BLASTING from box speakers inside of a (9-10 year old) 1968 Dodge Coronet with a Thrush muffler, more memories than I can even gather in my head.

    Thanks, JWB! :thumb:
Your fam had a '68 Coronet? lol, We did also and I made my dad trade it for a '65 mustang when I turned 16. Wouldn't be cool to ride around in a coronet. Yes, I was a daddy's girl.

ETA, I just realized ours was a '66 Coronet, canary yellow.

Same color as my ‘69 Coronet.

I actually bought it myself. $750 and had to replace the torsion bar & muffler (Hush Thrush! LOL!!!). It was a boat but I had my share of fun with & in it. GOOD times.

'65 Mustang for the WIN!

Lol, my first car, in 1976, was a 1969 Plymouth Fury III. Talk about a freakin' boat!!!
My Grandpa owned a car dealership, he wanted me to have a "safe" car, sold it to me for $300.

I'll never forget the first time I drove it. The brakes, OMG!!! Ya just touched the pedal and she came to a screeching halt. It took me a bit to get used to. It looked just like this one.

The memories, so many. We used to pack 6 people in the trunk when we went to the drive-in theaters.
A buddy and I installed a nice stereo and speakers in it. I mean, '76, that was mandatory. Party mobile!!!

I sold it for $500 ( ) and then bought a 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix from my Grandpa. The Grand Prix is the one car I wish I would have kept.

REO Speedwagon performing "Ridin' the Storm Out" on Burt Sugarman's Midnight Special in 1977.

    Some REO Speedwagon trivia . . .

    REO_half_ton_Speedwagon.jpg

Little known tidbit, they named the band REO Speedwagon, after the REO Speed Wagon, a 1/2 ton truck that was designed by Ransom Eli Olds. Cool truck and dig the price!!!

Oh the memories you all are bringing back. My Mustang was custom, had cute bumper guards with horseshoe shapes and other stuff I have never seen on any other car.

I am laughing at the prices of cars from back then to now. My first brand new car was a '72 toyota corolla. Basic model, didn't even have a radio but cost 1700.00 new.

I had many cars in my lifetime, including a Vega lol. Also, had a semi automatic volkswagon beetle. No one believes me when I tell them those existed. I couldn't get the hang of a stick shift at the time so opted for the semi automatic since it had no clutch to deal with.

I owned at least 18 cars over the years. lol

My first car was a '61 Beetle. I learned how to drive a shift from jump, and continued to do so until only 5-6 years ago. I've turned lazy in my older age.

Heat didn't work so we hooked up a big airvent hose and pulled it into the car from the back. I could stick it into my jacket for heat, or point it at the windshield to defrost.

The floorboards were rotting out too. One fine day, I was driving up East Main Street hill (Stamford, CT) and her seat dropped about six inches. She SCREAMED!

I'm surprised she didn't break up with me right there and then.

Of course, we went up, welded some bars across the bottom, then drove it for another year or so, until it died.

Was that Bug one of the Two Speed Automatics? Had a friend who had a Karmen Ghia with that transmission.
I can't remember but I think it was 3 speed. I loved Ghia's but the stick shift kept me from getting one. I didn't know they made automatic shifts.

Chrysler made a lot of boats back then. U-turns were out of the question.
