I agree with Ces, we are not going to make everyone happy, we deal with those things on a case by case basis...lets simplify things and I think we are mostly on the same page here, we are spending way to much time OVER thinking things at this point, I think if we go with whats on the table now, that if things need a little more tweeking, that J0ker will be fine with another discussion period like this one if needed. We have some avi party's coming up soon and I think we should trial run these changes and see what happens.

the welcome thread is a single entry..and is used for each drawing the new vet is eligible for. i did change the wording to clarify that being at the turning gives eligibility for an entry into a bonus drawing.

I see it as a successive series of draws for the thread. for the bonus contest, if the number generator pulls up an entry without a ++ or then it's run again until a thread with the appropriate markings comes up.

Bonus drawing puts us right back to square one if you think about it.

Basically, you added a free G.P. type drawing to the existing monthly eligibility. But the "Other" G.P. drawing is like (or similar) to what we have today. With the same/similar issues. So why bother?

And if it is different, then why have 2 drawings?

I don't understand. I'm open to all ideas, but that doesn't mean I got it through my thick skull yet.

Since you all look like you are coming to some decisions, and since the contest is for the ECF membership, it would be nice, since it is for the membership, to give them a voice in it.
From the beginning “and yes, I’m guilty here” this has been used for what was good for the PreVet thread. Not for the PreVets, for what we’ve thought was good for them…for what we thought would make them come to PreVet so we could made them happy.
For our own personally causes, again because we thought we knew what was best for the membership, it’s been obvious how easy it can be used to try to control others behavior. Obvious how it can be used to lash out, not just in this thread, but elsewhere on the forum. It has caused harsh words and tempers to flair. There has been boycotts and people involved in the running of it leave or threaten to leave. It has caused worry and hurt.

Basically we are all guilty of trying to force a square peg into a round hole then getting upset when it can‘t be done.

Please take time to consider CES’ idea of a poll and taking your ideas and adding jOker’s (KISS) and let the membership, the people that this is all about, have a voice in the outcome.
Let it run for a bit to give you an idea of what the upcoming Veteran’s want.

Atty, the major change is that we've gotten rid of the avi party requirement for the grand contest--everybody with a welcome thread is eligible! That's a huge difference from what we have now.

We're adding a snall carrot for those who come to play with us--the bonus drawing!!!!

What we want
1. welcome thread - entitles the prevet an entry in the monthly contests and the year-end grand prize drawing. eligible threads will be started in the new vets forum prior to turning. The welcome thread request comes through pvt, in the form of 1 post minimum in pvt. Threads must be started prior to turning and cannot be self-started

2. Avatar parties: the welcome threads of those who schedule avatar parties in advance and attend them are eligible for entry into a bonus drawing at the end of the year. the party can be rescheduled from the forum default time without penalty. However, the new vet must be present at the time of their turning to be eligible for the bonus drawing.
(in practice this means that threads marked –- are eligible for the gp drawing, only ++ thread are eligible for the bonus drawing)

JJ, while i appreciate the thought, i dread the nightmare it would cause. people don't generally decide the parameters of contests or eligibility requirements for the ones they want to enter - or every contest would be a random draw with as many entries as anyone has time to make.

I do appreciate the comments of everyone who took the time to post in this thread...and i think that we are incorporating the inclusiveness that was suggested. I also think we're trying to preserve both the contest and the PVT thread...and be as fair as possible.

A poll out in the general forum about the things we are talking about here...no way JJ2...I decline your suggestion, thanks anyways...if this happens , I won't just threaten to leave I will make that a promise and ask admin to close that thread...stop stirring the pot...

Good morning jj. I can only speak for myself, but J0ker clearly gave "those who run this section" the right to make decisions. We are the ones who have to be able to live with the rules--others come and go.

And I thought you didn't want to bring up the past events anymore? This really doesn't help anybody!

I think that we have reached a decision and are ready to present it to J0ker--as he suggested we do.

to alleviate the job of markings we can post in the welcome thread ''thanks for letting us watch your turning''
