will the protege usb work off of computer or do you have to have more amps like some others i have seen?
If i can hook up too my laptop i,am going to order one ,If not what do you need
Kingfish, I always feel a bit out of line when I jump into this area of the discussion, so just take this as my personal opinion.
The answer to your question about whether or not your laptop will run your PT reminds me of how the skipper of the submarine answered the question about how deep will the submarine go. "Oh she'll go all the way to the bottom if we let her!"
As far as I can tell, there is no intelligence in the PT to tell the computer that the PT is pulling too much amperage in the event of a fault. The USB computer port is going to give all that it is capable of giving however that port is rated and electronically governed. Therefore, you have one end of the system that is not protected or providing protection. From what I can personally determine from my
vaping habit, I require between 1.5 and 2.0 amps on my USB port to make my vapor temperature hot enough and voluminous enough to satisfy me.
The other factor in my equation is the lack of nicotine I use in my juice. With no nicotine, I must have the highest amperage, but with just a little nicotine tossed into the mix, I can drop a full half amp and still get the same satisfaction as an analog.
I use a little $2.00 AC -> DC converter USB power supply, always. I have enough trouble wearing out my computer ports using intelligent equipment to ever dare risk plugging in my PT to my laptop or my desktop. OKAY, it's possible that I might get into a panic and take a toke off my computer, but it hasn't happened yet.
At first I was using cheap USB hubs. I burnt through a couple of those
vaping. I've been using my converter USB power supply for a long time now and it's holding up just fine. I'll post the link to get one of those if you are interested.
I'm sure there are many who disagree with my opinion, and I hope that they post their experiences so you have some more data to grind into the mix for making your decision.
