Wow, I had one of those too way back. Thought that most of those stations bit the dust, as did my Grundig.
There were some pretty cool stations back a few years ago, one that I used to listen to was radio Netherlands, they had a program where they would read from some books translated to English, interesting stuff, that one and some others went by the wayside, I think a lot of them went onto an Internet platform. There is something satisfying in catching an odd weak station from halfway around the world and hearing people talk from a far off place, even if the language is different. I've caught a few stations from Africa, and Venezuela, and of course radio free Havan is still got a bunch of frequencies. I caught a station from Miami tonight broadcasting VOA...I used to catch a station from Prague...got to find my journal where I listed times, dates and frequencies...I like to scroll slowly
through the bands and listen for the weak signals and try to find where they originated from.
I've got a bunch of wire, and now were settled in, I need to make a random length long wire antennae. The telescoping one is pretty limited. I do have a Sony amplified loop and a really nice Sony short wave receiver, that is side band enabled, I have found a lot of side band activity is going on, and lots of data signals and high speed morse stuff being broadcast. It's been several years since I listened and dug
through all the grey noise

short wave DX'ing is kinda like them guys with the metal detectors, you never know what you will find when you start working your way
through a band... I've got a half dozen or so receivers

I guess my wife maybe right, I might just be a geek
