Rick, my 26650 has the same problem as yours does. I have had it apart and back together about 10 times now and still not right. I even changed over to the lower profile button and it's the same. I need to take it back apart and put a new 510 in it and at that time I am going to solder in a wire connection between the lugs. Hopefully it will correct it.

When the button is pressed, all the pressure is on the joint between the solder lugs meaning the firing surface will tilt and not press straight down.
EDIT: When taking the pictures I noticed that the lug with the fire pin not fully centered in the slot and that has been adjusted with the same results - I even tried to "pull" the entire bar closer to the button with no luck. Another thing I notice is the battery opening seems to be so large that I can feel the battery moving down with the button is pressed.

The 18650 also works the same way, but I have never had a problem with it. In fact, it has never been taken apart since I built it. My 18650 has worked flawlessly since I first put it together. For some reason the 26650 just has had problems since day 1 and I've never been able to figure it out. I will probably mod it some time this week because I do miss not using it, (haven't used it in a couple weeks)....
Yeah, I just did that to show the throw of the button, it does adjust back down with no problems. I'm going to dremel out the slot for the negative bus to see if it is possibly getting caught on something I can't see. Something tells me it is too short possibly for >1mm
As for the battery, I did bend the positive contact up but it doesn't come close to making it snug - I can tilt the internal peice over and the battery will fall out. The batteries are MXJO's so maybe they are shorter than other 26650. This is my first 26650 mod so don't have any experience with them.
Rick- I have heard in the past about some 26650s being different sizes than normal. I thought people were saying most were actually too tall, but it may have been the other way around. And come to think of it, i remember hearing MXJO had this problem, also heard keeppower weren't correct size. But muzichead bought keeppower for his (i think) and he told me they were correct. So maybe the company got their stuff together. MXJO is a Chinese company I believe, that may be your problem

Great information gdeal! Very nice, i knew i heard keeppower were bigger!! And RickC, it is kind of funny that you built a Gdna and it worked flawlessly, then you build a peko and it gives you trouble. My situation is different, i built 4 pekos and then a Gdna, the Gdna was the hardest!

yeah, I guess it is one of those things.. I knew that I should have set it down and cleared my head when I put too much glue in the button to hold the firing bolt - I glued the freaking bolt to the nut because it all pushed into the bolt. Then I glued the spring to the button due to way too much glue used to hold the bolt. just should have stopped right there. 
I'm about to order a new set of buttons from shapeways and beg Livewire for a spring/nut/bolt for the button and try again.

Yes you are correct, the tall nut and had the bolt in it, while over gluing it in place - that was the lovely start to my day.

Question- Building my 3rd Peko. My first that I painted myself. I applied Krylon matte to seal outer & internals then applied 4 coats of Krylon grey metallic satin paint.
Am I okay with just another dusting of 1311 for a little more sealing protection or should I go for a few coats of poly on top of the 4 coats of paint? I have clear poly in a can that I could lightly spray or I can apply with foam brush. The finish looks good now and wondering if I should quit while I'm ahead!
Any thoughts welcomed. thx!

That 1311 isn't a durable finish coat. I used spray on poly satin. Dusted on about 3 coats and works great.

When you sprayed on the Poly did you spray from far away like a mist or spray like a normal paint spray 6"-8" away and coat.
6-8" away is good. And multiple light coats is far more preferable to putting it on heavy. You can get heavier coats by lightly applying from a can by a foam brush, but I didn't do it that way. Spray worked just fine.
Add: I think I sprayed mine about 12" away. Move the can at a sufficient speed to avoid puddling or runs.

Rick ,I had the same issue with my 26650 and ended up using a wire from 510 lug and cutting button lug short and soldering.frees up pressure from 2 lugs together
