I saw in an archived post someone making the comment, 'due to the nature of the provari fire button, it's nearly impossible for it to fire in your pocket'. Question is, is this true? It seems to me to be the opposite. The fire button sticks out quite a bit. Wouldn't this make if fire very easily in your pocket? Is there some mechanism preventing firing?

I don't know if it's impossible but I've owned one for over a year. When I'm out & about it's either in my pocket or somewhere down in my purse. In all of that time & all of the things I'm sure have been stacked on it in while in my purse I've never had an issue & I never turn mines off. But if it does worry you just turn it off before you put it in your pocket.

I'm going to have to test... just don't know how I would know if it does go on. Pressing the button 10 times is a pain in the behind!

It was probably my comment you saw. I remember that thread.

The fire button does stick out quite a bit, but there are two things to take into consideration. It's fairly hard to push because it's not sitting on an electrical push button. It is actually sitting on a copper leaf spring mechanical switch. Second, it has to be pushed flat against the tube in order to fire. That's why some people say it feels "mushy" compared to "clicky" fire buttons.

I've never turned mine off in the year I've owned it. I carry it almost exclusively in my trouser pockets. I've only had one accidental fire, and that was because I was literally sitting on my side with all of my weight on it and the button was turned just right. I noticed it when the ProTank's cap started getting hot.

It's really not a pain when you get used to it. There is a rhythm to the menu, I can do it with my eyes closed. <incorrect information deleted>

Huh? I think your first message said you never remember to do it, yet your second says it's not that hard... I'm confused...

Hopefully that's the case... I just don't know how I would know if it fired or not... don't know how it can be tested though

Yes there is a off..9 clicks of the button = PO , power 1sec the ON comes up ,1 click more and OF= off. I'ev only had mine off 1 time just to make sure it worked in the 1=yr I've had it..

I know I could click 9 times, wait 2 seconds, and click again... and repeat to turn back on... doing this every time I put in my pocket, however, may result in suicidal tendencies;).

It's not like that, at least for me. I only count the first 5 clicks.

1
2
3
4
5 power on
-- 1 beat (click)
power down
-- 1 beat (click)
power off - take your finger off the button for a second, it will show "On," click to turn it off.

To turn it back on:
1
2
3
4
5 - power up - it's back on

"On" only turns it off. Lol! But I never turn it off anyway.

I think that might not be correct about turning it back on. With mine anyway, you have to cycle back through to PO, switch it to on, and then it'll be on. I just tried turning it off, then going to PU, and tried firing it and it didn't work.

To the OP, I wouldn't worry about it firing in your pocket, its never happened to me

I carry my Provari in my pants pocket all the time when I'm not wearing a jacket. When I sit down in tight jeans, I just turn it so that the fire button isn't against my leg or the fabric of my jeans. The fire button has a pretty high spring tension anyway, so it's not a problem.

I hardly ever turn it off in the menu. The return spring is strong enough to resist light pressure firing. It's possible that it could fire for 16 seconds in your pocket, but most any movement would let it return to off if it accidentally fired.
