Received this response from one of my Congressmen yesterday:

"June 19, 2014

Dear Mrs. ____:

Thank you for contacting me to share your concerns about the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) proposed regulation of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes). I appreciate hearing from you.

I understand your concern about expanding the FDA's regulatory authority over e-cigarettes. The FDA's proposed regulations would restrict the ability of e-cigarette manufacturers to market, sell, and distribute their products. Proponents of these regulations claim that e-cigarettes pose a risk to public health. Opponents believe that the government would be overstepping its authority by regulating an industry whose products have not been sufficiently and scientifically reviewed to determine their safety.

While the FDA plays an important role in ensuring the public health and safety of Americans, this role ought to be limited so that it does not inappropriately infringe upon the rights of the manufacturers and consumers of safe and legal products. You may be certain that I will remember your opposition to the FDA's proposed regulation of electronic cigarettes when the House considers relevant legislation in the future.

Again, thank you for the benefit of your views.

Sincerely,

Now that is someone worth voting for.

Agreed. I don't know, or care, what party this guys aligns himself with (they're both the same anyway), but I plan to vote for him this next election. He's also the only elected official I got a reply from who appears to actually know a little about what he's talking about on this topic, which is a pleasant change.
