Unless I'm mistaken, the law here is that fireworks are legal as long as they don't move and don't explode ... that rules out most of what I saw and heard while driving around town this evening. I enjoy the BIG shows put on the local governments with big budgets from our tax money. But, getting close enough for the fully immersed experience means a hour of bumper to bumper both before and after the show. But, I can usually find a location 2 or 3 miles away and avoid most of that.

No pets here.

Right, same here. I doesn't stop these people around me. They got the big stuff. Its all around too. Crazy. Big, big explosions too. I guess its because Ohio is only an hour drive to get what you want.

my dog did pretty good.. only a few scared her.. just the ones that shook the ground.. ended up bringing her over to my mother inlaws house because their dog was freaking out and their dog completely changes around mine..

i think my dog was trained to hunt before i got her.. she sat and watched the fireworks

My kitty had a rough night. It's already bad enough that she won't adjust to our new home. The fireworks were bigger and louder than anything I experienced in Denver. (We're in a western 'burb now). Fireworks on north, west, east and south side of the house. Had to hide under a blankie with the kitty - at least she purred for that.

if your dog was passed out last night.. you can probably use half the dosage

I only give her a half dose anyway. Give her the full thing and she can barely walk. It works well for fireworks but only takes the edge off with thunder boomers.
Tonight I'll just bring her in and not mute the TV at all. I just hope it's the end after tonight!!!

My female black lab has always been neurotic with thunderstorms and fireworks.

This year I tried a new Homeopathic product my vet suggested (since I hate "drugging" my pets and animals), and it does work pretty good without knocking her out or risking other problems & risks associated with drug use. Although she is still coherant and "slightly distressed" she is in no way as bad as in the past without knocking her out. That..... and she loves the taste of the drops, lol.

Here's the info:

The product is called: Anxiety TFLN, made by: HomeoPet LLC in Westhampton Beach, NY (1-800-555-4461, although any vet should have it on their shelf).

Dosages:

3 doses daily into mouth, or in water:

1 to 20 lbs = 5 drops (one dose)
20 to 100 lbs = 10 drops (one dose)
Over 100 lbs = 15 drops (one dose)

Ingredients:

Phosphorus, Rhododendron, Borax, Theridon, Chamomilla, 6c&30c in 20% USP alc. in purified water.

Hope its an alternative that you have success with or as a means to investigate something along the lines of another non-drug use product for your pet.

Here in MI, if it leaves the ground it's illegal, but, with Ohio so close, doesn't look like the law works too good.
What scares me, having been shot before, is the idiots shooting off guns. Now, I'm a gun enthusiast my self, but, it don't shoot anywhere but the range. I won't even go outside and try my best to get through to the wife what's fireworks and what's gunshots.

Well it's a little late (on both our parts) for this year, but for the future you may want to check this out 8 Tips for Keeping your Dogs Calm on July 4th | Dog Star Daily

I've conducted dog training classes based on what Dr. Dunbar talks about on this website. A TON of information and all well worth it IMO.

Good Luck!
