Here's my inital reply (mind you I'm running on fourty eight hours)
I'm certainly not going to win any arguments based on photographic evidence. I had to overfill the carto
to get that shot, and you can see the resultant wasted juice on the paper towel: 3-4 drops worth.
However, I'm happy to advocate, when not overfilling, I've had nothing but
positive results.
As long as the silicone plug from the bottom condom is staying put and plugging up the pin/o-ring/inner core; the juice has nowhere to go, except where it belongs: polyfill and wick. Mind, that you're not just using air pressure to blast the juice into place. When you let go, the vacuum sucks liquid up. So if a trace amount of liquid does manage
to get into the pin, it will have an opportunity to get stuck in the wick/poly coming back the other way. I'm thinking
a possible analogy would be how sound absorption panels are normally hung with spacers. Any sound that gets through
reflects off the wall and has a second opportunity to be absorbed in the insulation material. mmmm, not a perfect analogy.
I digress: Yes, I blow out, but if any liquid comes out, it's trace amounts (2/10th's of a drop)...significantly less than what gets stuck in a syringe. No leaks if you don't overdo it.
Yes, I agree that the standard condom method is bad for all of the reasons stated. It's messy, impractical, and cumbersome...aside form the fact that you're applying juice straight to the connector and pin hole.
Yes, I understand that you have good reason to dissuade someone from doing something that would possibly jeopardize
the longevity of an automatic battery. However, using a syringe can result in the same issues via human error.
Regardless of these sentiments, you're in a position of having far more knowledge about the subject, and I acknowledge
that. My question to you, in all sincerity, what am I overlooking?
Alas....
Before posting that reply, so that I could have a fresh frame of reference, I pulled out a syringe for the first time in seven months and filled a carto.
Much drier than I am used to, and carto ran out faster. However, objectively speaking: much more consistence, better vapor production, stronger throat hit, absolutely nothing came out when blowing. Bottom line: the carto functioned optimally, whereas, with my method, it clearly does not.
I won't be getting into the habit of carrying around a syringe again: more to schlep and it draws unwanted
attention. Nonethless, syringe is best.
