"On an ego style battery or other device, when you push the button and wait the 2-3 seconds for the coil to heat up and start vapping, you then only have a 7 or 8 second vape time. With the Provari you have an very effective 12 to 13 seconds of vape."
If it took me 2-3 seconds to heat up my coils I think I would be looking at some different gear personally.
In 2 seconds I can be blowing out a pretty big cloud of vape on my Evic. The next hit is a lot larger though but it's not like you have some down time. And as far as the down time goes, if you do not hit the 10 second point you could press the button again immediately and go for another 10 seconds. Only when you get to 10 seconds does it flash at you and make you wait 1 second, which, for the sake of your atomizer life, you probably want to be doing anyway with most of them. I agree with you that they should remove that limitation. They should come with it on by default and let you change it to whatever amount of time you want. Perhaps they will change that in the future. Having firmware that can be upgraded is sweet.
The Evic I got from VapeAnonymous has the screws(newer edition) and I have dropped it over 15 times and haven't had to buy any parts. (5 times without the top shield on which ended up with a slight crack in the computer on the 5th drop. I knew it did damage on that drop as I heard the loudest noise I have ever heard when dropping something that time and damage is just barely worse than a stress fracture. I pushed the button expecting it not to work at all and it came right on and I started vaping again.) I do think the provari's are sweet too though. Definitely have a lot going for them. I did have the choice to buy either one (and could have got the provari for the same price as the evic getting a used one from someone who liked their evic better) and I still got the Evic and am not regretting my decision one bit. I am also the techy type and love gadgets so the evic has a little extra appeal to me that way. It's really nice to see how many vapes I have had on it too. Can get some good durability numbers that way. I haven't had any issues with my Evic so far and am currently at 27,804 puffs as of this writing and it has had plenty of abuse. So far so good.
I would never make fun of anyone for thinking a provari is better either. To each their own on that one. Both are very good purchases and are appealing in different ways and neither are so amazing that I do not wish for a future mod to come out that is better. Both are also good enough that I wouldn't be in a hurry to have a better device as well. There is still plenty of room for improvement in both of them. If you want one that will last forever and don't mind one voltage get an alpha from altsmoke. The button will never wear out and you could chuck it off a building and pick it up and vape it if the tank made it too. But if you don't know if you would like variable voltage you can't go wrong getting a VV model imho.
I wouldn't want to go back myself. Keep in mind provari's aren't indestructable either. Google can show you plenty of them that have broken. Yes, the feel very very very sturdy. But so does a bowling ball dipped in glass, but it wont last forever. Without a mechanical button the best they could do is add an extra button/switch unit and allow users to replace their own with cheap parts. Calling anything dependable with a single button that can break that you have to press over and over all day long can only be taken humorously if not mechanical or some new button type I don't know about.
