This is sounding pretty good to me. I have a couple of questions and please be patient with me as I am new....and blonde. Anyway...
1. Does EACH pre-vet need their very own welcome thread....the one that gets them into the VET's area, or could a thread be used by more than one pre-vet?
2. What exactly constitutes their eligibility to the contest, the welcoming (showing up for fireworks) or actually traversing the thread and reaching the VET area?

I kind of like the idea of the pre-vets coming in early the month and giving us time to prepare for them better, is THIS what gets the eligible or actually going thru the door.

thanks everyone

I like Mark's idea but this one just became number one for me. If PreVet is mentioned on the Contest thread, it's free advertisement.
Letting them post anytime during their month makes it simple as simple can be. Most likely most will do it early in their month and that gives the committee a peek at who is turning that month. Someone could then approach that member, if they don't come to check out the thread, to see if they are interested in celebrating the day.

Joker I knew you were a genius!!!!!!!!! Of course that is just my opinion.

thanks for your input, allazar! it's appreciated!

what you might not yet realize is your ecf vet title will appear at 5:25 am on the dot on your turning day, lol - and seeing the title change with you is really the highlight of our party!
that is why we are exploring the option of postponing a turning - the title will only change if you are signed in to ecf.

as to our location - we'd hoped the general discussion forum would be one of the most visible spots for our thread. not sure if any other location would serve our purpose better.

Unless we mutually agree to postpone the turning!!!! Allazar, if you don't log on at that ungodly hour, your status will not change. If you tell us that you'd rather celebrate at, say, noon, we can have the party and watch you turn at 12:25 PM--provided you log on no earlier than 11:30 AM or so--the forum updates every hour at 25 minutes past the hour! :)

For the monthly contest, all anyone needs is a welcome thread. Each person has to use the URL (web address) to enter the contest and this is invisible until the turning happens. Contest wise it sort of all runs together.

Let's say this is you. Once you are entered, you are good to go for all the drawings for the monthlies and for some of the grand prizes on Jan. 1, 2013.
There is one grand prize designated to a person who had an avatar party and was there "as the fireworks went off."

Hope this helps.

I was thinking that too, Atty. If Joker has an idea of where we are and possible issues we are trying to get fixed, he might have ideas on how better to fix em. :)

Would you guys (gals) knock it off! (Tibby.. you started this!)

Who said j0ker didn't have input? Not me.

I did say, and I'm sticking to it, that IMO we should "get it right" before we just start sending him one person's perspective on [unverified] stuff. J0ker already provided some input and is free to provide as much as he wants. He can watch the whole thing unfold and provide all the input his heart desires.

We, however, are also obligated to proved j0ker with a decent version of what he requested. We do that publicly, and with a review process so we know we got it correct. That's our due diligence to him... and the respectful thing to do.

Like many have already stated, if the process is too complicated, members get frustrated and frustration=not fun :)

To summarize my position:

I'm firmly in the "KISS" camp (my own 1 and 2 suggestions) and in full agreement with Mark, CES, Natalia, Joker, Allazar, Morri (?)--sorry if I missed someone; I'm not sure who else is 100% convinced that this is the way to go... Just got in here and tried to catch up quickly, so please forgive me.

Just wanted to clarify my position for those of you who were waiting for the West Coast crew to chime in...

Not sure where Whiskey, Tibs, Atty and Catt stand at the moment, but since they are the brains and the muscle behind the operations, I'll respect and agree with their final decision.

I've seen a googledocs spreadsheet used recently in coop planning, multiple people were provided write access to it I believe.

Something like that might provide a usable tool, everyone is allowed to read it, several people have edit rights.

I think Tom had suggested something similar--60 pages ago...

I think it's a good idea... but what do I know. :)

We wait Tweety!

If Tom did, I missed it. He is a genius too. :)

I'm still operating under the old rules. Was vape-nerd here during his turning time? Did it happen at the exact time or a scheduled time?

And Tweety, I'm as tired of doing those little marks as you are of seeing them. I should have used smiley's. Me bad.

1) I like blondes... just get some shoulder pads for safety. ;)
2) For your #1 question... The welcome_thread (at least as it stands now) is like a Congratulations Card. You know... go to the local Hallmark store and get a Congratulations Card, write stuff in it, and "give it to them"... only in an ECF thread kind of thing. Like writing them a card. So, yes, it's personal. It is also done ahead of time.

Currently:
We normally start it a day or three ahead of time. Ahead of time means ... ahead of their turning date. At least a couple of days is nice to give us time to fill it up with "whoo hoo" messages and such. Sometimes they are themed, others are just a "congrats".

Now, what everyone has to understand is that for normal users they cannot edit their posts after about 48 hours (I think that's correct). So once I start a post in a person's welcome thread I have the next 48 hours to complete it and still be able to edit and amend the post... usually adding more pictures or finishing off a "work of art" created in my graphics program of choice. Maybe I use a website to create an animated "Happy Vet Day" text or some such and add it to the post.

I know that we could always add another post rather than editing an existing one. And sometimes we have to. I'm just explaining what we do with it now. Also, the pictures we post during the vet's day (particularly with Avatar Parties) are often included in our posts in the welcome thread.

Morri, this explanation is complicated by the fact that you haven't seen a welcome thread yet (since you don't have access to the area). That fact also complicates explaining it to the pre vets. We should probably have a "sample welcome thread for John Doe" that we could link to so everyone can see what one is like.

Question #2 I defer to jj2.

OK that is almost all I needed to know, but here......

If Suzy Jones is in the same room with me....and all of you, we are both turning at approximately the same time..... Can we BOTH use the same thread to get there? Or does there need to be two threads, one for each of us?

yeah. Like jj and Kat said. One reason: They have to "enter the contest" They do that by posting a link to their personal welcome thread in the contest entry area.

I suppose each person could post a link to a common (shared) thread. However, we also mark the threads (currently) for eligibility in the Grand Prize drawing. So if Person A is "on time" and person "B" isn't on time... how would we mark it? OTOH, that requirement is going away (I think...not finalized.. but that seems to be the consensus as of now). It's easier to keep track of everything if they are personal threads.

Also, personally, I like it to be "personalized". Like I explained in my post above. It's like sending a card.

If you and Suzy turned on the same day at the same hour, PreVet would do a double celebration. Members have the option of doing separate avi's or doing a combo for the Avatar part.

Each of you would get your own welcome thread. But you would have to use your own Welcome Thread URL to enter the contest. So basically your URL is yours alone...no sharing allowed. :)

I like it personalized too. That makes it a lot more special. I was trying to imagine how you did the pictures and everything. I have a much better idea now. Not just transferring from one forum to another. Sounds really really special and I would love to see a sample thread if we ever get time for ya'll to do that. For now, this makes me understand somewhat the importance of the personal threads... that is what I was trying to get.

thanks everyone and big big hugs.
