My pneumonia kind got me thinking about Idol (it's like the aural equivalent of comfort food.)
I decided to challenge myself this time. No singers I knew. I certainly don't know THIS dude. Phillip Phillips? I'm guessing it's a later season since he is using an instrument and whatnot. I think I was too busy to watch that year. I was also unfamiliar with the awesome "being (censored) slapped" by "some chick." Song. I didn't know it. LOL. It's just TERRIBLE. The "artist" is from Georgia. Apparently.
I was totally not quite entirely shocked to see that a little skinny white dude from Georgia was gonna take on.... the great USHER. Usher is and can be called a lot of things.... a misogynist? (I am betting those lyrics were ALL him.) Overhyped? Oh, probably. A better dancer than a singer (very probably, but he is good at both.) Happy to have heard this cover on Idol? Probably NOT. Because to be fair, the original is autotuned a-PLENTY but I have heard enough live Usher to know that well , he may be a dirty human being..... But he does have a certain amount of TALENT.
But, l will let you ALL decide. It might be time for more Nyquil, or if I'm feeling restrained, Theraflu. So. Y'all DECIDE. But I think when Usher is singing about his ........ being crushed by some chick... He means it. He is genuinely befuddled as to how ONE female object can bemuse him so. Of course, the video sort of also REFUTES this idea, but come on, it's USHER, he's not gonna sing it all curled up in a corner, let's face it.
Georgia? Not so much. The cover is TERRIBLE but he certainly is not EMOTING what he is singling, either. He also can't dance. And he has a guitar so that's a.... problem, but I will point out that Bono of U2 fame could neither dance nor play the guitar but has been caught on camera doing both at the same time on more than one occasion. So, it's not exactly an EXCUSE either.
Well, I learned a bit more about Usher during this post, LOL. So....
It's all good/bad is what I am saying. It's ALL good/bad. Like, if you were Georgia's mommy, you would have to TRY to be proud of that performance, is what I'm saying. I mean I WOULD NOT BE, mommy or not, but I will also note that my son never expressed a desire to be on Idol and ALSO thinks Usher is kind of a creep. LOL. So, I am cheered.
So, I guess I must conclude: it is all various stages of BAD.
Yeah yeah you're welcome. I go back to work tomorrow. I listened to an Usher song all the way
through without coughing. Life could be worse.
