Before I got the 18650's I was out of town on a military project and all the 123's were dead. I just stopped into the first drug store and bought 6 cr123 camera bateries.
Problem solved.
You're not going to do that with the Protege 14500's or whatever it is they're going to run the V2 off of.

Actually, you will be able to do that. The V2 is going to take the same RCR123a batteries as the V1, just not the 18650.

I'll go along with Steve on this one, I think he made a great move.

I want the smallest, best looking 5v device he can make. I have a Protege and it rocks my 510 just fine. If I want 5v I'd much rather just pick up a smaller, better looking, better built Prodigy V2 than have to fool with switching switches and batteries. Also, if one needs repair, you have a backup.

With a Protege and a Prodigy, I'm not sure what a passthrough that should have an external battery source is good for.

I'm a bit disappointed by the current description of the V2. I love the way the Prodigy vapes at 3.7 volts, and the way the 18650 batteries last for more than 2 days. That was the original Prodigy concept and it was right on.

Now I hear that the V2 will be too small to take the 18650. Yes, I know, the Protege does 3.7; but with a much smaller battery.

I guess Steve has his reasons for giving up on the winning versatility of the V1, but the V2 is probably not for me.

Yup. And here I set with four 18650s and a charger, and ten RCR123as and two chargers. I'm currently vaping the 18650 without a resistor, but it's the only working switch I have. Tried it at 6 volts, but that's a little insane with an 801. It's hot. If they ever get the switches in, I'll order spares of both types and just stick with the Prodigy.

I'm like you, I am waiting on the switches to come out so I can switch and use the 18650 for special events. I am gathering a very large battery collection too. I could probably vape for an entire week without electricity.

Hi, Kevin,

Actually, the 18650s work okay with the resistor. The device runs cooler and you can vape it continuously without overheating. It's like a standard battery that stays fresh for a day and a half.

Hi Lamar,

I have tried the 18650's with the resistor and it's too lame for me. I have also bridged the resistor and was very pleased with the results. Problem is that I want to go back and forth because I really like 5 volts too. It is no easy job to bridge the resistor and then remove the bridge when I want to switch voltages. Maybe now that I have the Protege it will not be as much of an issue. I may get the V2 prodigy and keep the V1 for the 18650 full time. Lets see how tempting the V2 is.
