Whis, Kat, Tibs... like tibby sort of said... a different social group (well, she said sub-forum. Better, but IDK if we can swing that. Worth asking I guess.) Editing assigned similar to the suggestion above (I'm open as to "who"). Suggested that the moderators moderate the group to keep it on the up-and-up and avoid any "who is the group manager" stuff. It is noted in the description of social groups that the mods will moderate them if requested. Shouldn't be a big deal (I HOPE).

It would be an open group, everyone can join. Thus, all those that want to be known as Pre-Vet Celebrators can be "in the club"

The existing "Pre Vet Discussion" group is NOT the same thing.

The list would be stashed in this new PreVeteran group. Only editable by the assigned people. I don't know the forum capabilities for social groups though.

Well I almost got out of here.

All social groups that are created now will be like the group Whiskey had me start and I mean it will be like that forever. Posts are limited to 1000 characters.

Anyone posted an update on your discussion on the contest? I don't have the inclination to back read.
I'm trying to keep my input on this on low.
Just keep in mind, when next year comes up, I will be more involved. In fact once we (you) get what you want for this one, I will start a thread in the Library Annex to get this started. And yes, like Whiskey, I have changed my mind but only about the contest. Get through the changes first before this proceeds and even then we will have plenty of time to discuss the how-to of PreVets.
I chose the place so it wouldn't get buried in day to day discussions and I have no need to keep up on what is going on in here.
Please keep your voices down to a whisper because, after all, you'll be in a library.

Ok, let me make this as clear as I possibly can. I have nothing at all to do with the rules of the contest when it applies to the veterans portion. (...)

The whole agreement in the beginning of this contest was that I would assist in constructing the contest and administer the contest. I've left the eligibility requirements and enforcement of eligibility in the hands of those who run this section.
(...)

Too explain a little further, I only partially understand the requirements but I find them somewhat confusing. I've found in my experience that a confusing contest (or anything for that matter) will cause people to lose interest quite quickly. So my plan for 2013 is to make things a lot less stringent and in turn make the contest more fun, that is if there is a 2013 Vet contest. If we are unable to come to a smoother process, then I may choose to not be involved next year and either the contest will be abandoned or conducted outside the ECF Official Contest thread. I hope we can make this work, rather than abandon.

So in conclusion, I don't like rules being changed midstream but I feel an exception is warranted in this situation. So come up with the changes you feel are required and then we'll go from there.....

Just a reminder. :)

My suggestion is to make it as less stringent as possible. For instance, the welcome thread should not be so closely tied to the turning time. Make it very flexible, I would even go as far as to say as long as their welcome is conducted within the month of their turning. This way we don't really have to work so hard at determining time, which requires staff member resources. As regular members you will be able to see the member's turning month and would make it extremely simplified. IMO.

I know I've heard issues with notifying members to participate, although I'm not so keen on us reaching out to these members but I'm also ok with some of you (or others) in doing this. It doesn't need to be a time consuming chore that eventually gets the better of someone, causing them to resent the process because it's such a burden. I don't have a solution for this but I'm sure if we put our heads together, something can be done to make this easier.

I also know is some situations we have members turning Vet outside their one year anniversary due to post requirements (75 post). I think these should also be eligible and not punished because they do not post more. So maybe allow them to have their avatar party the month they change because of their post count.

Forgive me if I have misconceptions and the above do not apply but these are some of the things I feel will simplify the process. Like many have already stated, if the process is too complicated, members get frustrated and frustration=not fun :) (...)

Reminders to those who run this section. :)

I agree with J0ker (see bold) and we should incorporate his suggestions into the new rules. We had to turn the vets away before--I still remember several instances when a new vet showed up in PVT exclaming happily that he had just noticed that he's a vet and we had to tell him that he wasn't eligible for any contests because he was late--sometimes only a few days late... That has to change. People who are not contacted by PVT and discover that they turned and come to us should be welcomed, not turned away.

Welcome threads (and monthly contest eligibility) should be available to any vet who turns in 2012 and comes to us on his/her own or is introduced to us by a sponsoring vet.

The list should be, ideally, kept here, on ECF, and be editable by assigned PVT members (at the very least, Whiskey, Tibs, Atty, Natalia, Catt, CES and, of course, Classy). I like the social group idea--maybe invitation only--with one no-chitchat thread dedicated solely to the list. But I leave this to the experts and to those of you who have experience with the list.

I know... but that's due to this temporary "situation" we're in the middle of. When jj had it as a thread in her other group and just edited it... it worked.

The fact that things "reverted" means an old copy got stored on top of changes. Somehow.

I am almost 100% positive that that's what happened here. I checked the past posts and old lists, and it's clear to me that we somehow got the old, unupdated list come to the forefront after Tibs had merged the lists...

And one more thing--MrsCasey PMed me and said she was looking forward to her turning tonight. I hope Nat and Morri will be able to attend. :)

Oh, her thread needs a few more posts. Thank you!

Ok...If you had read Back, you would have seen we tabled talk about the 2013 contest, Right now we have been talking about the list location..J0ker told us we have plenty of time to talk & come up with tweeks on THIS contest. You want a summary of where we are right now in discussions you'll have to take the time to read back.I would also suggest you also remember this is a PRE_VET workshop, you can make all the contest suggestions you want , but we will decide what to present to J0ker as a group that has agreed TOGETHER on things, and I also think it would be smart (like you said above), to keep your input on things low. Your post IMO came off very bold. Thanks for your suggestions.

Good morning fellow masochists. Hope today finds you well.

Let's see. List stomping semi-confimed. No biggie. No panic either. It's a common occurrence with things like this and why we need to finalize a solution.

Let's get 2012 strait before we go into 2013. Thinking ahead is admirable, but distracting at this stage.

Tibby, did you get the revisions incorporated? The longer this thread gets, the harder it is to track the changes.......
Looking for either the NOW or the NOW + NEW. I'd suggest NOW since NEW seems to be still very open.

JJ2, I'd like for you to confirm the "What we're doing NOW" part of this publication. Most of us "bowed out" of the contest stuff, so we need confirmation that what we publish is correct. Wait for us to hash it out a bit...

still need a thread starter for july. we have an extended vacation coming between 6-25 and 7-08. let's use that time to finish up in here

@ atty - i rethought your kiss principle for avi postponement and now agree. it's highly unlikely that anyone interested in ecf would be prepared to stay logged off any longer than necessary. kiss would eliminate complicated regulations and restrictions.

so, once again - 1. welcome thread > unchanged except for all going through pvt = entry, monthly drawing
2. avi party > entry, monthly drawing

new rule : ANYBODY from 1, and 2. above who attends the turning - exact time or postponed - gains the additional entry for drawing of grand prize

Birmingham, Al
Tibs, that works for me.

i'd like to define attending the turning fairly broadly... as long as they get there while the party is still going on, which is usually 10-15 minutes after the scheduled change...

(waiting patiently for typing of brainstorm)

who's going on vacay? lucky!! I'll be gone july 9-13, and july 23- aug 10, but it's all work

I encourage everyone to have brainstorms Tibby. Watch out for lightning! Looking forward to the Cliff Notes.

I'm still in the "All Monthly Entries get a chance at grand prize" camp....no conditions. But...that's just my one vote. I understand trying to provide an incentive to have/attend the avatar party.

Please remember folks... we're our own little "Internet Addiction Group" too. lol. Those of us discussing this are here all the time. It doesn't work that way for everyone. It may be common for some people to check on ECF twice a week. They're "just not that into it" kind of thing. I'd rather keep the whole thing as open as possible.

If someone requests an Avatar Party...cool! They have time and we hope they show up (rather than get arm-twisted into it.) It would be polite of them to show up at their own party after all. If we get 1/3 of all type of participants actually attending Avatar Parties, I'd be surprised.

Again. This is for the pre-vets, not us. We are sure having fun celebrating with them and throwing a "surprise party" where they can see their theme pics as they "turn" vet. But we do it for them. Some people can't schedule it or don't care.

My two cents.

I edited my last post above.

Look. There's basically two ways to do it. Asynchronously, and interactively.

Welcome threads (themed or not) are asynchronous. It's a "card in the mail" and they get to it when they get to it.

Avatar Parties are essentially interactive (at least within a day's time). They occur 24 hours (ish) before their earliest_possible_turning_date_time, many of us change our avatars, and we watch their status change and have fireworks... assuming they show up. This is, by necessity, a timed event since we have to coordinate avatar changes and picture postings. It's the most fun for us, and them. But they have to be available. The timing we can "kind of fudge" (delay) with their cooperation.

I'm not fond of having the contest Grand Prize tied to the person's availability a year after they joined. They may have signed up to ECF on a Sunday. However, this year it's a Monday, or something.

I think it was CES that said the Avatar Parties should function on their own merits. I agree.
