Send then side spare buttons to play with. At the very least you'll probably get some chrome buttons back, I'm down for like thirty bucks, but it also depends on how long the turn around time is / shipping..
I have to get back to them with a rough estimate of quantity.... I can buy a full assembly to send them, have them look at the material and tell me if they can even do it.

I got the "due to high demand" email today from sculpteo. I guess we really jammed them with orders[emoji16]

Same here!

I got one today. Then I went to the site to check the order status, and the delivery estimate was two days earlier than the last one.

Say Gdeal, can you tell me roughly what the thickness is of the inside flange on the spacer ring? I've got this notion I might try making one out of nickel steel guitar fret wire. I've got some Martin XL gauge lying about, and the sectional profile looks nearly to be a dead match. I'm betting I could solder or braze a piece into a ring and have the seam not show after taking the fret file over it.

8 days is what I got today.?
The last time I checked it, the estimated ship and arrival dates were Nov. 3 and 5 (which I think were the initial estimates when I placed the order.) Today after receiving the email with "We expect that the delay will be no more than a few days at most," the estimated "shipped" date on the site is tomorrow (Oct. 30) with estimated arrival on Monday (Nov. 3.) Maybe Sculpteo is so backed up they've started moving backwards through time? Heck, a few more delays and I might get the parts last week :D

Its 1 mm. But you can make it less or slightly more. You just need to make sure that you install your magnets afterwards for the correct height. The device can be assembled with out any ring as well.

It makes a guy wonder how many people ordered that haven't posted here and have just been lurking.
Right! Haha, I think everyone should have a moral obligation to at least post pics of their final results so we can all see.
On the same note, I'd agree that they would have their printers running around the clock to recoup their costs.

Thank you. That's what I thought looking at the model. I've been vacillating between "to ring or not to ring," especially since reading your build doc and realizing it would affect the magnet placement and final spacing of the cap. I'm liking the looks of ValHeli's creations without the ring, but there the marbling keeps continuity across the seam, and I'm with you on the ring keeping things looking neat on a solid color. I also would like an accent, and while I was tempted to order a metal ring and button from SW, I'm leary about spending that much and having it come in too far out of tolerance to use.

The metal ring looks really good. Just expect a lot of work to get it to fit. Its a good 45 minutes with the dremel, shaving of inside ring surfaces.
And there is a good chance that they will just miss on the spec and be out of their guaranteed tolerance. Then it a long waiting game between customer service and getting the part to printed again.

I don't know if everyone experiences the same, but the polished metal rings didn't seem very polished. I ordered a raw brass and polished nickel and they don't look all that different to me.

You'll probably have to spend time polishing it too if you want a smooth polished look.

Shapeways' polish brass is pretty nice, but IMO they're excessively proud of it:

For comparison, these are some of their steels:
