I'd like it to be as easy as possible. We've already noted that they should check the list and let us know if they "go missing" or are missed or whatever.

I'm in favor of procedures to edit the list... as long as they are not cumbersome. If you have to post every change twice (once in the list, once in the workshop), it's extra work IMO. The list could still get mangled anyway.

Also, it's the pre-vet's responsibility to double check us as well, IMO. We publish the list regularly.

I'd like to maintain a "twice a day publication" rule. I think that's cool.

:2c:

If you don't see yourself listed, or don't see a theme listed for your day and you want one, let us know.
Your presence on the PreVet thread is required if you requested an Avatar Party. Please, join us in advance of your turning time and enjoy the celebration
^^^ this is from the list posted in PVT

Just a little update to settle some questions. The sandbox was ok'd for temporary use through PM to tibs, temporary being the key word there. We (you and I) want something more permanent, since we plan to have this contest become a permanent fixture on the forum.

So this is what I'm working on now. Our own private subforum with access granted to each member designated as part of the team. The only thing we haven't worked out yet, is the permissions and can we do it the way we need it, so the team members can edit as needed. I'm pretty sure this can be done but we aren't completely sure yet. If this can't be done like we want, at the least we will have our own private forum.

I've requested a list of team members from Atty and you may be hearing from me soon to test the new subforum. Once the new subforum is setup, I would think anything regarding PVT to be moved to the new subforum. This was mentioned by Atty as being a neutral location and I tend to agree. There is no ill feeling towards BWB, as they have been very generous in allowing us to use their subforum but a neutral location would be better suited.

Additional Question: Should such a sub-forum be private or public? We'd need to control access to the list (read-only?)...and only allow a few to edit it using whatever procedures.

We do get into discussions (like in this thread). However, as a general rule I don't mind it being public. The only issue with privacy is if we have questions about something and want to use real-world examples and say "so-and-so did such-and-such and that brings up blah blah" and those types of discussions may best be private to protect the example and make people not feel singled out. Did that make sense?

Generally, I'm in favor of public read-only, unless the admin crew feels they want to hide it because it's a "utility sub-forum" and clutters up their new design.

Thoughts?

just maybe have a couple other members to share the work load of doing it, as Tibs suggested
that's part of it...the edit-rights members. The other part is "How do we make sure that multiple people with edit access don't clobber each others changes?" The procedures would include concurrency controls.

Any more than 1 person (and we want more than 1) needs some shared understanding of concurrency control. What is it that you and Tib's do now?

Only Tibs edits? Only you copy to BWB? How does it work?

She keeps a list & I keep a list, any new additions or changes she does, I copy to the original link list and delete the old, If I do any changes she copies mine, which means there is always 2 lists in case something happens..we work in sinc

What does "again" mean? I didn't make it hard before. I did what IS hard... resolving multiple issues (hopefully amicably).

Any multi-user access to a common file has to have some agreed upon procedures. And as long as we're waiting, I thought we'd discuss it... particularly since we aren't using an external solution with multi-edit features and since we've already had one occasion of the list changing (getting stomped on?).

I'm taking a break.

I'll let you guys work it out for a bit.......

thanks, whis! ...... atty - we both keep up with additions and make changes as needed. whis is the only one who can edit in bwb though. that requires a switch-out and that is dangerous ......
my main job is to make sure nothing goes wrong with those midnight turnings and i have help there from nat who doublechecks those and all the others for me as to west coast dates.

Thanks j0ker, a separate subforum would be an ideal solution! fingers crossed :)

the only drawback to having it be private is that people couldn't carry a link to the final list in their signatures, and we'd have to rely on the daily posting of the list in the PVT thread.

In terms of Atty's questions, one possibility is to have a rotating schedule for a designated editor for the finalized list, Only the person "on duty" would edit (all others would have to wait for the editor on duty to update) . Discussions could go on in other threads as needed.
