I think when Karen Carpenter got started she thought of herself as a drummer first and a singer second. Perhaps because she really liked playing drums. But it quickly became apparent to anyone paying attention that, no Honey, we don’t care how much you like playing drums or how good you think you might be. You, Ms Carpenter, were put on this Earth to sing because no one can sing like that. So we got less drums as her short time went on and more of that gorgeous voice. It doesn’t get better.
While searching around for a clip that would work here, I ran across some comments (internet soitmustbetrue, right?) that she had a very wide range and was more comfortable singing in a higher register, but the execs decided the lower contralto sound would sell more records so had her change. No idea if that is fact, but if it is her performance is even more extrordinary.

We won.

That’s what happens.

One of the New Posts threads was asking about devices. I almost replied with, "Just get a Provari", but realized only a small percentage of folks might even understand that it was a joke.

Kinda. :vapor:

I can only answer for myself but mine aren't going anywhere. In addition to still using at least some of them daily, they're my "security blanket". I know that whenever-it-is that I leave this world, there will be perfectly good Provaris in my home.

Altria's now buying stakes in NJOY. I believe that will mean somewhere north of 90% of the vaping market will be controlled by Big Tobacco. Had someone asked me 10 years ago what the industry might look like in 2023, I don't believe I would have answered with what it has become. Maybe I just didn't want to believe it, or think about it, but I remained optimistic (silly me).

Groups like ELP, Yes, Genesis, et al, probably kicked off the entire Punk movement with their extreme virtuosity. It gets to the point where kids just look at that and realize, ‘No way”, and you get a reversion to 3 chord rock and roll,

That being said, these guys were on a whole other level from everybody else, and I mean Everybody Else, regardless of whether you like the music or not. I don’t know if there is now, or ever has been, anyone operating on this level, especially live unless you count Beethoven or Mozart. Stunning that they could reproduce something like this live 20 Years after the fact.

Funny, I was just thinking about selling most of my vari's so someone else might enjoy what worked so well for many of us all those years ago. Won't part with my gunmetal or dragon though. I remember when I didn't own any and went to a vape meet where they had a raffle for the 'new' colors. I wanted to win one in the worst way but didn't, of course.

I’m right there with ya. Still using them, still have back ups, nothing’s dead yet, expect that to hold going forward. I get ...... off at the FDA every time I use one. And we did win.. :D

Those early Yes in-the-round shows were absolutely mesmerizing. They were always great, but the circular stages brought something quite new to the R&R world, and I loved it.

My Gunmetals take a beating and my Dragon has still never been used (nor will it be, hopefully).

KD & I made a strategic decision, back when ProVape started dropping prices (the end was clearly near). Neither of us were big mech fans, but mechs were The Hot item then. Since Provis were so cheap, we opted to grab a bunch of them instead.

Linus has his security blanket, and I have mine.

In some/many ways, yes, we did. :thumb:

Well, I'm still using mine daily. I'll need to research this further, but it seems as if a couple won't function except with button tops and those batts don't appear available anymore.
    Thoughts?

I dumped a nice collection of Provari mods that only used button tops while there was still somewhat of a market for them. I sold them off cheap just hoping someone who always wanted a Provari but couldn’t afford it could pick one up.

I kept a collection of Radius mods, a couple still in the daily rotation, 2x Classics and 2x P3’s.

As long my wife and I are vaping I think there will always be a Provape mod in the rotation.

Pretty sure I've seen button tops listed on one of the reliable battery sites - but they may have been 650 and not 490/500. And I also remember seeing the buttons themselves that you just put on top of a flat top - but it wasn't a big name (though I remember it being reliable) site but with things as they are they're probably not around any longer.

I agree completely. No idea that things would progress to this level of corporate involvement. However, I'm glad that there have been prolific crafters of fine devices that actually last, and that I was affected by them enough to amass a small hoard of future-proof devices.

Well, if you're feeling nostalgic about that nice collection let me know and I'll help you replenish it.

And, my two Radius's are still my favorites and get the most use.

For v1-2. 5 (and can be used with Classic too).
