what can I do to help tonight and what time do you want me to be here? :)

not much, morri - xaiver got a brandnew baby, new job and some more deterrents - he does not expect to be online

if you are up, you can keep your eyes open in case he has a change of heart but i think the chances are slim

As a "neutral" party as some poster earlier suggested I would like to toss something into the discussion just for those here to think about... not necessarily to act upon. :D

I already knew (vaguely) about the veteran forums and the avatar parties anecdotally from posting on ECF. However, if I had not gone to the forum where this thread currently resides, I would not really have known where to go or what to do regarding requesting one. I suspect that there are many more ECF members out there like me that stick to just a few forums, and may not be aware of what they need to do to request one!

To be blunt... I am extremely appreciative of the generosity of the community on ECF, the vendors and suppliers for the most part all seem to be wonderful people. However, just like in a state lottery... your chances of winning any individual contest will always be quite low. I did not go to the prevet threads as a result of the contest... in fact...I still have not done anything more than glance at the contest rules!

I really am looking forward to a celebration much more so than a contest giveaway, although I realize that might be rare. Something that you may want to keep in mind, is that if you can advertise the existence of the thread and the parties (without making the avatar and turning parties a requirement for the contest) then that may be an option to have a happy medium. It would remove those people that had avatar parties and were present at their turnings only to be a part of the contest, while allowing the people that desired to do so to have them!

Using the exact times, (I have lurked and followed the conversation here for quite some time) seems to be something that is truly not tenable either for the person becoming a veteran or for each of you. I would suggest that there be somewhere between 2 and 4 time slots each day that the parties could potentially be hosted by a member of PVT, and that it be for any person that turns on that day... and the person (or persons) becoming a vet that wanted a party could choose which time to attend prior to the date of their turning (similar to making an appointment where the person becoming a vet chooses from the available time slots). Since most days have either one or none on the list... there would probably only be one or at most two times anyone would HAVE to be online from the PVT community that day... making the load much easier on all of you as well! ;) This would accomplish the twin goals of increasing the PVT visibility, without twisting the arms of those who do not wish to participate to be on at a certain time that may be difficult for them. :)

Honestly, I would love to have an avatar party and one is currently scheduled, but I am questioning whether or not I wish to be awake at 5:25 AM on the day that I turn after getting home from work around midnight and going back to work immediately after the party! I also question whether or not it serves any purpose for me to ask one of you to wake up at an inconvenient time and be online when few others would be! If the purpose is to foster community, that seems to tear it apart rather than to bring it together!

I realize that I am quite possibly in the minority among the ECF members, but I wanted to offer some relatively neutral points of discussion based upon the discussion I have seen so far.

Please feel free to ignore my :2c: :pop::lol:

Thank you, Allazar, this brings up a lot of good points and more things for the comittee to discuss. I am like you, the avatar party being one of the most important experiences, when it gets to be my turn, but I understand there are those that do not care for it. You have given us a lot to think about and we certainly will not ignore your two cents. :)

thanks for your input, allazar! it's appreciated!

what you might not yet realize is your ecf vet title will appear at 5:25 am on the dot on your turning day, lol - and seeing the title change with you is really the highlight of our party!
that is why we are exploring the option of postponing a turning - the title will only change if you are signed in to ecf.

as to our location - we'd hoped the general discussion forum would be one of the most visible spots for our thread. not sure if any other location would serve our purpose better.

My thoughts on those two items:

1. Turning time - Most people that meet vet requirements AND wanted an avatar party that was not required for a contest would find it no hardship to wait to login until the time of their appointment that day. ;) The delayed turning strategy that atty was talking about but without it being a contest requirement.

2. An email that told both about the veteran celebrations and seperately about the contest that clearly seperated the two and explained that the party was not a requirement for the contest (along with preset times that a party would be had rather than potentially 24 times in a day) might help resolve those. :D

I will step back now and return to lurking. ;)

This is what I would like, please.

First detail the current process: (make it simple, pretend I have no clue)

Second, explain the recommended new process:

My suggestion is to make it as less stringent as possible. For instance, the welcome thread should not be so closely tied to the turning time. Make it very flexible, I would even go as far as to say as long as their welcome is conducted within the month of their turning. This way we don't really have to work so hard at determining time, which requires staff member resources. As regular members you will be able to see the member's turning month and would make it extremely simplified. IMO.

I know I've heard issues with notifying members to participate, although I'm not so keen on us reaching out to these members but I'm also ok with some of you (or others) in doing this. It doesn't need to be a time consuming chore that eventually gets the better of someone, causing them to resent the process because it's such a burden. I don't have a solution for this but I'm sure if we put our heads together, something can be done to make this easier.

I also know is some situations we have members turning Vet outside their one year anniversary due to post requirements (75 post). I think these should also be eligible and not punished because they do not post more. So maybe allow them to have their avatar party the month they change because of their post count.

Forgive me if I have misconceptions and the above do not apply but these are some of the things I feel will simplify the process. Like many have already stated, if the process is too complicated, members get frustrated and frustration=not fun :)

If I could have one person send me a "Cliff Note" version :D so that I might understand this better, it would be much appreciated! Once I can wrap my head around all the details, I'm sure we can make this contest as successful as we all want. Patience and understanding will take us far in this endeavor, so hang in there, offer ideas and don't take offense if your ideas aren't accepted.

And let me say this....don't contact me privately about matters revolving around this planning, I won't reply. If you can't post it publicly I don't want to hear it. <---not to imply this has happened.

We haven't gotten back to where the list will be stashed yet. I think a public "Pre-vet Celebration Crew" group that has open enrollment will let anyone join in the fun and provide a place for discussion also (similar to this thread). I don't want it to distract from the main thread tho. So IDK. Still thinking.

Thanks for the input Allazar!

FYI - your turning time can be delayed to a better time for you (and us in this case). Pick a time. Just don't log in on "your day" between 5:24 a.m and X:XX time (X:XX depends on what time you select)

atty, i'm sure whis will agree - this can wait until after we decide on any rule amendments. i have no idea if i can dig out the list today. i might ask whis to post it first thing tomorrow, or i can copy and paste her list in black and white only.

j0ker, i'd gladly put a pm together for you as to where things are right now and where we're hoping to go. as long as it's ok with my fellow team members

ps i would mark the pm ''cliff notes'' and also post it here - or just post it here if that suits you better. it'll be a while - supper got to come first;)

Yeah tibby. It may not have been obvious, but I was replying to Allazar comment about visibility and "advertising" PVT's existence.... without quoting the whole thing. The social group works like this thread does now... and increases visibility. The list also goes into that group and will be part of the list discussion LATER. Of course we are working on the rule amendments now.

We're not ready to publish cliff-notes yet. But once we are... I'd love for you to do it. Especially the "where we are now" part. Or at least come up with a draft. The cliff notes should be agreed upon here...along with jj's input...before they are sent to j0ker.

but joker might have some good ideas as to where we are/should go

bbl after supper

And he can still do that. But we don't want to ensnare him in a constant back and forth, preliminary, constantly changing thing. We get our poop together 1st, then give it to him. Then go through any necessary revisions IMO.

I like Mark's idea but this one just became number one for me. If PreVet is mentioned on the Contest thread, it's free advertisement.
Letting them post anytime during their month makes it simple as simple can be. Most likely most will do it early in their month and that gives the committee a peek at who is turning that month. Someone could then approach that member, if they don't come to check out the thread, to see if they are interested in celebrating the day.

Joker I knew you were a genius!!!!!!!!! Of course that is just my opinion.

PMs notifying PreVets that they are approaching veteran status will not be sent out. Members must make it to the PreVet thread on their own, or with the help of a friend.:)

Please read the First Post in the PreVet thread for additional information.

Welcome to the ECF Pre-Vet thread!

And, as an added bonus, celebrating your special day with us entitles you to an entry in the Veteran 2012 Contest!

You can find further information here:http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/contests/256629-veteran-2012-contest.html

Times for our turnings are all Eastern and looked up by an ECF Moderator.
Dates are checked by at least two people but, when dealing with different time zones and the forum software not recognizing leap year, mistakes can happen. ;)

If you don't see yourself listed, or don't see a theme listed for your day and you want one, let us know.
Your presence on the PreVet thread is required if you requested an Avatar Party. Please, join us in advance of your turning time and enjoy the celebration
