...snip... agreed.....

When I turned, I loved the bird pictures everyone was sporting and I wouldn't have wanted a movie theme... It's their day. We post pictures to make them happy, not to amuse ourselves. :)

Just my :2c:

I, in no way, am suggesting they can't select their own themes. Just trying to give them some examples to help! Amusing us is not the point. And don't think I've forgotten "Gilligan's Island" either ;) So I know it can be difficult. However, the goal here is to assist them, not limit them.

OK. If you guys (well, gals) don't think that it's a problem, then cool. Non-issue. Whis just thought I should post part of our discussion and she said something about a list to help, and I said "good idea" and... well... she "drew me into this thread". She does that... ;) That's part of how I got into prevets in the 1st place! Gotta watch out for that. ;)

If it's a non-issue, and people don't have trouble...cool. I think CES's list in a short paragraph in the list would be OK though.

OK. So now that she's gone for the night I can quote her... <evil grin>
but atty, i haven't seen anybody struggling coming up with a theme - we have only one theme pending .....

Yes...ON THE LIST of participants.

So, maybe if it was easier for them to come up with a theme, we'd get more participants. In other words: are some people avoiding participating because they think they "have to come up with a theme <groan>?". So if we had the monthly "default theme" they could participate and not feel that they have to be "theme-ish". (Yeah, it's a word. Really. Uh, OK. Maybe not.)

maybe the best thing to do is work on the initial invitation pm to explain what exactly an avatar party is. if they find us on their own we can play it by ear if they seem to be undecided.
my eyes are closing on me - will check back in the morning

That's what I was thinking, too.

I think we should compose an invitation that we will all use explaining some basic stuff.

Here's what I wrote in my PM, before we had this discussion:

Hi (member name),

Congratulations! You will become an ECF veteran on June 9th!

If you would like to celebrate the occasion, please visit us on the Pre-Vets thread and introduce yourself! We'll be happy to chat with you, hear your story, open a welcome thread for you in the VIP Forum (which will become visible to you after you become vet), or have an avatar party in your honor on the day and at he exact time when your status changes to ECF Veteran.

Here's a link to our PreVet list, if you want to learn more about us and what we are doing.

Please let us know if you are interested. You may PM me or Whiskey, or simply stop by the Pre-Vets thread and say hello!

Congratulations in advance! We're hoping to hear from you soon!

Please, let's edit it together, add all the relevant information, delete what's unnecessary, and just use it as a blueprint for our invitations...

Atty, Whiskey, and CES--like I said, I don't see any problems with the party themes, at least for the time being. However, adding a few words of clarification (as CES suggested) to the top of the list might be very helpful. Besides, we don't need that big notice about not sending any mass invitations anymore, do we? I mean, we all know that already. It may stay there, but in smaller print, perhaps?

Now it's all yours! Good morning!!! :)

and a good morning in here!

tweety's pm is near perfect but we can mull it over today to see if it really can be improved! so far, nothing comes to my mind ......

the warning for no mass pms should, i believe, stay. for 3 months, feb, march, april, those pms were sent out. i would hate for a prevet to come to us and say ''hey, so-and-so got a pm, why didn't i?''

which leaves the very puzzling aspect why we get so few stopping by on their own. i had discussed this with whis and we approached classy to see if it were possible to add ''everybody's welcome'' to the title. unfortunately, it can't be done. my thoughts were that people just didn't think it concerned them or were intimidated. i was going to approach classy to see if a new thread were started with a better title could the old thread be moved into and merged with that one. it was done with 2 offshoots from the snail thread, and then reversed, but i don't know how much is involved ......
also, i strongly believe there should be no pictures posted without text. i always wonder what people think when they stop by and see picture after picture without a word of explanation.
enough, lol - this took forever to type. ;)

it's a difficult balance between too many and not enough. Part of it is that we (or at least I) haven't had time to get out and about into the rest of the forum and meet people.

Wonder if we want to try to let some leaders of the groups that come by to support their friends know that they can and should invite others they know - for example TT's thread and the REO group (i'm sure there are other social threads/groups also) . They support people they know, but may not know that they can encourage people to come by and schedule a celebration.

you just confused me Whis....

I *think* we're inviting people that we've met and letting people who are interested find us, but once they're on the list- whether we found them or they found us- they get a reminder. Is that what everyone else thinks we're doing?

exactly! and i think the reminders should be coming from whoever started that welcome thread!
