I'm liking the BONUS option more and more. It provides incentive while not disqualifying people completely. I think that the bonus entry should be tied to a themed avatar party... not necessarily requiring a presence at the "turning" or a very open presence.

I think we're too wrapped up in turning time. Although, it IS my favorite part...to be there with them and watch them turn and to guide them to the welcome thread "surprise pics". I just doesn't work out for everyone.

currently welcome threads do NOT qualify for the GP drawing.

the idea of a bonus drawing is a good one. If i understand it, all eligible welcome threads would qualify for the GP drawing and there would be an additional bonus drawing for those that attended pre-planed avi parties..(sort of an A and B compromise) . If we end up going for this - and it may be the way to break the tie, then we will need j0ker's agreement to add an additional bonus drawing.

(did y'all read my summary above of the consensus so far?)

That should & will be no problem IMO

Yeah, but quit quoting me when I spell "enforce" wrong Tibby! ;)

OK point taken. I know you guys want incentive. What we're likely to get is a bunch of "welcome thread only ... not even themed" and a few of those showing up at the turning time. So mostly a bunch of "congrats" posts. So I'd rather not have to twist their arm with a G.P. carrot just to have to say "congrats" in real time when I already said it in the thread.

If they want a themed celebration and can make the turning, all planned ahead of time because they WANTED to... I love that. That's fun.

But:
x:24 "Hi I;m here"
(fireworks)
x:26 "Oh gee...thanks, I'll go enter the contest now. I get entry into G.P. too, right? Bye"

meh. No theme. Not pre-planned. Already had all our welcome's in the welcome thread. Just doing it for the contest. Didn't care.

i get the point, atty - but looking back at ever1ast's turning i thought it was still fun .......

I thought it would be neat... And solve our problem with "bribing them to play with us," which has been bothering me. People can come, pick a theme for a thread or not, or their avatar party, and everybody is included, which is nice. especailly for those who have busy RW schedules...

But we also provide a bit of a carrot to those who would like to be considered for that extra drawing--and we don't have to make any compromises--be there or you don't qualify! Simple as pie. They have to be on time--which makes it really easy for us.

Ok....

rather than asking anyone to update their choices on the form..a simple yes or no from everyone on Kat's option

What we want.... all eligible welcome threads qualify for monthly and GP drawing. those who plan and attend avi parties will be eligible for special year end bonus drawing.

I vote Yes.

In his case it sure was Tibby. He wanted to be there and enjoyed it. My example was not him, but someone that was just ..."there". Just to get G.P. qualification.

For the record CES... my selection wording could be changed to the standard "Not required".... just to clarify.

eh..I'm tired of editing that post...it's clear as it is :)

Yes, it was, So was Xaiver's triple.

If we offer a bonus drawing, those hesitant have a chance to change their mind and decide to go for it, even if they only requested a welcome thread. Win win in my opinion. Keeps people interested, keeps them coming back to the thread, allows us to get to know them... it's all open and inviting--no commitments needed...

and we could always say ''pick a theme for your turning'' even if you won't be with us .....

but at times we do get too much of a good thing ...... looking at pic after pic without context is no joy. maybe i'd feel differently if i had a better connection, idk

Tibs, once we get the new rules in place, we'll revisit the picture-posting rules. This is a promise. We've had some good ideas and I hope they'll eventually be enforced. I'm with you, doll.... :)

but with flexibility option still included if necessary? i don't want to feel that obligated anymore. it might work for most but still .....

so this is what i think we're voting yes or no on.

(or, to meet the 10 char limit, heck yes Kat, that's a great idea!)

this incorporates the consensus so far.....

what we want
1. welcome thread - entitles the prevet an entry in the monthly contests and the year-end grand prize drawing. Eligible threads will be started in the new vets forum prior to turning. The welcome thread request comes through PVT, in the form of 1 post minimum in PVT. Threads must be started prior to turning and cannot be self-started

2. Avatar parties: the welcome threads of those who schedule avatar parties in advance and attend them are eligible for entry into a bonus drawing at the end of the year. The party can be rescheduled from the forum default time without penalty. However, the new vet MUST be present at the time of their turning to be eligible for the bonus drawing.
(in practice this means that threads marked –- are eligible for the GP drawing, only ++ thread are eligible for the bonus drawing)
