Remember when Shapeways *used* to do a nice job? These are from early summer 2013:

I remember, wish I knew what's gone wrong over there. It's gotten so bad lately I've pulled my stuff for sale and sent them an email.
On their request, I just sent them a fairly length email including pictures of there products for a side by side comparison with 2 other print services. Hate to pull stuff, but when a company can't even print a circle as a circle.... comes out oval shaped...

Ok, I've look at them also Tibs, but I think the real limitations of I.materialise is the fact they wont post models for sale that you haven't first printed for yourself.
I can't speak for Gdeal, but for items such as mine where they are all basically the same, just "mix n mached pieces" that form a "new" model, this limitation gets expensive and wasteful.
Even prohibitive as designers wouldn't be able to just upload a group of replacement parts someone needed as an individual model to purchase, without first purchasing it themselves.
I've written to them about this and they seem pretty firm on sticking to it. :(

Tibs, if you remember, we also had a problem with IMat, remember they had to reprint the black doors?

yes, we did ;) but the reprint was done without a problem and one might hope that quality gets better as time goes on. this seems to be the case with sculpteo and just the opposite with sw.

and thinking back - the problem with imat was caused by improper packing more so than bad print quality!

Glad I ordered my 2.1 from Sculpteo yesterday!

However, the original estimated ship date was 1/22. Now it's 2/2.

Are the production and shipping time frame estimates usually this conservative?

edit: now the date has gone back to 1/22, lol. Guess I'll get it when I get it.

i finally found the picture i was looking for ;) the difference in print quality struck me then and with sw getting even worse i think it's worth posting here. i know gdeal is not impressed with imat but maybe they could be pushed?
if not sculpteo is the only option unless there's another 3d printing company we haven't found yet
