I'm heartbroken, but strangely not surprised... I expressed similar sentiments in my PMs last night.

I'll honor my commitments as well. I feel very, very bad for the upcoming prevets. What a shame.

Let's see what Whiskey has to say when she comes back. We still have a hidden forum where we can discuss things...

This saddens me as well....

I'm really hoping/wishing that Tibs and Whiskey will reconsider, but i don't know whether that is a realistic :(

And honestly, I'm discouraged as well as saddened. I love the celebrations, and the connections with people I'd have never met otherwise....but I can't believe we're going through this again.

I have no sense of how or even whether to transition, and how to set this up so it doesn't fall on the shoulders of one or two people. It's too much for one or two people, and anything else is chaotic. Social groups are awkward to work within, posts are not indexed and are easily lost. And i can't imagine PVT transitioning to a full subforum.

i just don't know.

That's the kind of feedback I think we need. Judging by your sig... you'd know how SGs work. I don't. I think we could keep it down to a few set threads... so people would work within threads, not post 100 new ones. Can that be done? Shared responsibility would help avoid trouble when someone went on vacation or quits or whatever.

Not sure it's workable, but need feedback.

This would be a NEW social group... started fresh.

this is what i posted in there

I don't actually have an idea....sorry.

I'm not in favor of a social group, it's kludgey, and because the posts aren't indexed social groups are easily lost. A subforum is more visible, but to me that would be redundant because we already have the new vet's subforum. keeping up with both would be a nightmare.

the structure we currently have works.so i agree with what Fran said on the discussion thread. let's wait a bit and see how things fall out.

i didn't realize that we lost people when the group got opened and closed again.

Well, since we get to have fun discussing everything in 2 or 3 places, I'll reiterate what I said in the other area:

I'm not sure it should be a social group now anyway. Now that I look at it again, I don't like the thread layout either. I wish it was more like a normal thread, but grouped.

So Meh.

The problem we have CES... and it's a challenge IMO... is that the current structure works IF WHISKEY is involved. She has the list thread in BWB and admin rights in BWB area so she can edit the list. If she bows out, where does the list go so that we can edit it constantly? Has to be somewhere where there is admin rights so that you don't get locked out after its two days old.

I'm not sure how tibby is editing/maintaining stuff... maybe she'll elaborate. Bottom line is that I was hoping a SG would allow for some administrative abilities for whatever group of people so they could edit lists and/or posts as the need arises (posts on request, for example).

I hate the look of the social groups, even more now that I viewed one again. However, the admin capability within the group may be necessary. I think it does say that ECF moderators will moderate the group if requested. Since this group is open to all and is for everyone's 1st year.. maybe we should have that too (if we even do an SG).

Otherwise, if we don't do a SG, please explain how the list gets maintained. I think we can do it externally, but not within ECF (other than posting copies in the PVT thread twice a day).

compiling, maintaining and storing the list is the sticking point. it takes several people lots of labor to do it. and that's just too much- even if whiskey and tibs are willing to stay involved it's not fair. and Catt puts in hours finding those eligible.

but, remember when it first started...people showed up, they played, got welcomed....and it wasn't codified, listed, or structured. I suppose it's not possible to go back to a simpler time. but if it were, i'd like to see it get less structured rather than more.

yeah, I'm not so good at staying in the corner, but y'all already knew that

I would have moved the PVT to the group... not destroyed the thread. However, that may not be possible. IDK.

So, forget I even mentioned it. It seems to be more of a distraction than an enabler. OK. So I'll be back in two days and we can all think about it and kick it around. Maybe we don't need admin rights.... maybe if we edit the list every two days then it never locks. However, whomever maintains the list needs to be able to go on vaccation and not worry about it, IMO. That means we should have more than one person able to do that and have multi-access to it.

Maybe we can keep the PVT thread the way it is, but use the social group for maintaining the list! So then we have multiple people authorized as "admins" of the group so they all have access to, and can edit the list. The thread stays where it is, and floats at the top of General.

So...
1) we like the PVT thread the way it is. Fine. Leave it that way. Joker can still link to it.
2) Move the list and discussion out of BWB and into a social group where we can edit stuff
