Hi y'all!

Working here, but trying to catch up. Still reading today's entries. Before I vote, could I bring this to everyone's attention? I sort feel strongly about this--the spirit more than the letter...

K.I.S.S.

Anyway, you probably know where I stand. I understand Tibs' concerns, but I think we could modify the whole concept of avatar parties; they can be custom made for each vet. They can be as elaborate as they are now (avatars, themes, pictures) or as simple as a small gathering at the time of the turning (preset or chosen be the vet) to chat a bit, watch the actual turning, launch some fireworks. Honestly, it could be very nice. It used to be like that a long time ago. We could explain to the new people how much fun it is to watch that title appear--without hanging that porkchop around our collective necks, to borrow Natalia's apt analogy.... :) I would much rather have a conversation with the new person, no strings attached, than go through hundreds of pictures that, nice as they may be, become a little monotone, after a while.

BRB with my vote.

Well, if the G.P. isn't tied to an Avatar Party... we can do them any way we want IMO. And revise it at will...whatever works best for everyone. Very flexible. The debate, of course, will be what-to-do. However, we can work that out ourselves over time since it would no longer be a part of the "what we want to do now" part for joker (other than removing the requirement),

I agree. Let's not change more than is absolutely necessary--for the remainder of the year. Next year, if there is a contest, we can start from scratch based on our experience this year.

how it works now....

1. welcome thread - entitles the prevet to an entry in the monthly contests. to get a thread, all that is needed is to ask for one or have an ecf vet start it in the new vets forum prior to turning. (In practice it has always come through PVT. )

2. avatar party- must request and be present on the PVT thread at the exact time that they joined, any deviations from the original timing results in disqualification from the entry for the grand prize.

Options for what we want

1. welcome thread - entitles the prevet to an entry in the monthly contests. Eligible threads will be in the new vets forum prior to turning. The welcome thread request comes through PVT, in the form of 1 post minimum in PVT
a. choose between 'prior to' turning or 'within 24 hours of' turning
b. choose can or cannot be self-started

2. Options for Avatar parties:

A. Not required for entry into prize drawing

B. Required for entry into prize drawing, time can be scheduled without penalty
a. choose between must be present on the PVT thread at the time of turning, or must be present within 15 minutes of time of turning
b. choose between exceptions can be made and exceptions cannot be made if circumstances warrant I.e. military service, illness, emergency, internet problems

C. Anybody with either a welcome thread or avi party who is present at the fireworks is eligible for the grand prize drawing
this includes flexible timing under the kiss principle
a. choose between must be present on the PVT thread at the time of turning, or must be present within 15 minutes of time of turning
b. choose between exceptions can be made and exceptions cannot be made if circumstances warrant I.e. military service, illness, emergency, internet problems

Please make changes in and re-post the whole thing as you make edits.....

I've saved this wording, but please mark the location of this post....I've also read back through what got posted as i typed this up...agreed, no formal "poll". I still like the least restrictive option- because I'm lazy, though Tibs could well be right. Good points Catt. Atty I  you too)
