Don't sweat it, I think everyone gets your point. It's just that the people who hang out here for a while get it, that most everyone here is very cool.

I'm probably one of the few people that use a picture of myself and at the same time use my real name. But, I don't expect others to do the same. Besides they could be full of it anyway. Internet Forums often end up like the Lord of The Flies. People hiding behind masks and forming their little cliques. However, I would say that isn't the case for most of the people on this site. At least it's way better than other Forums I have been on.

Please feel free to ask any questions you have. You really will find that most people are very willing to help in any way they can. But also keep in mind that for many people this site is not just about information, it's also become a support network for keeping them off of cigs. So, they do tend to get a little defensive about any criticism.

If you go to my profile, you will see my picture on the cover of my album. My name is my real first name and the suffix of my ham radio callsign. I live in Rhode Island.

I'm not about to post my full name, address and telephone number anywhere that is public on the internet. I'm sure that ninety nine percent of the people here are good and decent people, but it's the other one percent that I'm not sure about.

Kgeiger002,
Firstly! Welcome to the forum! It's always nice seeing new people here. The starting out can be hard and pretty daunting for a lot of people. I know when I found this wonderful place in January (this year) I was scared to death. Was I really ready to quit smoking? Would vaping work for me? Which one was the best etc etc. This forum has been invaluable in answering my questions. As to your initial post:
I commiserate, however I don't fully share your unhappiness. I understand why some people prefer to be faceless. In some cases their avatars represent the person/thing/whatever they admire. Other instances it's their pets or animals they love. The profiles are best kept short and sweet. I like being told the general gist( Where they're from) but I actually get uncomfortable when someone over shares. And if they prefer to go by a handle then their actual name? That's their choice. I've known many a tech geek (heck for a time I was one, but then tech got smarter then me) that PREFERRED to be called by their handle offline.
But, the animosity of the internet can be off putting. This forum? This is one of the better places I've found. Solace and a safe heaven. We look forward to getting to know whatever you choose to share. Please don't give up on us just yet. I'm not going to judge you. I doubt many of these folks will either. We all share/shared an addiction to nicotine.
I'm Amber, by the way. Nice to meet you.

Yes - I hear you (Loud and Clear) CaptJay - it's been made very clear to me. I didn't mean to cause any bad feelings. I was having "one of those" moments earlier but I will have to say this thread has made me unwind and enjoy the fact that its "The Weekend !"

No bad feelings at all man, wasn't an absurd question, was just a question you posed. I doubt anyone really thinks I look like Pikachu anyway :D
And jerry - nah I dont think thats always the case - depedns ont he person and their posts; you can usually tell shifty from a mile off lol (I hope that translates into american lol)

I believe it was Carlos Castaneda who said, “To truly understand Someone, You must know Nothing of their Past.”

If I tell you things about myself aren’t you going to make assumptions about myself that May or May Not be true?
Now you got me to google this quote and low and behold Stuff White People Like came up and made me laugh, thanks.

Interesting thread and good question.

This is the first forum that I've been on. I've been pleasantly surprised at how welcoming, fun and knowledgeable people are. I tend to go by the content of the posts, because you do get a sense of who seems to know what they're talking about and who to listen to.

I do have a bit of information on my profile, but no picture ( yet?). My avatar is a picture i painted and it probably says more about me than a photo would. Someone asked me if the information i posted on my profile is real. Yes, it is...but it you have to take that on trust, and from what I write. Not necessarily how i write it- cause writing clearly is a huge struggle for me (as is probably obvious) ;)

Oooh, a fellow artist! See I already like you! Loving your painting too - what mediums do you use?

I drew my avatar too (many moons ago) I chose mine as it respresents a lot of things about me - I created it from a photo that I took, it's Aussie, & it also represents my love of animals :)

OK, scratch that, I read you profile, & your avatar is glasswork. Just Gorgeous. I have a thing for translucent, transparent stuff in my mixed media. One of my FB friends is a very talented glass artist too - I say I won't try it, as I could easily see myself become hooked on it, & both my bank account & studio would then burst at the seams!!!

Hey feebee, I love your avatar! I remember seeing in some other thread that you'd drawn it- didn't you have a link to more of your work too? Or am i misremembering?

I work in lots of media, pen & ink, paint, hand-carved wheel-thrown pottery (did i mention I'm scattered?). My avatar is an acrylic painting. The original is about 10"x10". The glass fusing is relatively new (just a year or so), but lots of fun. Teaching the classes helps offset the costs.

There are quite a few artists here on ECF. Nice.

...we now return you to the original programming.

Like most of us here, you just have to suck it up (the vapor I mean) and let the addiction to analogs slowly disappear into the past. As far as sound advice goes, there are plenty of stickies here that are approved posts providing sound info. If in doubt, Google it and compare what people are saying elsewhere. Follow links and make your own conclusion.

It's a jungle out there. You have to develop a feel for what's good and what's bad. If it doesn't make sense and you can't confirm it with research, can it.

I think I'm gonna like it here! You all are great people! Thanks for all the comments/advise.

I know I'll get through this. It's actually already getting better with each passing day.

Now I just need to get my twin brother to quit the analogs. But I know he will as long as I stick to my guns.
