The only things I can think of are that you are not using enough tension or you have too high expectations. 30ga will spring back a bit but I find it easily manageable for a microcoil. It can't be twisted easily without a drill or similar.

Torching wire is a tricky business. You want it to cool down slowly so that it aneals. If it cools quickly then it will temper and be more springy. A light heat applied gently and slowly is the rule. Also try heating it on the former if you find it not behaving itself once you take it off; that will set it in position.

Another trick you can try is straightening. I haven't used it with 30, but it works great with larger wire, and i can't see that it would be any different. Rip tripper has a good vid on it. Basically you clamp one end of a single strand in your drill, hold the other end with pliers. Twist it for a few seconds, and BEFORE you let go of the pliers, run your finger down the length of the wire. Now you can let go. It's pretty amazing, and I do it with all of my wire before I build with it now.

Hello:

What exactly is wrong with the coils you make? Are the wraps uneven? Are there spaces between them? Or do you simply find the wire difficult to work with?

Whatever the specific problem is, I would definitely invest (~$10) in a better torch. Here's an excellent one that fills cleanly, has a good range of adjustment, and that you don't have to hold while using it:

Yes --three strands would be 1/3 of the resistance

I use 28 a lot and I make a fairly tight twist out of two or three strands...and then wrap the coil, torch and it's done.

Once any coil is complete, if you want to compress the wraps tighter, just grip the sides and squeeze together with a pair of needle nose pliers and heat till red hot with a torch...allow a couple seconds to cool and then it will retain it's shape.

Thanks i guess ill try braiding it then. I can build coils but im not that good at it yet but getting better with time and knowledge.

Never tried the twisting of wire yet. What's the advantage of
twisting wire guys? More vape, longer coil life or what? Thx

The only use I've found for twisting wire, is twisting 2 strands together to get a useable resistance from the stuff I got from the Mesh Co - you have to stretch the twist before releasing the wire from the chuck, or it just springs unwound again.

Stretching a single strand can be used for straightening it - it also very slightly reduces the diameter.

Ok that's worth a try, thanks.
