Dates are checked by at least two people but, when dealing with different time zones and the forum software not recognizing leap year, mistakes can happen.

we better put our thinking caps on - and let's not forget the prevet who hangs out with us deserves a bonus. our most excitement comes from watching the vet title appear! but now we have options.

I've been following here; but haven't chimed in. But I believe this is what started the restrictive rules for the contest in the first place isn't it? Wanting to reward the Prevets who showed up for the turning?

Can we just make it that if you have a 2012 welcome thread in the new vet welcome forum then you are eligible? please? i don't care how it got there

then we can focus on how to do the list so that it isn't the sole responsibility of just a couple of people. People get tired, or are unavailable, it's got to be sustainable for another 6 months.

but we have to remember that this contest has run for 6 months already and, as j0ker said, it's not good to change drastically in midstream. fortunately, the way the rules were written we have some leeway......
2013 can be a whole new ballpark

I'm not really sure what exactly this means but if you are implying that I'm not following my own rules, I'd like to see an example.

My Thought:

Ok, let me make this as clear as I possibly can. I have nothing at all to do with the rules of the contest when it applies to the veterans portion.

Anything beyond these rules are not my responsibility. The whole agreement in the beginning of this contest was that I would assist in constructing the contest and administer the contest. I've left the eligibility requirements and enforcement of eligibility in the hands of those who run this section.

Too explain a little further, I only partially understand the requirements but I find them somewhat confusing. I've found in my experience that a confusing contest (or anything for that matter) will cause people to lose interest quite quickly. So my plan for 2013 is to make things a lot less stringent and in turn make the contest more fun, that is if there is a 2013 Vet contest. If we are unable to come to a smoother process, then I may choose to not be involved next year and either the contest will be abandoned or conducted outside the ECF Official Contest thread. I hope we can make this work, rather than abandon.

So in conclusion, I don't like rules being changed midstream but I feel an exception is warranted in this situation. So come up with the changes you feel are required and then we'll go from there.....

J0ker, I'm not saying you (or anyone) isn't following the rules, I'm saying that the rules are open to interpretation so that causes the problem. Bad wording on my part.

Take last night. Loveridden showed up just after her turning time. She logged in after 12:25 a.m. AND wasn't a vet because she logged in late. Had she logged in at 12:24 she would have become a vet at 12:25 as scheduled. She would have "turned". But she was late, so she didn't turn then. She STAYED logged in, and turned at 1:25 a.m. The people on line with her posted some fireworks at 1:25 a.m. Her status changed above her avatar. She's a vet.

According to the "rules" she was there when she turned, and there were fireworks. So this:

To get into the Big Grand Prize drawing, you must have an Avatar Party and you have to participate and you have to be on the PreVet thread when you turn and when the fireworks go off!!!
If by chance the forum is down (not your internet) when you were suppose to turn during an Avatar Party, you will be Eligible for the Big Grand Prize.

So according to that, she qualifies. According to our current implementation of the rules, she was "late" and missed out, so is dis-qualified because she didn't show up in time.

So I'm not saying, at all, that you and jj are not trying to follow the rules. I am saying that some people have had this situation come up and been disqualified (tentatively) for the GP drawing... and I think they should be included. But it is open to interpretation.

Was Loveridden late, and therefore disqualified? Or, since her status turned in front of her eyes (an hour later) and the crew celebrated with her, did she meet the rule requirement? See?

Anyway the whole thing may be moot. If you are willing to change/clarify the rules, and everyone agrees to the changes, all this may not matter. We do have to review past disqualifications though.

As I said before, early on it was determined any Vet could start the thread and they would be in.

You need a Welcome Thread started before you turn Veteran in the Veteran's Forum. You will use the URL to enter the 2012 Veteran's Contest.
If you don't know a Veteran who will do this for you, visit the PreVet thread and they will set you up for one."

I will make the ANY clearer. The PreVet will be a link to you all.
As for the instructions, they go. Everyone will have to go to you to figure out what to do.

ETA: If you all decide you want something in there, let me know.

Atty, This is one of the first things we are going to Fix...we are striving for SIMPLE....so lets just correct the basic issues here.
This one being first & foremost...what we need to do is all just agree that this one should be Tweeked as Tibs put. we need Tibs to reword our pre-vets list to ammend this, then get a mod to take off those damned ++'s
