Man how is it that dead bugs (if they are pretty) can be lovingly photographed and admired.....

When in High School me and my best friend decided to disarticulate and articulate (it didn't sound THAT hard) one of her dead bunnies, everyone gets mad?

I mean, we were EXCITED. We were learning about it in Biology and we even went to the back stage of the Smithsonian and everything! We quizzed the guy and he was like, yes you can do it by boiling and it's harder. Really, you want the (I bet you anything cute) insects that will eat EVERYTHING but the bones and stuff holding the bones together. I forget what they were called. Not maggots. But we were like "BUT you CAN do it if you have enough patience right?" He was like, "Certainly."

Not long after that one of her bunnies died (I think) of natural causes... It had been sick for a while. So we hacked most of it off, took it into the kitchen and got her mom's (favorite, as it turns out) pot and started boiling.

We didn't do a PERFECT job like with the flesh and hair and all and it didn't smell so good but we were JUST seeing bones and like, my friend's mom NEVER got mad (plus she had a beehive in the 90s so that was cool) and like SHE FREAKED. She was like "What have you DONE! What is in my POT OMG IT STINKS IN HERE! OUT OUT OUT!! You sick psychotic children BURY IT... Yes the pot too! Are you insane? What is wrong with you two?"

I kind of muttered under my breath "Well it's not all bad really I mean we aren't out doing drugs... this second anyway...." But yeah, you do something like that there will be intense parent to parent to teacher phone calls to determine if psychiatric assessments needed to be made, etc.

I mean JEEZ no it didn't smell good but we were JUST seeing bones bubble to the surface and we were doing SCIENCE.

But a dragonfly is all cute.

They are BOTH dead is what I say.

And yes, I would have no issues going to the Body Farm either because like, I have had a keen appreciation of death from the moment of my birth and moving forward and there is Nothing Wrong With That but my mom made me write written apologies to some folks, I muttered under my breath, "As far as I'm concerned the only thing I should be apologizing to is the bunny and only because we did not get to fully disarticulate and rearticulate it and it could have been like a very small dinosaur forever." My mom told me to, "Shut up and get writing and make it GOOD."
