People we do not know what the long term effects are...accept it. We all felt fine for years smoking, we're all feeling fine after years of vaping. I am with you and agree i feel better, but long term is still in question. We are learning things along the way that has altered our way of vaping because of studies, that should be a red flag that it's not as innocent as we thought. there are gonna be things that have concern and long term effects is still unknown

Please spare me your faces and tell me what research has assured you on the long term effects.

Specifically, my health (verified). Blood pressure and cholesterol lowered dramatically, lung functions now operating at the same level as a nonsmoker, and arteries cleared to a degree that mystified even the surgeon who cancelled a bypass surgery on my leg.

That was back in 2012 though, so he's no longer mystified. He has released me from his care though, because my arteries are now in excellent shape.

That's my research, and I'm good with it.

Perfection, I seek not. If I was seeking it, I'd quit.

Right now no one in research has made the case that tells me vaping is harmless or that vaping is harmful. I do have to put a plus in the antivaping research.

A question for you DeAnna ... What substance or activity is totally harmless?

I'm not trying to be snarky here, just not understanding where you're coming from.

The chemicals that haven't been tested yet, you would be asking the same question if diketones were in question or high heat, but both sides have admitted it's a problem so now we know, but you would be asking the same damn question had it not been studied. We don't know what other chemicals are in flavoring because they haven't been found YET or discovered.

There are a lot of things that have not been studied yet but are considered safe enough not to worry about. Sometimes a study gets done on something like that which provides new data that makes us change our minds on some of these long held beliefs, but not often.

Diketones is a good example. I'm not aware of any data on them that defines the risk. All we know is they are probably not the safest thing to inhale so if anyone cares about it they should reduce or eliminate their exposure the best they can. And eliminating exposure is really tricky, because unless you have all your juices tested yourself you'll never know for sure that there is none in them.

So considering how little we really know about so many things in our world, what are you getting at in this thread? I understand that you are skeptical about research and I agree that's a good thing and as I said earlier I am also. If you're expecting someone one day to give us data that indicates vaping is harmless or harmful, I think you will be disappointed. IMO it is simply not going to happen. There are just too many variables involved. I suspect that over time we will learn a lot more about what ingredients have higher risk, and temperatures and other things will probably be involved. But my bet is vaping will never be considered completely safe. Neither is walking the dog (I came close to getting hit by a car doing that one icy winter day), riding in a car, eating a vegetarian diet, working out, you get the idea :)

Or maybe I'm just not getting your point, which does happen to me once in a while

I am soo happy for you, and you may be a good example...IN THE SHORT TERM....but my question is long term

I was passing my first Gallonaversery, PG/VG DIY-wise that is, thinking about how much that is. Actually it's just over 8 pounds and it took at least a year. A heavy smoker might use about 8 pounds of tobacco in a year ( I used about 4), burning it and inhaling. So for what's it's worth, the quantities are somewhat matched, and it's hard to beat burning for bad. The vape could be highly variable though, a few may end up with problems that are rare in general.

Look i saved my daughter from smoking by buying her vape gear. I am putting my faith in vaping at the expense of my 19yr old daughter. Don't shot the messenger here or get me wrong.

I happen to think that's GREAT (for you and for your daughter). No one is shooting any messenger and I do believe we are just attempting to understand your messages.

Good luck to your daughter. That's wonderful!
