Hi! New here to this site and to rebuilding. I have a question about coils..or rather what i am doing wrong. I have a magma clone by infinite on an istick 30 watt. the last couple coils ive built have been giving me problems. I feel like it fires longer than it should be firing... after i stop pressing the button it still makes a sound like its firing. I've built decent coils before and im not sure what i am doing wrong.

That doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong. How long are you hearing the sizzle after you let off the button? If it is for a second, then that is normal, it takes about that long as the coil cools. It could be you are heating the coil up too much, but you should notice that more in the vape than you would the cool down.

Now if you are hearing it for longer than a second or so then it may be a problem with the mod. I can't really think of a scenario where the quality of the build would cause a regulated mod to fire incorrectly. If you had a short it just wouldn't work.

Ohms ? watts ?
Looks like not much wick coming out the coil on the left side.
Wick looks to me too thin in the coil. I know there are some that like it loose but for me thats always caused problems but snug in the coil has been good.
Build looks uneven - is it glowing evenly from the inside out ?

try tightening the screws a bit -- are any loose at all? the thing is they tend to need to be tightened occasionally because if they get just a bit loose then the mod kind of goes out of wack and pumps really high amounts of power through them. you might also see the ohms showing differently if this is the case. good luck :)

Yes it was glowing evenly and i pinched it with some tweezers after i dry burnt it. its reading .08 ohms and i run it at about 16 watts because i cant go higher for some reason without it firing longer each time i take a vape.

Large mass coils will continue to "cook" after releasing the fire button. There's so much metal there... takes a bit to heat up, then some time to cool down. While they won't last as long through repeated re-wicking, that's one of the reasons I like 30 gauge in my rebuildables. Faster to heat and cool.

Uh, 0.08 ohms at 16 watts calculates out to 200 amps. That's not going to happen with your iStick30... At 0.8 ohms, you're at 20 amps.

Vaping attys with tighter airflow is a balancing act, and the Magma while technically an RDA, needs to be treated more like you would an RTA. Most RDA's you can get away with higher wattage vaping because you have so much airflow possibility, no so with the Magma. If you don't balance the airflow with the ohms and power you can easily run them too hot.

My ohm meter says .86 my istick says .9 so yeah your right.. but I don't go up to 30 watts. I stay in the 16-18 range. Thanks for all of your input.. im gonna try again right now.. its really frustrating me. I was loving dripping at first but now its become a pain because i cannot figure out what the problem is.

At that wattage/Ω you run into another problem, I don't think the isticks have step down, so you are actually running more power than you think.

Yep why I recommended a higher resistance coil. Easier to control the heat/wattage on.
heck that dripper should vape well at 2 - 3 ohms using a Istick 30.
