OK guys. Looking for possible help from Provari Nation. Just received a Provari in the mail that I bought. It’s brand new, never used 2.5.
When I fired it up, I got the dreaded E5 error-over voltage detected.

I’ve tried 3 different tanks, 3 different AW IMR 18490’s from RTD. All these work fine on my other Provaris. Cleaned all contacts thoroughly. Checked bottom cap spring. Everything is as it should be.

Without a tank on and I press fire button, it starts at E5, then goes to E8, converter detected fault.

I can go through the whole prompt menu and everything else works through the whole menu.

It’s just when I hit fire button, E5 and no vape. I already emailed Bill, but I know a response will take a while.

Before I contact the seller, I wanted to know if any of you experienced this error code, on the outside chance there might be something simple to rectify it before I send it back. I know my chances of a self fix are slim to none, but thought I’d try.

The fact that it's doing it with nothing on it is a bad sign. If you look at your others, nothing should show in that situation. I can't say for sure but it sounds like a board gone bad (for reasons I don't know).

Maybe someone else has other experiences though, so let's see who else chimes in.

My initial thought was the same as Classy's, until you said it did it with no tank.

But just for the heck of it, check to see if the voltage is displaying. If it's very high, roll it down to around 4(ish). I can't imagine that will work, but it's worth a shot.

Kabuki clones and N2. Both with 1.8 coils. All 3 work fine on my other units. Turned the Provari all the way down to 2.9 volts. It is properly reading the coils. I don’t know if you saw it in my post, but I’m getting E5, then E8 pushing the fire button with no tank on it too.

Not good. I've only one such experience and it did have to go back for "fixin". That was 5.5 years ago, and it's still running today (if that's worth anything).

See if Bill can handle it (?), or just contact the seller to see if you can back it out.

That’s what I thought. This isn’t E2. I’ve had that once when I had the voltage up too high. This is E5. In the manual it says the fix is “ contact Provari “, which I figured meant it’s not good. Lol.

I talked to Bill last week (email) and he is pretty busy. I have to send a couple 2.5's in but I am waiting till after the Holidays. If the seller has any more I would exchange it.
The only other thing I can think of doing is, do you anyone with a Programmer you can borrow to try to update the firmware?
Even if the firmware is up to date it might be like given it a factory reset.
This way you will know if it's a software problem or a bad converter.

If I remember correctly, there is no firmware up dates for the 2.5's.:?:

I think that's correct, and mine was actually a 2.0 (having thought about it). They replaced the board on it.

I'm with @ENAUD - see if you can return it.

I'm in agreement, either return it to the seller, (and unfortunately it sounds like they cannot send a replacement) and get a refund, or factor in the likelihood of it needing a board replacement and what that would cost (I think it's around $55 at least for the radius-- not sure if it's less for a 2.5) and decide to keep it. I'm so sorry to hear it. I've gotten the E4 error (I think it was) and turning down my volts solved the problem....

Good luck, reduce!

Those were the days, my friend!

There were not any firmware options on the LED ProVari's...it was what it was, and the mother ship would just patch 'em up and send them back.

Nowadays it's a tough call for those seeking units on the secondary market...this is the second report from someone getting a unit that's on the fritz...stuff happens. At least there's Bill the repair guy, who will get to them when he gets to them.

When I ordered my Programmer, I got all 3 adapters for the Radius, P3, and the 2.0 / 2.5 :?:
When the boards are made they have no firmware on them, they had to have a way to program them. ;)

Did they give you a link to the flash file?
