oooh goody. A chance to show off my little girl! This is Zoe, she is a Boston Terrier, 7 yo.

Another Zoe...it does make a good name for a doggie.

She, like all the ones posted here, is just cute, cute, cute. Now, I have seen the "rare" ugly dog or cat but not many.

I'm usually suspicious of people who don't have pets...one doesn't have to like all types of pets, but if they like none...well...we just couldn't be friends.

I wasn't nuts about the rats idea at first. I kinda got them for my boys. But now they're in my room and loved on by me more then anyone. I love these fellows! I have four rats now but one has to stay in a cage by himself cause he's pretty damn aggressive to other rats. A pure loverboy to people tho.

Rats are very social, so he doesn't do great alone without a lot of attention from us, but there's not much choice other then getting him neutered and that's a bit more then I can afford right now.

there smart little buggers too compared to the other rodents, except ferrets but technically they are not rodents.

I had a smart teddy bear hamster once a few years back, it used to break out of it's cage, climb up the stairs (how he did that I'll never figure out, it was a whole flight) and come visit me in my room at night lol, my dh didn't think it was very funny. eventually i had to padlock the cage shut, I didn't want him to get hurt. Dwarf hamsters however a dumb little cuties, almost as dumb as mice.

I'm only suspicious of those who could have pets and don't...a lot of rentals these days are anti-pets, I prefer to be friends with people who own pets too.

I've gone thru years where I've lived alone and travelled for work, and I would never adopt if I didn't feel I could be entirely commited...and I've known some people who should never be allowed to be responsible for the wellbeing of another being, and have critters who suffer. Those who care, and Respect all living beings are fine in my life..even if that means NOT being responsible for the care of others.

Being a dog groomer, I see tons so many stupid owners it's flabberghasting! "Oh my dog isn't matted!" (says the lady of her dog that's matted from head to tail) etc etc. The excuses go on and on. The only thing that keeps me from flying off the handle at some of these people is the fact that they DID bring their dog to me so I can fix the poor things.

I don't understand why anyone would do that..
if you can't be bothered to brush your dog.. get a dog with short hair..
if you can't be bothered to bathe them.. get a pool and teach your dog to like it (I don't do this anymore... no pool.. lol my doggies shower with me about once a week)..

if you can't be bothered to trim their nails, have em run around on concrete all the time (my rotty has NEVER had his nails trimmed.. they're just little stubbies from running all the time)

but to me.. what's worse than seeing a dirty/long nailed/icky haired dog.. is seeing an obese dog. I do not understand how a dog (that isn't so old it has 1 foot in the grave already) can be fat.. it drives me nuts. I put a 20lb bag of dog food in my dogs' bowl at a time and they're shaped perfectly... it doesn't make sense. (And yes I give them table scraps and junk food.. still no fattiness)

I have to admit to having a slightly fat dog, not anywhere near obese, but 10-15 lbs overweight, which is a big deal for a Rottie. He's not an energetic fellow, won't fetch, chase ball, or pretty much anything else. I can only get him to play with me a couple times a week. He'll go for short walks (1/4mi max) and then he's done and ready to go home and curl up on his couch. Now some dogs are like this because their owners make them that way, he however was that way when we got him, and the hot weather doesn't help. I don't free feed, he gets 2 cups of high quality food every morning and 2 at night, no more than 2 treats a day, and minimal scraps. Still he's overweight. His vet says that aside from the extra weight he's in perfect health.

If I had a flock of geese that couldn't fly he'd get moving and chase them all over, course then he'd catch them, and no more geese lol, he's also shown interest in getting his own pet cow to play with but I had to veto that idea lol.

LOL I say get him the cow ;) .. 5-10lbs isn't a whole lot.. not for a rotty really.. Looking at the pics I say he looks just fine.. I'm not talking about a couple pounds.. what I'm talking about is the ones that you look at and go 8-o HOW DO U GET THAT FAT!!

Like when I was 13-14.. my best friend had 3 dogs.. a HUGE american rot (I swear he was 3.5ft at the shoulders!) he looked like a rotty/grate dane mix or something but he was papered 100% pure breed.. biggest rot I ever seen I swear.. anyway.. he was perfectly healthy and properly proportioned, then they had a smaller dog.. 60lbs or so.. just a mutt.. no idea what and didn't really care.. it was a dumb useless dog so I ignored it... and their 3rd dog was a jack russle that was so fat that he had rolls at his sholders.. totally reminded me of the dog/foot stool from beauty and the beast!

Or my little brother's old daycare.. they had a dog.. some sort of hound.. cant tell what though because he had no body shape.. was just a big ball (not quite as fat as the previously mentioned dog but close)

I see it quite often but those are the two main points.. dogs weight 50% or more on top of what they should be weighing.. like.. think if your dog gained another 40lbs!

Seeing a dog that obese bothers me more than seeing morbidly obese children

Rotties that big have mastiffs bred into them somewhere in the last few generations. There is a kennel called Big Dog Kennels in VA that does this, they eventually breed them back to be pure enough to be papered but continually breed the biggest dogs of the litter so the Mastiff size genes persist, it's terrible they're not properly proportioned and live fairly short lives.

His pics are from before he gained the extra weight lol. He dosen't look fat now really, but because Rotties are prone to joint problems as they get older it's important they maintain a proper weight.

Obese pets? A pet peeve of mine (no pun intended...well ok maybe a little). These dogs are hard to groom, have more mats usually, can barely stand on the table, kill my back carrying them around (or if they're big, really hard to get up on the table). All it takes is a little control to get a pet to the right weight. To me it's a form of animal abuse.

Out here in the country I see tons of "breeders". But all they're doing is breeding for cash. Do everyone a favor, if your getting a new pup and want a pure bred, find a reputable breeder. A place you can visit and have access to the mom and dad dogs. You can learn alot about your puppy this way. Ya, looks are genetic, as are personality quirks. Interact with the parents and you'll get a great idea of what your pup will be like as an adult.

These roadside breeders...UGH! They piss me off. They sell "designer dogs" like chocolate colored schnauzers or over priced other breeds. But what they do is breed their ..... every single heat cycle. This results in the same thing it would in humans. Mom's body never fully recovered from the last pregnancy so she's not as strong as she should be. She gives birth to puppies with defects, some not immediately visable.

I get tons of shih tzus and schnauzers with skin problems, eye problems and these defects hit when the dogs are only a year or two old!

Two of the worst I get at our shop are a couple shih tzus that are bred to have their tongues sticking out a little. Can you imagine going thru life with YOUR tongue hanging out? Dry, dirty, hairy...eventually split..etc etc. Makes me so mad! I actually have one shih tzu that has toe nails GROWING OUT OF HER BACK.

Ok I'll hop off my soap box now. (doubtfully for very long tho!)

Backyard Breeders and "Designer" dogs are a real pet peeve of mine, as is failure of people to properly care for their pets.

What a bunch of cuties!:D I LOVE animals. I currently have 5 cats. Four indoor at home and one at work. I'll try (hopefully can remember how) to post pics when I get home. I've had quite a few rats myself and they make wonderful pets. My cats used to just love my last one Patches-RIP. They would play together it was so cute. I've been thinking of getting another one to bring to work with me. I myself have not liked anyone that I've met that does not like animals. I've found them to be selfish only into themselves kind of people. And don't get me going on people that don't take care of their pets properly. I've jumped out of my car and yelled at strangers I've seen kicking or hitting their dogs.8-o I guess I'm lucky I haven't gotten my a** whipped yet.:D

For me, there is really only one reason to breed and that's to improve the breed itself. If you have two dogs that exemplify the breed standards, and have proven such in the show ring, then those two dogs should pass down their genes to the next generation of pups.

People that breed as a hobby or for cash are blah in my books simply because we already have so many unwanted dogs (and other pets) in the world. When you work with shelter animals like I do, you see more of that side then you can handle sometimes.
