Happy to be... Not Smoking!!!
Hello everyone. It’s been a while since I left this thread but need to run something by you.

As some of you know I've been a die-hard Provari user for almost 6 years. I have a situation that involves my Ps and wonder if anyone has had this happen or can shed some light. I come to you since many of you have used Ps for years as well.

Background: I use mini Provaris 24/7 except once in a great while when I use one of my AIOs. I only use GS Air tanks on the Ps with store-bought coils…some of these coils are from the manufacturer…Eleaf…and some are after-market from FT.

Until about a week ago I used my last two AW IMRs 18350 bats. I rotate 8 bats and finally I had to discard these last two because they only held a charge for about 5 hours.

So to come to what the situation is. My P indicated that this last night's fresh bat (one of my new ones) that started out at 4.0 was done…after only 5 hours use it showed a 3.1 charge. So I replaced it…same thing. So I started testing to see where the problem lies.

Before I recharged these two bats I tested both them on other Ps (both used and brand new, never used before) without a tank on them and they showed almost a full charge…3.8. I then screwed on just the tank base…same thing. Put a coil on them…bingo…they show 3.1 charge. So I'm thinking the coil is the problem except that the same thing happened with a fresh coil.

The only other units I have to test this theory is a Vamo and on it those bats show about half a charge correctly (no numbers on the Vamo) and a Pico that takes 18560s and on it I show the correct amount of charge as well. Head scratching at this point…if the coil is the problem both these units should have shown almost no charge left. And just for the heck of it I tested 18450 bats on the Ps and their charges show as they should.

So my theory is that for some reason these new bat/coil/Provari combos aren’t happy together whereas AW IMRs/coil/Provari combos worked.

Does this make any sense? Am I missing something? Because at this point my options are 1. Stop using my Ps…NOT, or 2. use them with 18450s which defeat the point of mini Ps.

Do you happen to have any extra/spare battery caps that haven't been pressed against a battery for a while? I'm wondering if your little springs are just getting tired and aren't pressing against the new battery correctly. Any Provari cap with the little spring would be safe on the 2.5's--don't use one of the bigger springs like a P3.
I thought of that too and tested with a brand new bat cap from my stash as well as the one I’ve been using on my current mod.

@Bea-FL thry this, turn the ProVari off...without an atomiser, click through and check the voltge.

Then turn the ProVari on, and click through and check the voltage.

Do the same thing with the atomiser attached, and see what numbers you come up with.

It may be that these batteries are sagging under load, which would indicate they are not suitable.

ProVari off...without an atomiser. 3.9
ProVari on…without an atomiser. 3.9
ProVari off…with atomizer 3.8
ProVari on…with atomiser. 3.6

Does this explain what is going on and what do I do?

Did I make it clear that this only strarted happening with the new batteries? Never had this problem with the AWs. Sure wish they were still available.

buy better batteries.
Assuming the batteries are the issue these are the only ones Mooch thinks are great performers. What do you suggest?

Edit: I just realized that these are flat tops. I can’t find this brand anywhere with button tops. It’s actually pretty hard to find any 18350 button tops.n

I am sorry about the batteries. I have no clue what would be better AW going away really sucked for so many. I hope you find an answer.;

dress up the dog...

Like I need the competition from my court jester outfit, hmph.

The Dog is horrendously ugly but everyone adores him and goes on about him. If he were fatter, he could be like Henry the 8th or whatnot. The husband could be the "Final" wife will all the former mysteriously dead wives head's like hanging around his neck.

I could make the dog a fat suit and force him to wear it I guess.

THEME !!!!! LOL.

Fortunately I don't think we will actually know our neighbors that well yet and will not be in final home. Heh.

That is what I expected to see, your batteries are not good, they are sagging under load. The batteries you showed that Mooch suggested are flat tops, so no go in the ProVi's without some sort of adapter, and the Provi's are not protected against reverse polarity, so if you put one in backwards.snap crackle pop dead ProVi.

Send me a PM with your name and addie, I got a few never used 18350 AW's that have been stored properly, and the one's I fired up a month ago are working just fine, they are working like new, I'll send a few your way...

Good, non-18650s with button tops are difficult if not impossible to find. At least that has been my experience. AW was the last good ones I had. That’s been awhile now.

@AstroTurf and @ENAUD I realized right after I posted that pic of the bats that they are flat tops and added an edit. @Bronze you're right.

I have 2 18450 AWs that are almost new but Mooch doesn’t recommend any that I have found. I guess eventually I’ll need to go to 18650s…if I can find good ones.

@ENAUD and @Bronze what do you vape on these days? Since you have both been hooked on provaris for years too I better ask you this question in case the worst happens and I have to switch mods. This will only happen if I cannot find good bats because I have 10 minis and have only been using two all these years. And I take out my titanium and the dragon out for special occasions. My pico is ok but it doesn’t give me that great mellow vape of the provaris. Please give me suggestions.

@ENAUD you're very generous but do you no longer need them for your minis. I think I remember that minis were your preference too. Am I wrong?

Thank you for the help everyone.

hey Bea, I bought more than I needed, and will have enough in my rotation to give them a long life, the extra's would have gone to waste so I'd rather PIF with them than have them sit, win win for the both of us :)

Also, I have some workaround in my mind, I have all them Provari's and the chipsets and top caps are easy to remove, maybe I'll start building box mods with my ProVi guts and equip them with 18650 batteries, they would be like the size of the Radius, just gotta figure out a few details like how to fit a mirror in there to see the screen etc...I've got time. It might even be fun to do an Altoids box mod with a Provi chipset

Bea, I vape primarily with Geekvape Aegis Solo and JAC Vapour Series B. I like both very much. Compact 18650 mods.

I still use my P3 in mini mode and my Radius but only for testing flavors. Battery life is not an issue for that. But I also vape in temperature control and Provari never did that.
