Thank you! :)

The fee is 1 millon dollars if you want to use it for your superbowl ad next year. :p

Hopefully the fee is free for us that will now use this word as much as possible. Kinda like the local radio station that plays your favorite song so many times you finally tire of it. Hopefully no one will tire of the word ELA and only be ELAted at the sound of the name. ;)

Absolutely correct on Silver. In no way should silver be used in a mechanical mod. Four reasons:

1. It is a very high rate of tarnish/oxidization/corrosion even faster then raw brass (which unplated brass should never be used either as it exhibits many of the same pitfalls as silver). Any gains seen with its high conductivity are immediately lost as it immediately starts oxidizing/tarnishing after a cleaning.

2. Silver is extremely soft at approximately 250-300 knoop hardness rating (Rhodium has an 800 knoop hardness rating). Even with a thicker plating (which is relative when plating metals, they are ALL extremely thin, often .0001 or less thick). Silver will wear through to bare metal in a much shorter time and even quicker as you constantly have to clean it to keep the contacts corrosion free.

3. Low Melting point and extremely susceptible to electrical arcing due to its low melting point (electrical arcing is a big factor in DC circuits as electrical arcing causes pitting and oxidizations (usually seen as little black specs in the plating) and degrades the electrical connection

4. Susecptible to many cleaning chemicals and readily dissolves in acids.

SilverRhodium
Hardness Rating300800
Oxidization/Corrosion/Tarnish RateExtremely HighNon existent. Will never corrode/oxidize/tarnish
Melting Point1763F3567F
Electrical Arcing SusceptibilityHighExtremly Low (electrical arcs can reach momentary temps of 10,000+F)
Chemical/Acid ResistanceLowImpervious to almost all known chemicals and acids (its why they couldn't save my rhodium parts after poor plating, theres no way to strip it)
Cost Per ounce: Silver $35.00 per ounce. Rhodium $1400.00 per Ounce

Someone posted your comment on facebook. Poldiac customers have been complaining about misfires. Some have been giving advice to stick the pins in a bowl of water with baking soda lined with aluminium foil. I always thought baking soda was an abrasive. I guess soaking isn't like rubbing it with baking soda? The website where they were getting the poldiacs has been closed due to maintenance for a few days.

David have I mentioned that I was glad you are in the united states, and I truly will feel proud to finally add one of your mods to my collection! (yes it may be a small collection but still a collection nonetheless)

Just wanted to say thank you for being a part of the vaping community, a trustworthy part that is in my book! :)

Sure, you can use baking soda to clean off the tarnish by soaking it, but like all cleaning methods, be they chemical or abrasive, you are still removing a very thin layer each time you clean it. Remember tarnish is formed from a chemical transformation of the metal surface layer. Each time you clean it off, be it via chemical or abrasive methods, you are removing material. After cleaning, the newly exposed silver will again tarnish and the whole process repeats. This isn't a problem (cleaning it) on thick jewelry or silverware, but on plating, which even the thickest of applications are extremely thin relatively speaking, it won't last long. Silver has some great properties and uses, but unfortunately, using it as a plating in a mod just isn't viable.

Besides, who wants to have to soak and clean their parts every other day? Silver just isn't viable for use as a plating in our mods.

After not only reading what you said and then hearing what others were saying already confirming the problem. Silver is not for me! I have to fully agree it doesn't belong in our mods.

Hello guys, I am new here and interested in the PRECISE ELA. Any chance you will make these mods in brass and use the polished stainless accent instead? I am itching to order one, but may be you can work something out. I have a Atmomixani "69" mod and I love everything about it except I am just tired of looking at polished all day. I'd like something different like polished brass or brushed brass.

Thanks

Good morning sway-aimgain,

I've kicked around maybe doing some of the main bodies in brass in the future, but not the top caps. We've learned from experience that Brass isn't suitable for top caps. Fine atomizer threads and soft brass don't mix, when we used to make brass caps we'd see the top cap atomizer threads wear out in anywhere from 2-6 months. But with a brass main body and stainless caps, that would still be an awesome looking two tone effect. We won't be doing it anywhere in the very near future, but maybe later in the year.

Just finished reading the ENTIRE 70 page thread, I'm even more excited then b4 to order mine. Hybid RBA, DNA 20, SAY WHAT??!! Payday can't come fast enough! I been prepping the wife so she's not surprised/furious when she looks at the bank statement, though it helps that there will be a paypal funds transfer from all my other gear I been selling to get this one. I've wanted a super-t mod for a long time but couldn't afford one. Little by little I stocked up on inferior gear, and a few weeks ago realized if I start unloading this stuff That ELA will be mine! Is it wednesday yet?!
