Whis, Kat, Tibs... like tibby sort of said... a different social group (well, she said sub-forum. Better, but IDK if we can swing that. Worth asking I guess.) Editing assigned similar to the suggestion above (I'm open as to "who"). Suggested that the moderators moderate the group to keep it on the up-and-up and avoid any "who is the group manager" stuff. It is noted in the description of social groups that the mods will moderate them if requested. Shouldn't be a big deal (I HOPE).
It would be an open group, everyone can join. Thus, all those that want to be known as Pre-Vet Celebrators can be "in the club"
The existing "Pre Vet Discussion" group is NOT the same thing.
The list would be stashed in this new PreVeteran group. Only editable by the assigned people. I don't know the forum capabilities for social groups though.

Date mistakes around midnight happen easily. Other mistakes happen too. What we don't want is for one person's changes to stomp on another person's changes.
Of our group, only whiskey has access to edit that thread (although others on ECF may also... moderators, admins, BWB people maybe, IDK). So Tibby must be making a copy and editing it, and whiskey saving the changes to the thread. Some how, I don't know how, it got stomped on.
Once it is in a place where we have common access, we'll still have a multi-access issue. However, it should be easier. I'd rather keep it on ECF and have a single person maintain the list like we've been doing for the last 6 months. Exceptions where someone else (with access) is editing the thread would be made if it needed to change and the maintainer was unavailable for some reason.
It's worked for the last year (more actually) without much problem. Now, temporarily, it's in BWB's area due to access rights/editing needs.
All of a sudden today we had an issue. Not sure why yet, but the situation with it being in BWB is temporary. And like whiskey said, we should resolve this, and find a long term solution.
All of this does not mean that I'm against a "cloud-based" solution...like google docs. That may be the way to go. I just thought that keeping it within ECF is a good idea, since the "world" does not need to see it... only ECF people.

atty, social groups have limited forum capabilities .... they would be good to plan, deposit names of prevets, sort of like what we do here. google docs would be my choice to park the list and link to.
PMs notifying PreVets that they are approaching veteran status will not be sent out. Members must make it to the PreVet thread on their own, or with the help of a friend.

The list is, and always has been, a post in a thread. Easy.
The whole PVT thing is specific to ECF. So I don't see why it has to be on the cloud. Or even how that would make it any easier. However, I'm open. Just seems excessive to me. Besides... I don't have a google account or tools, and don't want it installed on my system if I can avoid it. Personal preference. I'm still open to the idea if the group thinks it is easier for some reason.

the reason being the links we provide for people in our sigs etc
it gets lost even if posted several times a day in pvt. it could be run in both places and coordinated. catt has access, so do i and i'm sure there a few more
I'm not sure I understood that. It should be in ONE place. One or the other. Or it's a nightmare. However, I'd be open to storing a backup copy in a 2nd place for safe keeping. That would be a one-direction process. Always copy from source to backup. All editing goes on at the one single source place (whatever that is).
IDK what's required to use google docs, Tibby. It may have some revision control capabilities. I know it does multi-user (simultaneous even) editing. Lemme go lookie......BBL.
true, atty - and that was not possible with our system. whis did not have the time to do all of the editing so i tried to help. i could not do it on the sticky - no mod am i - so i did it here ......

I know... but that's due to this temporary "situation" we're in the middle of. When jj had it as a thread in her other group and just edited it... it worked.
The fact that things "reverted" means an old copy got stored on top of changes. Somehow.
By the way. FYI - "Google Docs" is changing to "Google Drive".
Outside of ECF may create an ownership issue. So let's say you "own" the google drive. You get ticked and leave. How do we get the doc? IDK but there's probably a solution. I haven't dug into it yet.

whoever has access to one document will keep it - catt is very familiar with it. that is how he shares the spreadsheets with us.

My next question is to TomCatt then. Tom, hypothetically, if you decide to leave ECF in a snit and never come back... what happens to your spreadsheet? Let's say you're mad and delete it from your drive. Are all of us (theoretical collaborators) suddenly without a copy of it? Or does the system keep a (maybe read-only) backup in reserve for those that were working on it? How does all that work?
BTW... no judgement on google docs/drive. I can see how if one person "owns" a file, they can delete it. It's just that this list isn't really owned by a single person...it's totally a collaborative on going revised group thing.

Don't know a whole lot about Google Docs/Drive; in fact it looks like you're becoming the expert Atty .
If it's decided to use Google; a backup could be kept on a separate users account. Edit main Doc, copy and paste to the backup Doc.
