Hi everyone! First post here!

I've been vaping for about 6 mos now, and haven't touched tobacco since the day my first ecig showed up. Yay! After a 17 yr 2 pack a day habit! ;)

I've been using Firelight Micro ecig from the beginning, but its costing me a ton as i use it a lot and I'm frying approx 4-6 batteries a month as well as a few atomizers. So...need a new ecig, and cheaper overall is better, obviously.

Tons of people here are raving about the Joye 510 and the Joye eGo...I saw Mistress Nomad's video on 510, looks good, but the eGo is getting rave reviews. I should also say that I'm not into any of these conversion things, or any major modifications at this point...just going for simple, reliable, cheap, and satisfying. BUT I would like be able to use ejuice instead of prefilled cartridges. I don't quite understand the diff between cartomizer and atomizers, or whatnot...but want to use the juice. Just ordered some 'Atomic Cinnacide' and 'Cafe Macchiato' that i'm very excited about..have only used reg tobacco and menthol juice before now, so its thrilling to try something new.

So...510 or eGo? I can't for the life of me tell the difference, and most of what i'm reading is talking way over my head. I like the idea of those manual batteries, but they both have those, right? And are there any things other than the base starter kits and a few extra batteries/atomizers that i need in order to use juice in the cheapest way possible for a heavy user?

Thanks so much. Spent many hours here hunting for info, and just finally gave up and figured asking was the way to go. I'm also mondo broke, so if anyone knows of a good place with big sale on right now, please share. Otherwise, i'm gonna try Electronicstix or litecig usa a try with the coupon code from the list.

REALLY appreciate your time and benefit of your experience. I simply don't have the moola to be switching ecig brands left and right like crazy, so its important that i get something that works for me now and in the future. Quite frankly, i'm just hoping to not have a ton of fried batteries and atomizers. Oh...and does anyone know how to dispose of dead ecig batteries? I've got a ton of em!

Thanks!!!

Welcome to ECF, congrats on 6 months, that is great. I recommend the Joye eGo because it has great battery life, good flavor, throat hit and vapor. E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings has a great sale right now, you need to click on the 20% sign on the top left, then scroll down to the eGo. They only have pink, red, titanium and white left. Their shipping is only $2.99, I would suggest ordering a drip tip also, the kit comes with 2 batteries, 2 atomizers and 5 cartridges. Drip tips and only couple of bucks and worth trying whether you like dripping or filling cartridges. If you want to try cartomizers you can order a pack of blank ones and fill them with your juice also. Any other questions just ask. Happy vaping!!

Welcome, orachel! The difference between a 510 and an eGo battery is the size and the size will determine how long that battery will last between charges. A 510 is a slimmer, smaller sized battery that can last for a couple of hours or more depending on how much you use it. The eGo is a much bigger, fatter battery. The basic eGo battery can last around 6 hours or so and again, this depends on how much you use it. Both styles have what is called 510 threads, so anything that is designed for the 510 can be used with them...atomizers, cartomizers, cartridges.

You can choose to use cartomizers, which are just the atomizer and cartridge all in one piece, hence the term "cartomizer." Basic cartomizers can be filled by taking off the cap and dripping juice on to the filler inside. You can also use an atomizer with a separate cartridge. You fill the cartridge with your juice by dripping juice on to the filler and put the cartridge on the atomizer to vape.

Before you buy, think about how much you smoke. Social smokers, people who generally aren't heavy smokers or people looking for something more similar to an analog sized battery might like the 510 better. Heavy smokers and people who aren't concerned with the battery looking like an analog might do better with the eGo. The choice is completely up to you and what you think is going to suit you better. I would suggest going with manual batteries because they're sealed (no hole at the top of the battery) and you won't have to worry about juice leaking into it and ruining it.

There are plenty of places to buy both of these. Once you made your decision you'll need to shop around to see who has the best price. I would suggest that you check out LibertyFlights, LiteCigUSA, MadVapes and CigNot.

The Ego is essentially a 510. The main difference, as others mentioned is the battery size.

Standard 510: 180 mah

Standard eGO: 650 mah

Th extra size of the battery is in the diameter - it is fatter.

You may know some of this already, but the importance of numbers, like 510, 801, KR808, etc. is threading - they connect. Each model is different as well, but at least you know (in most cases) the pieces fit together...

Ok, i'm definitely a heavy vaper, so I think the eGo sounds best from what you guys have said. I'm not sure whether the cartomizers or the atomizers/cartridges are the thing to do, though. Drat..there are a lot of options, aren't there? lol K...so i need to get the basic kit (and thanks so much for the referral to the 20% off savings!!!) and perhaps some extra parts and a drip tip. Don't know what the heck that is, but it sounds good! rofl K...off to look at specs..i'm sure i'll be back with specific questions. And any other peeps who have suggestions, please share. Thanks again, so much, for your assistance!

Like Nightseer says, the only difference is battery size. That means that the eGo last way longer than the Joye 510. I'd go with the eGo for sure unless having something more the size of a reg. cig. is important. I have both, and the eGo is really the way to go. All of the parts are interchangeable....same threading, in other words. They both come with atomizers and cartridges....so you can definitely use your own juice with both. Again...go eGo. The difference between atomizers and cartomizers: A cartomizer (carto) is a one-piece unit that has the atomizer and the cartridge all in one. An atomizer is just the little heating element. If you have atomizers (attys) and cartridges (carts) then you just fill the cartridge with juice, stick it on the atomizer, screw it onto the battery, and vape away. If you use cartos, you fill the carto, screw it onto the battery, and vape away. There are pros and cons for each. It's really a personal preference. You will hear about dripping, too. That's when you take the cart off of the atomizer, drip about 3 drops directly onto the heating coil (atty), then vape for about 7-10 puffs. Then you do it again, and on and on. There are lots of options like different sized carts/attys, and cartos, but that is basically the three options: attys/carts, cartomizers, or dripping. Lots of people (me) use all three methods depending on the situation. For instance, I use cartomizers in the car....attys/carts at home mostly, dripping at home sometimes, esp. when I want to try out a new liquid and don't want to have to fill an entire cart with it.

E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings is having a sale on eGos right now....$39.99 for a kit with 2 full e-cigs in it...including 2 batteries, two atomizers, a charger, and 5 or 10 empty carts. That's a GREAT deal and almost as cheap as the smaller Joye 510. I'd do that.

JMHO, but I would start with one thing at a time so you don't get frustrated. Forget about the drip tip for now and just get a starter kit, a couple of extra atomizers, maybe some cartomizers if you'd like to try them and several 5ml bottles of juice in different flavors. Start simple, get comfortable and then you can start exploring and experimenting with other equipment and methods of vaping. It's just a suggestion, but I think doing it one step at a time will save you tons of frustration and prevent becoming completely overwhelmed.

WomanOfHeart...great minds think alike. Intrigued by the dripping, but that will wait, i think. BUT def want to try the cartomizers. So, just to be clear...when using a cartomizer, you remove the regular atomizer, right? I know i need spare batteries, but with the starter kit coming with 2 of everything, I want to know if i need extra atomizers if i'm also getting a spare pack of 5 cartomizers. So basically, the cartomizer is INSTEAD of the atomizer, right? So if i get the starter pack with 2 of everything, plus an extra battery (hoping with the long lasting battery/guarantee of 6 mos bat life) a total of 3 bat will be ok...plus a pack of 5 cartomizers....That should work, right? Already ordered the Atomic Cinnacide and Macchiato smoke juice and i've got a giant bottle of menthol already. Do i need more than the 2 cones it comes with? I'm not quite sure what cones do or if they're disposable. And it comes with 5 tobacco cartridges...i can just refill those if i'm using the atomizer instead of cartomizer right? Or do i need spares? rofl Too funny. Anyway, any answers will be greatly appreciated! ;)

Yes, the atomizer is instead of the cartomizer. Two atomizers come with the kit....if you get five cartomizers, that will be good. You might want to get an extra atomizer (or two) but you wouldn't have to. You will be set for awhile with what you're ordering. The cones (2 come with it) are mostly cosmetic. They do tend to make the vape a little "tighter"...but the e-cigs will work fine without them. You won't need spares. They are not disposable.

orachel,

You've done your homework! Yes, when using a cartomizer, you remove the atomizer as the cartomizer is a cartridge with an atomizer built in. These can be filled many times before discarding. You will need your atomizer when using a cartridge or for when you decide to try dripping down the road.
A cone is not disposable, but you do not "have" to use it. Some people like the "airyness" (is that even a word?! lol) of the draw without the cone in place. Others like it on. It can also keep you from feeling an atty that's getting hot when vaping. Of course then there's also the look....some prefer, some do not. HTH!
Sounds like you have it all down though....enjoy your eGo...you're going to love it!!!

Ok...now i'm figuring this out. Further question...I know i need another battery in addition to the 2 that come with kit. Is there a drawback to the 'pass through' battery as my spare? I'm pretty much in one place for 85% of my vaping time, so it makes sense. It says its a manual passthrough, so i'm guessing it doesn't have the hole that allows batteries to flood and die?

Lastly, with the Ego, do empty cartridges need to be replaced often if you're using ejuice, or do they pretty much go on indefinitely if you keep sticking juice in em? Kit comes with 5 full ones. Guessing i can refill those once they're dead. They don't have any matching ones in empties, so wondering how soon i'll need new blanks with this ecig. Oh, and any weird equipment i need to fill those cartridges or cartomizers?

Thanks!!!

The cones just makes everything look better together. For me, the cone also protects my fingers from touching a sometimes hot cartomizer or atomizer. It gives me more space to hold on to my eGo.

I still consider myself in the experimental stage of vaping. I just started dripping more at home and I'm still checking out the different types of cartomizers that are available. There are a lot of avenues to finding the vaping style that will work the best for you. That's why I suggested just starting simple and working your way up. It seems like every time I've found what could be "the holy grail" of vaping for me, something new and exciting pops up that everyone is trying and raving about. It's just like computers and gaming for me, damn it! LOL!

If you're looking at the eGo pass-through for a spare, I say go for it. You really shouldn't need a third battery, but it never hurts because ..... happens with vaping just like it does with everything else. I have a regular 510 PT that I use at home. I'm in front of my computer about 90% of the time, so it works out really well for me.

Cartridges can be refilled over and over again. You can try the pre-filleds that come with the kit. I hated the ones that came with mine and the carts were promptly dumped out, cleaned and refilled with a tasty juice that I bought from VaporBomb (shameless vendor plug and hint there...lol)

Welcome to ECF!

Regarding drip tips: I use a drip tip as a mouthpiece and attach it to the end of the cartomizer. I don't drip liquid into the drip tip. That way, I don't have to put the end of the cartomizer into my mouth. Drip tips are sold with the intent that you drip the liquid into the drip tip and then the liquid goes down into the atomizer, but when I drip (very rarely because I prefer cartomizers), I take off the drip tip and drip directly into the atomizer -- to prevent getting liquid into my mouth and having liquid build up inside the drip tip.

Regarding cone covers: I don't use them, because I have to suck harder to get vapor. Dragging on an e-cig (for me) is much easier without using the cone. The cone just screws onto the battery and over the cartomizer (or atomizer), and then the drip tip pushes into the end of the cartomizer. The cone basically covers the threads in the middle of the PV and is not required at all.

Okie doke. Well, if a third battery isn't an absolute necessity right out of the gate, i'm gonna hold off then. They're out of the pass thru ones in pink ;) and i'd rather not spend extra on a 3rd reg battery if i want a pass through as soon as they're in stock. Soooo...for time being, i think i'm just gonna grab the main Ego kit and pack of 5 cartomizers. That gives me 2 of everything, single charger, 5 empty cartridges to refill. If anyone sees glaring stuff missing, yowl at me! rofl I'll def check out the juice place you mentioned, WomanOfHeart, but for time being, i just ordered 2 flavors of juice and have a HUGE bottle of menthol already. There's a few flavors i'm dying to try, but for time being i'm being conservative financially. Have any favorites from place you mentioned that you swear by?

Thanks you...all of you....SOOOO much. I was doing the whole yanking of hair/gnashing of teeth trying to figure out the basics of what i need. But anyway you cut it, i'm praying' this ego is more substantive in terms of output and satisfaction than my firelight ultra and costs a lot less in spare parts! ;) I think i'm just too heavy of a user for it, honestly.

Big big thanks! Yell out if you see anything i'm missing! Oh...i have a teensy weensy dropper...I don't need a syringe or anything to fill cartomizers, do i?

happy holidays!

hmmm..you think i need the extra atomizers even with the pack of 5 extra cartomizers? I'll add em! :) Plus i need to check out the sites rush delivery options for future when i get stuck. I try to be conservative and always have extra, but inevitably you need rush parts sooner or later.

K...so i've got basic pack now with 2 batt, 2 atom, 2 cones, 1 charger, 5 cartridges. Adding pack of 5 cartomizers. Got a few bottles of juice. Will add extra pass thru battery as soon as its in stock (but for time being will just have the 2 batt it comes with). Don't have a syringe or anything, but do have a tiny dropper. And now adding at least one extra atomizer. Sooo...good? Least for the first few weeks? Yell out if you see problems. Man...would be convenient if there were a local place to pick out this stuff, fo sho! lol Thanks again, everyone!!!

ROCK on!!! Thank you all so very very much for your help! You made a rather frazzley process simple and clear! ;) Now i just can't wait till i'm vaping with my new pink smokey treat es'travaganza of satisfaction! You should see me...i'm now glaring at my old ecig in absolute irritation. rofl Aw well. He served me well! lol
