Thanks Cig, so what you are saying is for me at least 30g is the way to go even with my egos. I thought volts x ohms = watts, 4v x 1.8 ohms = 7.23 watts. I guess I was wrong.

This is what I based my calculations on.. Mac answering Maz

It's turned out to be a damned good spec for the Protank. More versatile and rugged than 30 AWG. However the latter at 9-turns on .07" (~1.75-78mm) 4.0V, 8W @ 2.0Ω pretty much defines the optimal center of production for the design. Right smack in the middle of Kanger's 2.2 and 1.8 heads. The 2.4-5 and now 1.5's being the outer boundaries. I'll continue to post validated (3 build confirmations) of both conventional and tension wind results (legs included) to expand the resistance signpost tables and hope others may decide to contribute on this thread. To newcomers having this information is vital to fast-track their quitting and adaptation."

Where did I go wrong.

I stand by my recommendation. What cig's talking about is your batt and I wasn't speaking to that. I don't know why they're even selling those things when an inexpensive mech or VV/VW and decent batt are so cheap these days. I do like 'em tho and have held to a few of the fat eGo V2's at higher mA caps. So cig's right you're going to run into current limits.

My answer from day one to this dilemma realizing my own draw and hit cycles in the real world was to double up, buy two so I could alt. You strain the batt you're going to get premature letdown across the board including sullying of the coil/wick otherwise. So I bought in pairs and quickly got out of the pens/sticks purchasing only moderately priced variables or mechs with kicks in 'em so I could use real batts. Then for the longest time as I was researching consumer building I stayed in the green zone. My fav combo being the KPT mini and kicked Magneto and I'd walk around with a pair of them often (and plenty of 350's).

Vaping Power Chart

SubOhmChart.pdf - Google Drive

These will give you an idea but not the cont. discharge data and that's what you want to set a parameter like 75% as appropriate to your vaping style. Meantime 30 AWG will fire and heat fast with a tad less drain to give you a very nice vape. My preference for 29g is durability and stability with termination. But given the choice and batt I'll opt for thicker gauge at similar resistance for more coverage any day.

(BTW cig on a similar vein, I've moved the Mega+monster over to a CANA50 from the ZNA where it's doing quite comfortably @22.5W. So I might have been hitting a similar situation on the ZNA rather than any limitations with Nextel flow. But none of the Protanks seem to like a multitude of seriously short pulls at high power. Increase the draw length/strength when hot to keep airflow high and it helps avoid throttling and flooding.)

Lot of info there to keep you busy, lol. Thanks cig.

Good luck.

Sure Dan, the miniPT & PT use the same heads.

On the wire gauge I would use 30 or 31awg because of your battery limitations. Evods and Twists, right? Going to larger wire with more wraps, even just up to 29, will slow your heat up time substantially with those batts in my experience. Slower heat up= faster gunking too. But yes, 10/9, 29awg will fit.

:)cig

Cig, I want to take the time to thank you for our assistance and advise with my question about 29g kanthal and my setup, it amazes me that u did remember. It took me by surprise and I was a little disappointed having made the decision to go for 29 gauge, better to know now that 30 is the way to go.
I like my spinner with the mini pt2, the vape is okay but when I rebuild it will be so much better. I just don't see myself carrying something bigger around is all. So I guess it's 30g on a 1.75mm, 1.8 - 2ohms, for now.

Thanks Dan, glad we could help. Yeah, 30awg .070 9/8 wrap wicked with kgd was my fav with the MPT2 and those batts. 8/7 wrap for the Innokin VV3 because it peaks at 3amps vs. 2.5. Vaped the twists/spinners at 3.7-4.0v dependent upon wicking density, vaping style and juice type.

Can't wait to see some pics of your first builds. Post them here even if you think they're ugly. You won't be able to hear us laughing from your house. Just kidding........or aaaaam I? No just kidding. We all have built some pretty nasty contorted looking beasts that vaped even worse than they looked. Bright side is you can only get better from there.

Have fun Dan,

:)cig

where is everyone getting the oring replacement for their PTs? Lost one somewhere during bath time

Chanel, which one? There are two different sizes. The link below is for the larger tank seals. They also have the smaller ones for the base.

Kanger Large O-Rings 2-Pack - $0.79 : eJuiceMonkeys.com, Evolutionary Vaping Supplies

btw: you shouldn't use electrical devices while bathing. Hehe......sorry, couldn't resist.

The formulae is: (V x V) ÷ O = W :p
V for Voltage, O for Ohms/Resistance, W for Wattage.. You square the voltage (multiplied by itself), and divide that number by the Ohms, to get the Wattage. If you're good at algebra lol, you can use that formula to find the wattage or resistance too; luckily my IPV3 does all that work for me lol.
.... so a 2.0ohm coil running at 4v, would be an 8w vape. A 1ohm coil at 5v would be 25watts.

Btw, thing I got my kanger o-rings at either myVaporStore or discountVapors.

Happy holidays everyone!! I love this thread :D

Thanks for the confirmation on the math. Show us some pics of your kanger builds Happy Holidays!

Not a kanger build, but this is what I'm vaping on right now - dual 26g, 8 wraps each on a 5/64in bit, @ 0.4ohm exactly. Vaping real nice on my new authentic CLT V2 dripper by Infinite, and IPV3 at about 40watts.
:vapor: 20141216_031751.jpg
I hand-wound this. I'm going to try to have tension winding (with a jig or pin-vise) mastered by New years. I've been hand winding for way too long!

When the efficiency goes up on that build you're going to be astounded. You know where to reach me. When you get the t.m.c. down we'll work on subbing a tensioned parallel for that single wire. You want to talk about fast firing powerful production. It's what I run on the Helios deck. I've got quite a few and the Raiju's as well.

Happy Holidays and good luck!

A 29 AWG 9/10 wrap on 1.778 mm (#50 wire gauge, .07") is the recommended diameter to find that happy center of performance for the Kanger ProTank. It let's you thoroughly fill the 1.8 mm slot with a thoroughly matched wick such as Nextel XC-132 or simply cotton with a rock solid stable termination if you install the coil while on the bit as you do your final set of the leads.

Gain the necessary motor memory and practice this to a point of precision and you will have about the most stable clearomizer install possible. Normally a 10-12 wrap coil would be the maximum. But with precision symmetry and alignment at set, you can conceivable get this…

(The Aero btw, at that point, and it ran great!)

Good luck Dan.

Happy Holidays all.

:)

Holy crap Mac... Now I gotta break out a pt2 and give that build a try heh heh. :)

Merry Christmas to all :)

Damn I love this thread! I wish I could double-like certain posts :D
And yes Mac, definitely soon on the vid if you're still down! I hope it's not hard to re-learn how to properly tension-wind, after hand winding for so long.. But I think it will be easier than I think

This is that same coil I hand wound. Not bad (I've had some practice lol). But guys take Mac's advice, and use his demonstrations to properly wind a tensioned microcoil - perfectly wound in the exact same direction/position that it came off the spool.
..... I can't wait to try one myself!! That coil that fog just posted above (^) is beautiful. I saw a pic of that same coil somewhere, after Mac had installed it - I was super confused with that lead coming out the middle, but now I get it hah.

I can't wait Mac, especially to try parallels. I tried those by hand a few times and couldn't pull it off by hand; the wires always crossed over each other. Sorry I haven't answered your PM yet.
Happy holidays sir!! And everybody! :p

Aqua, the pic speaks for itself. Your tension while hand winding was exceptional. You have perfected your technique and the resulting coil shows the symmetry. I doubt you will notice any difference in efficiency or vapor production when moving to pin vises or even a cigamajig because you have already attained to the goal; uniform tension and bias angle. Great job! The tools are there to make the results easier to obtain for those who don't have the physical aptitude to achieve the goal any other way.

Your build on the CLT V2 needs a little work. Keeping those pretty coils in perfect symmetry on your build will come with technique and practice though. Each device behaves slightly different when the leads are tightened.

Good luck and Happy Holidays Aqua!

This is an excellent coil. Much better than I can build on a pin vise or Cig tool. I am going to practice today and go slow. Friend bought me a magnifying glass with light and it clamps to the table so I will use that so I can see good.
