Yes, the VARIO looks amazing too. I don't know if it will destroy other APV's but it will be a nice option! It certainly looks nice. Why do you say destroy? :). Here is the link to the VARIO.

http://www.vaporbeast.com/The_VARIO_Advanced_Personal_Vaporizer_p/sk27.htm

You gotta work on your quoting skills lol :)
I said, as you quoted, it THREATENS to destroy all the other APVs on the market. Why did I say that? I thought I made it clear. With higher amps you will be able to vape at higher voltage on lower resistance and get a better vape. On top of that the new airflow situation and the fact that you can use all the presently available clearomizers without an adapter is full of win. Not to mention it's half the price of a Provari and MAY outperform it. We'll just have to wait for it to come out and some reviews to be made on it to see for sure, won't we? It looks pretty danged cool too.

Yes...my bad! :). Don't get me wrong the VARIO is on my short list too! It's interesting though, as I view the threads, there seems to be allot of negativity to any VV device that resembles a Provari. That is why I was interested in your viewpoint! The VARIO is very nice looking in my humble opinion. It also has good specs! :)

The reason for the negativity is that the devices that look like the Vario are billed all too often as the Provari killer, I'm looking at you Vmax, I don't think there has been much negativity aimed at the Gripper, mainly because it wasn't pushed as the best thing ever.

This may be a fine device, but I have more than grown tired of people comparing this device or that device to the provari, I'm not a fan boy, I'm really more of an Evolv fan boy than any thing, but I think it should be clear, China is not bringing anything to market close to the Provari, and that's OK. There is a well established market for devices like this, and that's fine, there's nothing wrong with that.

I also want to clear something up, some times I can speak and not think about what I'm saying, earlier in the thread I said this device was seriously flawed, after thinking about that, I was wrong, its not flawed, that is harsh, an advertized 2.2 amp limit isn't a flaw, that's what it does, flawed would have been advertizing a 2.5 amp limit when it only does 2.2, that's not for everyone, but its not a flaw.

I do think its wrong to bill it as good for dual coils, a 2.2 amp limit is gonna get you about 3.5 or 6 with a 1.5 ohm dcc. Now, if you are like others have stated, into 3 ohm single coils, you should get a great cape. In my humble opinion dual coils suck anyways.

I just wanted to clear that up, and apologize to Vapor Beast, I'm sorry if I made it sound as though they are selling an inferior product, and I should have used my words better.

Apparently it's open day on all legitimate mod makers.

When the Lavatube came out, a ton of folks got very upset about it being a rip-off ProVari.
On reflection it wasn't a total rip-off, the menu system was quite good although it didn't quite deliver the goods.

Nowadays, the Chinese companies are just blatantly stealing designs including menu systems (still inferior most of the time) no-one seems to give a damn now. A lot of folks say that this is all good for consumers and the market in general, I am of the opinion that it will just hurt the local talent, small mod companies and individuals.

We're effectively biting the hand that fed us, it gave us lots of cool products and great new ways of vaping - when all these people have been forced out of business I don't think the Chinese will give us anything innovative.

The Provari, if the Vario comes out at half the price and at 5 amps, will be inferior. I don't know who's making the Vario, but I do know that if it's a superior product on that day that it makes jkmtwos comment "I think it should be clear, China is not bringing anything to market close to the Provari" wrong as can be. It should be noted that whoever is on top is the king of the mountain. That top is measured not in where things come from, but how well they perform, and at what price. The warranty will dictate it's creator's estimate of its reliability. It's safe to say that the Provari's too expensive for most people and there's room for improvement after how long it's been out. It's not a perfect device (and I'm sure that the Vario won't be perfect either), it's just a good one. There is no room for fanboyism in my pocketbook. 90% or more (probably more) of all ecigs are made in China, so how is that a bad thing? Obviously they are working for people so don't be jelly (jealous for those who aren't down). If you want to support American products take a look in your driveway or garage and see what brand that car you got is... I drive a Chevy, for the record. That's a heck of a lot bigger investment in America than some silly 80 dollar APV. Furthermore, who is to say that ALL American products are automatically better than any other country's, including China? That sounds like brainwashing to me. If you come out with a superior performing APV for half the price of the Vario, and it comes from Timbuktu, I will buy it.

Here's my opinion on product investments:
Look, PVs, APVs, Mods, what have you, none of them are permanent investments. Neither should any one of us be trying to vape for the rest of our lives especially knowing that the studies aren't there to prove it's 100% safe and that nicotine has been shown to spread cancer considerably once it already exists within you. So it's not like it's a lifetime warranty heirloom product. I say buy middle of the road and replace often. That's my motto. That way if it blows up, or something better arrives, you can just buy another one. For that matter, never buy anything that's brand new because the price will soon drop (iphones, xboxes). As soon as you invest big in something then something better will soon come along and you won't be able to afford it. I've seen it 1000 times. Don't be that person if you can help it. Nothing lasts forever, and nothing is so futuristic that it won't be outdone, and soon. You never know what's next on the horizon. Don't be committed to one way and get swept away when the tide changes directions. Be spry and light on your feet; ready to jump ship at a moment's notice. That's advice to live by right there.

Who was the person who innovated the e-cig in the first place?
The basics come from Ruyan at the end of the day but an engineer called Herbert A. Gilbert came up with pretty much the same idea in the mid 60's.

Ruyan implemented it in 2003 and I'm sure they had no idea about Gilbert's concept.

ac19a79c3662d6fd5a0dc733375a5f2b.jpg

The first (torch)mod came from Trog in the UK (the screwdriver) as far as I know the ProVari was the first VV mod - all the big batteries mods came from the US and America originally.

The E-cig Wiki is inadequate in a lot of areas - I'd actually be interested in a detailed time line when it comes to E-cig innovations.

*EDIT* The Provari wasn't the first - it was the Buzz.

The Vmax supposedly had a 5 amp limit....is it superior to the Provari?

The Vario, if what I read is correct, is made by Smoktech, which means that 5 amp limit will be held back by a 3 amp switch.

I don't think you get what makes the Provari superior in the 1st place.

Another way to look at this is, more affordable products from China help make PV's more accessible to the Average Joe, thus helping more people get off analogs. Also, I believe there is always room for good, better best! In addition, although I would like to see more American and European manufacturing, many small companies that sell/distribute products from China
are formed, thus creating opportunities for small businesses. My point is the general growth and expansion of products will also help support the "small business person"!

If you notice, it is usually individuals that buy/appreciate these devices call them Provari killers. Most of the distributors do not market them as such in my opinion. Also, I agree with the quality of the Provari; it is my favorite best built device, and I do love it! That being said, less expensive devices will always have there place in the market place! Overtime, brands like Hyundia, Kia become better! I see the same thing happening with may ecig manufactures in China. Some of them are even ISO certified which is an indicator of a quality manufacture!

it went something like
e-cig a likes -> trying to find the best cart stuffing material -> fatt batts were invented with eGo -> cartos invented -> screwdriver first APV -> ????? -> vv came commercially available with buzz[/QUOTE

the Screwdriver was out way before eGo's and cartos were out just before the eGo as well, but very close. LR atties came out right around then as well. The first VV that I remember were box mods. (Ken maybe). Lot's of very cool mods were available before the ego's or cartos or LR. Stuff like the Chucks.

I started vaping around the same time that the Pen Style 801's first came out. (ancient history now, lol although I do think people are still using them)

I'm a noob to the site, but not to vaping. It's actually funny because I feel rather behind the times now. I was so content with my setup that I stopped going on line for a while. The new tanks and clearomizers and things were just mods people were making when I stopped keeping up. I did try some of the clearomizers and fluxomizers and a tank when they first came out but they all leaked and were not as consistent as dripping. So I gave up on them.

I'm debating ordering one today or waiting around for some reviews. It's late enough in the day that I probably wouldn't get it before dragoncon anyway, which means I might as well order next week (or whenever they're back in stock).

The amp limit doesn't bother me…A 2.8 Ohm atty/carto would get up to around 12W depending on how much it drops under load, which seems fine. I'd just need to buy different stuff for it (SR instead of LR). I like the form factor just fine, and I think I'd like the interface.

Question to anyone who's used one (or the vaporbest guys), do I have this correct?

5 clicks to turn on -> voltage on dial -> lights fade -> vape (top becomes fire button)
turn dial left -> resistance check
turn dial right -> current check
3-clicks -> set voltage -> lights fade -> vape (top becomes fire button)
5-clicks to turn off

If that's how it works, I want a black one. I just wish I hadn't ordered a 2 ohm atty earlier today, though I guess it'll give just under 10W, which isn't bad. If that's not how it works, what do I have wrong?

It was almost a nice looking design. The GLV form factor isn't really all that well suited to those who prefer large liquid capacity type heating element systems. I like my GLV supermini with a LR 510 atty for dripping, or using it with a1.7ohm mini rejuvenator carto. Makes for a nice stealth unit. If I'm running a carto tank or vivi nova or even a vision clearo, I prefer a tube device so it doesn't feel so lopsided.

When I feel like using a VV device, I prefer to use them with large liquid capacity elements. Dripping with VV was just a bit too odd to me. Large battery capacity with low capacity liquid.....just doesn't seem right. I use tanks on box mods and tubes, but it just doesn't feel right to me on a GLV type.

I know that there are quite a few folks running tanks on GLVs. It just isn't for me.

As to the Chinese ripping of the designs of others....it's nothing new. When the first APV/mods started showing up, they made copies. The Screwdriver spawned the DSE 905 which was basically a SD with a side button and LED ring. Cute copy, but it took a half dozen revisions to work out the kinks and, even then, quality was generally poor and durability was spotty.

I don't really get all worked up over it. After all, it's just an ecig.

Only difference in any device is how long will it last. If you want it to last, get the original. If you don't mind having to possibly replace it later, get the cheap one.

Devices nowadays are just like everything else. If your TV went stupid 20-30 years ago, you went and got it repaired. Now, if your DVD player falls apart, you pitch it and buy a new one at Walmart. If your car breaks down, you'll take it to the shop. 20-30 years from now, you'll probably pitch it and buy a new one. Wouldn't that be nice. :)

Trog got worked up about it -after reading his posts on UKV he does get worked up about a lot of stuff though.

I'm debating ordering one today or waiting around for some reviews.

My general rule of anything PV related: Never buy anything that hasn't been out for at least three to six months. First production runs are always buggy.

I break this rule on occasion myself though. Think about all the folks here with three or more different revisions of the same device. I've spent a sizable amount of money on mistakes that could have been avoided by being patient.
