I applaud you for trying to do the right thing for you and your baby. I wish I had an answer for you, but sadly, I don't. I just have to believe though, that vaping a light nic level would have to be better for you both than going back to cigs. Not using either would be optimal, but if that's not something you can do, then take the lesser of the two and vape a low or zero nic juice. Good luck, good health and a Merry Christmas!!

I wonder if maybe you could get a cotinine test and just see what your levels of nicotine are and how they compare to a sort of average for cigarette smokers. Most tests on vapers so far seem to indicate that we are getting levels of nicotine somewhat lower than smokers. This varies a lot depending on experience, equipment, vaping style etc... The issue with pregnancy is that while nicotine does not seem to be particularly harmful at low levels in adults, it can (probably, possibly, sometimes?) be harmful to a developing fetus. While there is no question that you are getting less of the other harmful stuff (tar, carbon monoxide, etc...) with vaping, it's really impossible to say how much nicotine you are getting. If you could get a cotinine test that would give you an idea of where your nicotine levels are compared to a smoker or NRT user and might help you and your doctors make a more informed decision. If you are going to continue vaping you should probably try to drop your nicotine levels as much as you can.

I don't know. This is a really hard question. It's easy for us to say, "just stop", but as former smokers I'm sure many of us realize that's much easier said than done. You have my best wishes for a safe and healthy pregnancy!

You do realize you are telling this "pregnant" woman to listen to her doctor and at the same time giving her all this information that may influence her in a different direction.

Right?

Not a good idea IMO.

I'm just here to provide information

Really???

You want to use a pregnant woman as a test subject???

Please disregard any advice you get from here and listen to your doctors.

If you want to research vaping more after your child is born, then feel free, but we are talking about the life of an unborn child.

Do you realy want to influence your decisions this way?
I wanted to say that last sentence really worried me...the guinea pig aspect is for the lack of a better word frightening

I am not a woman, I do have 6 kids and my wife did smoke during all of their full term pregnancies...and being a smoker of a pack a day for 20 years...if vaping was available then...I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt I would NOT have wrecked my health by smoking

I will change my stance...Please disregard any advice you get from here and listen to your doctors

Many years ago when I was pregnant my doctor advised me to try and limit my cigs to just a few a day. I opted eventually for the patch which I wore through delivery and for several months after. Had vaping been available I would have gone that route probably, given an alternate source of nicotine delivery, which is undoubtedly better than all the other chemicals in analogs. Stress is bad in pregnancy, as your doctor has told you, so anything you can do to lower that is probably key right now.

Long-Term Consequences of Fetal and Neonatal Nicotine Exposure: A Critical Review

nicotine is a poison to a fetus. STOP putting nicotine into your body. it's not about YOU anymore. it's about the to-be kid.
First paragraph speaks volumes
Cigarette smoking during pregnancy is associated with numerous obstetrical, fetal, and developmental complications, as well as an increased risk of adverse health consequences in the adult offspring. Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) has been developed as a pharmacotherapy for smoking cessation and is considered to be a safer alternative for women to smoking during pregnancy. The safety of NRT use during pregnancy has been evaluated in a limited number of short-term human trials, but there is currently no information on the long-term effects of developmental nicotine exposure in humans.
What do we KNOW is in cigs...tar/carbon monoxide (in ratios MUCH larger than the nicotine in every cigarette, EVERY time, no matter the manufacturer or strength)...what do we know carbon monoxide does to the ability of blood to carry oxygen, what do we know about oxygen in the development of children and in healing (ever wonder why it takes smokers longer to heal than non smokers)...what do we KNOW isn't in vaping?

Is the "poison" the nicotine, or the carbon monoxide?

Two doctors have told me to just go back to regular cigarettes
Seriously? Given the choice between just nicotine and nicotine plus all the other toxic stuff in tobacco smoke, they'd rather have you smoke? Are these guys clueless or what?

Look, it would obviously be best if Staregirl neither smoked nor vaped. But if that's not an option, and the choice is one or the other, I know I'd rather have her vape if the child she were carrying was mine.

My friend. I am not a doctor so you should not listen to me. Also being an enemy of medical merchants I would have these doctors' offer to round up and put.....
My wife with her 2 pregnancies smoked madly. could not stop herself smoking. and we have 2 asthmatic bronchitis kids. No big deal of course but I would prefer they had been healthy.
Since VG and PG are widely used in food industry I would not think them be any problems. You eat cakes and they have glycerin for sweatener and glicol for antibacterial. Look any mouth wash, any cough syrup they would have PG and VG all right. Which bring us to the level of nicotine. Nicotine is harmfull for constricting veins which would mean in my ignorant logic to feed the baby less. However if you can keep the nic rate very low 2-3 mg/ml and if you vape longer periods you should give your body time to deal with nic with very low degrees. Your fool doctors would suggest you to feed your tiny one with 4000 odd chemicals only god knows what harms they will do more, I would suggest you to vape with very low nic level.
Again this is an ignorant logic. (I would add that I havent seen a doctor for myself since 1974)

Thank you for your humility, and you have gained my respect.

You are a good person.
