Can't stand government butting in to everything. Good thing I have stockpiled nic, I DIY juice, have tons of flavoring, pg, vg and build my own coils.

Suck it feds.

(Ref. 2). Current cigarette smokers
are also more likely to have been waterpipe
and e-cigarette users than non-smokers (Ref.
3). In 2012, 80.5 percent of current high school e-
cigarette users reported current
conventional cigarette smoking

Just wondering how accurate the information is.
Were these students that used e-cigs and started smoking or students that already smoked and switched to e-cigs?

In the 20 months I have been vaping I have never encountered a person that said they used to vape but switched to smoking.

Like many here, I do NOT want to see e-cigs in the hands of minors.
I also firmly believe ANY form of deeming opens the door for the FDA to do as they please at any time.

* just added another 500ml 100mg Nic to my stash. Uncle Sam isn't getting a dime out of me!

CASAA blog: FDA releases e-cigarette rules

Today the FDA finally released its long-awaited proposed rules on e-cigarettes.

On its face, it appears that it is not as bad for consumers as it might have been, but there are still serious concerns. The FDA approval process is very complicated, and the details matter. Unlike some commentators, we are not prepared to say much more until we have a chance to examine them and consider them in the context of existing institutions.

It's important to remember that the recently published rules are only proposed rules at this time. The next step for the FDA will be to open a docket for public comments, which will last for 75 days. After analyzing the 240-page document, CASAA will issue a Call to Action for its members detailing any consumer concerns, instructions for submitting public comments and possible talking points.

To download a copy of the rules...

(Sorry for cross-posting, but a lot of people don't wander into the CASAA forum on ECF.)

Anecdotally, based on my 18 year old and his friends, all but two of the "teen vapers" I have contact with (and there are quite a few of them) either switched to vaping from conventional cigarettes or are currently vaping as they cut back on their conventional cigarette usage. The other two switched to vaping from chewing tobacco in one case and hookahs in the other. I pretty well think that's what studies are going to show with a few 0 nic vapers here and there who never used any tobacco product previously. That said, I think that the outliers are going to be the ones highlighted in the media, unfortunately. :(

I'm optimistic so far, at least the FDA is seeking input from all parties...

Restriction of online sales would suck. It's hurt the snus and smokeless tobacco community a great deal, basically restricted purchases of a reduced-risk product to whatever the local gas station has (dominated by Philip Morris), or to large, risky orders shipped internationally or through UPS. Having your vapes restricted to whatever the local B&M or gas-station decided to carry could be truly awful. Stale Marlboro tobacco juice doesn't sound appealing.

I think what's going to happen with online sales is some kind of ID verification. Very much like the ones adopted by the adult entertainment industry.

Frankly, with all the horror stories and misinformation floating around, I think the FDA took a cautious approach. If there was a way to ban vaporizors as a health hazard, they would have done so.

What I do think this ruling does is give cover to many on city councils/legislatures who felt pressured into "going along" to ban vaporizors. "See, the FDA didn't ban them" can sway those who sat on the fence and then went with the majority for no good reason.

The term "cigarettes" is a loaded term especially when far too many confuse "cigarettes" with "e-cigarette". Maybe it's time to change the terminology. Personally, I'm going for vaporizor since it better explains what I'm actually using.

According to CNN they will also be banning free samples, that means every brick and mortar that lets you try before you buy will be breaking the law.

FDA releases proposed e-cigarette regulations - CNN.com

Well kinda true... guess it is a pass it before read it type thing that our government is so fond of. It looks like if only open to 18, then it will be okay. I am not sure if squeezing liquid into a clearo is the same as giving out a free sample. It is more of taste testing.

"They also couldn't use words such as "light" or "mild" to describe their products, give out free samples or sell their products in vending machines unless they are in a place open only to adults, such as a bar."

I don't see any reason to panic or spread doom and gloom with these proposed regulations. They all seem rather rational, except the sampling part but I'm sure 0 nic will skirt around that as 0 nic liquid is essentially fog machine liquid.

I couldn't agree more. I was very surprised at how logical the proposals were, given that they were made without any formal public input. After we've had our say, I feel that we will reach a workable compromise to satisfy all parties. :)
