I can't follow a lot of the really techie stuff in that thread, but it seems to be speculation that there's some kind of electronic doodad in the tank that matches up with the mod.

I like rebuilding my own coils, I can build them how I like them, and not rely on retailers to keep my vape in stock...

Really not hard at all... I was terrified of it, swore up and down and sideways I would NEVER EVER rebuild coils... but I think I had jumped on that bandwagon before I had vaped for 3 months. What you really need to do it is a) good light, b) good vision, or good reading glasses, or a good magnifier, and c) a really good cussing vocabulary. But the vape makes it worth it, along with being freed of the replacement-coil shuffle (and expense! and waiting on the USPS!).

If that's the case (we shall see) then it would be possible to add such a "doodad as you put it " to any tank
