strength for approximately two months now I vape 18mg/ml on a regular basis.

2. I vaped very heavily for the first three months but now I find myself vaping less frequently than I used to smoke; without the associated stress/anxiety I experienced when trying to quit or cut back on analogs.

1. In comparison, For those of you that just vape now and have quit analogs entirely. Do you still use nicotine- If so,
A. When did you start vaping and what other cessation methods have you attempted, and what was their outcome?

August 2009

I hadn't used any cessation methods this time. In the past, I've used gum and quit cold turkey. Quit cold turkey in 2006 for over nine months, when I was pregnant.

B. How long had you been smoking analogs?

About 22 years, on & off. Mostly on.

C. How long did it take you to quit smoking analogs?

About a week, because I was using an inferior e-cig. Quit as soon as I got my 510 a week later.

(If you continued after getting your e-cig)

N/A because I quit tobacco. But I've been using 10-12mg the whole time. I just ordered some extra low, though, 6-8mg.

2. How many of you vape heavier than you used to smoke analogs and give your explaination of why you figure you are a heavier vaper, otherwise?

I THINK vape heavier, but it's hard to tell. I wouldn't smoke indoors, so I could only smoke when I had a chance - usually when the baby was sleeping. I could go most of the day without a cigarette, if life wasn't too stressful. But I averaged about 1/2 pack a day, sometimes more.

Since I can vape indoors and plug it into my computer, I vape pretty much all day, instead of taking breaks, but if I figure 1 cigarette=1 refill (15-20 puffs) and I refill 8-10 times a day, it may be even. It's like stretching that 1/2 pack out all day, just puffing on it once in a while.

So, instead of having those 200 puffs in 10, 15 minute periods throught the day, I'm vaping 200 puffs throughout the day, at any given time. So, it FEELS like I'm vaping constantly, but hard to tell if it's actually more than I smoked.
