I have two Lavatubes, a Vamo, an eVic, and a ProVari on its way to me. I got them in the order I listed them, starting at six months. My favorite right now is the eVic, but that may change when I unwrap my ProVari. My second favorite is my Lavatube GS sub 2.0, which is a telescoping VV mod.

I am glad I acquired them in the order I did. I do not think getting a ProVari early in your vaping career is a good choice for most vapers.

One other thing (and I swear I am not getting into the eVic VS ProVari debate). The eVic's chief weakness was the connection between the electronic section and the metal port section (where you land your atty) which used to be held in place with epoxy. This has been corrected, and now the head is screwed onto the section with two screws.

The eVic is not built like a ProVari. Calling it cheap is a bit simplistic, IMHO. It is about half the price of the Provari, and build accordingly. It is better built than either of my Lavatubes. Perhaps with the improved screw secured connection it is built as sturdily as my Vamo, which is less expensive, but not as good a VW device in my book.

If you are just getting your feet wet and can find a complete eVic kit for as low as 60 bucks, believe me they are out there I say go for it. Its a good mod but no Provari. Besides a few issues mine is still going strong. It's now a backup to my Provari mini. If i was paying full price like I did back then 104 dollars no way. Zmax,Vamo, minus the fluff of the eVic i feel are built better.

I refuse to participate in that debate any more. It's getting so old and tired. If you absolutely need VW to enjoy your vape, don't get a Provari...simple.

I haven't participated in this debate since my first vape on a Vamo. It's all fine and dandy, and the Vamo is great for the price... But it's no Provari. The rattlesnake thing is tough to get used to, especially after using a Provari, but the whole VW thing I just don't get... Hell I change the Wattage just as much as I change voltage on the Provari, what exactly is the benefit? But hey to each their own, right?

The "rattlesnake noise" exhibited by the Vamo, and any of the "Max" devices from Sigelei, Smok, etc.. is because of the chip inside that regulates power output. Totally normal, albeit a little weird to experience while vaping, especially when it occurs for the first time. My wife damn near dropped her brand new VAMO.

It just reminded me of a very light taser noise, lol. That made my skin crawl - that and well, I live in the desert - no one wants to hear a rattlesnake noise!

I actually kind of like that rattlesnake noise from my Vamo. I feel like it's just working hard for my vaping pleasure.

One of the first pieces of advice that I got on these forums was buy the best kit you can afford. So following that (excellent) advice, I would say if you can afford a provari, you should get a provari.

but I would buy a Vamo first because I like the noise it makes

Pah!

I like my eVic. I like the VW. Mine is the newer model and I've dropped it a few times and just recently fell down a few concrete steps. My knee is screwed up but my eVic is fine.

However, if you are already thinking about getting a Provari you probably won't be happy til you get one.

Kinda like owning a Harley. I won't own anything else now. :)

You know... That's a really good point. I find myself almost constantly adjusting the Vamo wattage (8.0...too hot - down one 7.5 mmm good [next hit] 7.5...too hot-down one [next hit] 7.0 mmm good [next hit] 7.0... weak- up one 7.5 mmm) you get the idea. its almost the whole time with the thing.
I can go weeks without adjusting the Provari... weird.

Just a small note, there IS USA based technical support/warranty coverage for the Evic by Totally Wicked if you buy from their site (6 months which is standard for them now, though I miss the nice 1 year long warranties they used to provide for their devices, I'm guessing they shortened them due to having to repair too many devices that had been damaged from neglect after an entire year of being dropped constantly, LOL). Most drops can be easily avoided by attaching your device to a lanyard and ALWAYS putting the lanyard around your neck before you walk around with it and/or vape. Ever since I put my APV on a lanyard two months ago, I have not dropped it even ONCE. Regardless of what device you buy (as long as it's not some bargain bin special from China), in general if you take good care of it, it will take good care of you.

BTW, I just ordered an Evic from TW which is due to arrive tomorrow. Will post here my initial thoughts on it, especially the build quality. The controller head and battery casing are on YoYo right now... I nabbed mine at 23% and 25% off. From what I can tell it takes a standard micro USB cable for the PC connection. The software and manuals are downloadable. So if you already have 18650 batteries, a charger, and a delivery system, you really only need to purchase the head and battery casing and you're good to go - no kit necessary!

I was sold on the Vamo. Now not so much! uhgg so much research and just now learning about the rattlesnake thing damn. That would probly drive my wife nuts with me sitting next to her watching a movie or something!

Then I learned that I can buy an Amercan made APV? Damn.. Now I'm leaning towards justifying spending 180 bucks. uhg.

i have never tried the pro-v, but i do have a evic. one of my favorite features is using the my vapor record to set the voltage at the level i want in real time by the seconds ( up to tenths). so meaning that i can spike it at 5 volts at 1 second then 4.5 at 1.5 seconds then 4 at 2 seconds and so on and so forth. really neat feature.

Ive lost track of how many times Ive dropped my Provari in the past year. Some of the falls have been from 4 feet or higher onto concrete, asphalt and tile. I was also involved in a side impact collision that totaled my truck and my Provari flew out the window and landed 20 feet away.

After making sure my wife and our new puppy were okay and then speaking with the driver who hit me I finally found it on the pavement. It had a few scratches on the tube but to my amazement and delight ( I was SERIOUSLY considering a cigarette at that point) it fired right up and has worked flawlessly ever since.

Even the scratches polished right out with some rubbing compound. It's the polished chrome V2 model.

Can't get a much better endorsement than that IMO :)

I can trump that :p

I just got the head on a 39% yoyo, mind you i had to wait a while for it to go that low.

I doubt I would have been able to pull it off with BOTH parts. Unless I'm only getting one item, I usually sit around until it hits somewhere around the 25% on whatever items it is I want to buy and then click the add to cart button and buy them. Plus I make sure I don't try to buy too many items at once when dealing with the YoYo discounts.
