Don't forget the grammies who sat through it, me included as well as blues clues.

And after I survived all the earlier stuff with my dd and older gd: power rangers, the doodlebops, The Pokey Little Puppy (argh) and Babes in Toyland (I knew every line of that movie).
How about Paw Patrol?

I'm glad to know it has little connection to the books,

No resemblance, other than the name.

As for the other, yes - there are threads, but nothing requiring having read any others. If anything, it's the reverse. Some other stories made more sense afterwards. Such as Hearts in Atlantis, which was okay on its own but I was mind blown when I got to the relevant parts in DT. It becomes clear very early on that DT was the absolute center of everything King ever wrote. Every book, every character, and every challenge were all born from-and-after Roland of Gilead.

Anyway - I'm not one to recommend things, which might be evident here on ECF. I'll say what I like, but I never tell someone, "You need to try this!"

Music and literature are no different for me. I know what I like, but that has no bearing on what someone else might like.

For me, DT was THE epic read of my life (and I've read a few, much like I've vaped "a few"). I have it on my Kindle, and would LOVE to take that journey again someday (sure would be a whole lot easier than the hardcovers were!), but I haven't worked up the gumption. At least not yet. It's much more of a Jeep Wrangler ride than anything in a luxury car.

:tumble:

If I'm lucky, I will, because it was uniquely wonderful escape for me.

Hearts in Atlantis is one of my very favorite movies. Actually, nearly all the movies A. Hopkins has acted in are huge favs.

Sir Anthony Hopkins is one of my most favorite actors. Only a very select few can match his acting skill, IMHO.

He is also a very gifted pianist in real life. He posts some of his performances on his FB page. He also posts some other pretty funny videos there.

Also liked his role in Meet Joe Black, with Brad Pitt. Oh and the ever lovely Claire Forlani… jeez.

Brad Pitt is one of the few actors who are able to match A. Hopkins acting level.

You'll get NO argument from ME. I only watched it because he was in it. My experience with King movies has been less than stellar.

Plus, one of my kids LOVED it, so I sat and watched it with him (his 2nd time). It was a standalone at the time, and I had NO idea it was a tiny part of the massive journey I was on at the time (with Dark Tower). As I was reading, names were familiar (not uncommon with King), but then the story unfolded, with a WHOLE LOT of "before" and "after".

Craig, interestingly, was also reading it at the time. Another son was too, actually. Craig was behind me so I never shared it with him. When HE got to reading the relevant parts, he called me - literally YELLING on the phone - he was SO excited! :)

It was one great moment in my life. I've been fortunate enough to have more than I can count, and I've forgotten none.

So, yes; Dark Tower is important to me. Hence, the selection of Roland as my avatar here.

I was NOT HAPPY when I read that King okay'd the rights to true to bring it to screen. Some things are best left to our own imaginations (in my sometimes humble opinion). "Tragic" is the only word I can think of when I think of that movie now.

Hopkins is a master of his art, and I can't think of anything he's done that I don't like. I think it's the eyes. Enitre stories are told inside of them.
