I thought, and think, that England has less anxiety than the U.S. Any society that is happy to just stroll down to the local pub, without concern for personal appearance, and have a 2 hour social meal with anyone that happened to be there is doing something right.

I lived there for good while a couple of times. The relaxedness was a prominent takeaway. Always lived in little towns around Cambridge in the East Midlands. At one time the water level, a couple of four hundred years ago, was wetlands and boats were used for travel. Our local pub was called the Boat House because it had docks in the back for travelers to tie up at for lodging, food, etc.

It is common in English homes that the fridge and stove are smaller because people eat out for the evening meal. Houses that we lived in didn't have insulation so sitting in a warm pub was nice, too.

I am sure that there are many modern homes, but the U.S. tends to use, bulldoze, and rebuild a lot faster. Kind of a sense of being hurried and worried here, in an overall way. Nice to sit with a beer in front of a large fireplace and visit with the neighbors. Just have to watch the low ceilings and ghosts.

nope again. I suspect the Russian hackers are my buds. Not to mention that, at long last, the spam offering me Russian gals have returned. Whew again. Missed them too.

Sounds nice and cozy.

You're not kidding about the low ceilings. I've been watching Midsomer Murders lately. Lots of low ceilings amd having to bend over to walk through the house.
