Last week was a dark and rainy one, Friday came in with sunshine and I just had to hit the trail, rode 27 miles on my mountain bike, through lots of clay mud and flooded sections of the trail, today I took it easy and only rode 19 miles, back of my sweatshirt is mud splattered but it was worth it, beautiful fall NC day. While riding past a golf course there was a sudden explosion of a tree branch about twenty feet ahead of me, I saw a streak of white as it happened, made me jump, WTH...I thought?! An errant golf ball apparently struck said branch and shattered it, that was rather unnerving to say the least LOL. I am happiest when I am alone out there with the miles slowly rolling by, a couple hours slip past like a blink of an eye, and not a care in the world affects me...

Tree branches in NC don't need a golf ball to knock them down. They fall all by themselves and if you're under one of them it's curtains.

My sentiments (concerns) EXACTLY.
Just missed getting clobbered by limbs any number of times. Fortunately you can hear them in advance so you know to head away from the sound.

Was sitting on the deck one day. A storm quickly moved in and the wind picked up big time. Thought I better leave. 10 seconds later a 10-foot branch about 3" in diameter came off a tree in the front yard and shot down the back slope of my roof and went right through the back of the chair I was sitting in. Just like a spear. Impaled it like it wasn't even there. I have a picture of it somewheres. That would have gone thru me like I was butter. One gets wise around here. Watch for falling limbs, flying branches, and glowing eyes at night while driving.

My backyard was like that until just a few months ago. I used to pick spears out of the ground, thanking powers that be for not spearing me or my dog.

I took care of it.

And sometimes those spears are stuck 6” into the ground. As you pull them out you’re thinking, “Geez!”

I've always had a nickname for hanging tree limbs/ fallen leaning trees...widow makers , there is a really big dead limb on a tree I go under frequently, that widowmaker has numbered days before it drops, hope I am nowhere near when it does

Widow makers is one of my favorite archaic words.

I also like the word for that high little tower (can't remember it, it's early) women used to go weep and lament on and like, look out to their husband lost at sea, like along the Maine coastline. I always wanted one (the little tower, not the husband lost at sea).

I don't worry much about trees here. I guess a Saguaro cactus falling could be pretty deadly (they can get surprisingly dense) but they don't fall over much also I think when they do it's sort of slow. Your back would have to be turned.

This was my first car (same color and everything):

th

To be fair, it was free, my parents like bought them up and gifted them to each kid at driving age and beyond. They were being "safety conscious." I'm pretty sure like, that was the idea.

The one I got had such bad rust, I think the seats could have fallen right through the frame oh, any old time, decapitating me instantly. Also, the speedometer would like, jump from 55 to 85 the minute you got to 56 mph. I'd say it would've been useful for cops as proof of like, "No, I didn't know what speed I was traveling at officer." Only, I really didn't speed in that thing because it also started to rattle and shake at anything over about 45 mph with increasing urgency and like, I got scared.

So, I guess it was pretty safe. It also tended to omit Unpleasant Sounds and Strange Odors at times for reasons unknown.

Don't get me wrong I had gratitude for it and everything, I mean it got me places. It also handled like a boat.
