Every time I read the title of this thread, I get that song stuck in my head...

"...and they called it Puppy Luuuuuuuuve.....Oh I guess they'll never know....how a young heart really feels.....and just why I love her soooooooo...."

:p

Dang it now I got that song stuck in my head, it's one of my mom's fave old songs so I know it pretty well lol.

What cute furry ones! Ok, I have to share mine as well! :D

We rescued Ambrosia just over 3 years ago from our local humane society. They said she was a corgi mix but we're on our 4th company and 4th dna test (too much disposable income I guess) and she's such a mutt the only breed they can identify for sure is chow. She has chow mannerisms so we believe that result. She had come from a large hording raid over in Stanton, IA in 2006. We have no idea how long she was there but are ever so grateful she came into our lives...

Ambrosia happy with a summer cut (she's waiting for me to throw the bone):

Something's going on over there (at the dog park):

Mom, why do you flash at me so much, I don't like it:

She does have a corgi look to her, but that could be as much dachshund mixed with chow as corgi. We once had a dachshund/collie mix that looked exactly like a shelti. Anyways, Shive, she's a real cutie.

Thanks Kelly! It's so true, you can't always tell just by looking at them. One DNA test came back Bernese Mtn dog, Belgian Tervuren and Boxer mix. We were like, but where's the small dog breed she's mixed with! She's too short for any of those.

But hey, we love big, pointy ears and fluffy fur, so she's a winner in our book whatever she is!

Grooming mutts all the time, I'm going to take an educated guess that she's likely more then 2 breeds. I have little if any doubt she has corgi in her (cardigan, not pembroke).

The spots of black on the tongue however, are not necessarily evidence of chow. Chows aren't the only dogs that have dark tongues. Just the most popular I would say. Other breeds that share this characteristic are Shar-Pei has them. There are also breeds that have spotted tongues as pure breds. From what I just looked up (cause I can't remember all of it) there are over 30 breeds that have this.

I copied over a short list of breeds here that are known to have spotted tongues...

Airedale, Akita, Australian Cattle Dog, Australian Shepherd, Belgian Sheepdog, Belgian Tervuren, Belgian Malinois, Bichon Frise
Bouvier de Flandres, Bull Mastiff, Cairn Terrier, Chinese Shar-Pei, Collie, Cocker Spaniel, Dalmatian, Doberman Pinscher,
English Setter, Eurasier, Fila Brasileiro, Flat-coated Retriever, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Gordon Setter, Great Pyrenees,
Irish Setter, Kai Ken, Keeshond, Korean Jindo, Labrador Retriever, Mastiff, Mountain Cur, Newfoundland, Pomeranian,
Pug, Rhodesian Ridgeback Rottweiler, Shiba Inu, Siberian Husky, Tibetan Mastiff, Thai Ridgeback

So really, your baby could be a mix of who knows what!?! Regardless, she's absolutely adorable!

Thanks! It's actually a lot of fun trying to guess the breed. :D Maybe one day we'll know for sure, but we're guessing chow and possibly the card corgi were the dominants. I agree, more than 2 breeds for sure!

Her mannerisms are so chow we've become pretty convinced (well, and the blood DNA test said chow ancestry but couldn't identify any others). Lazy, independent, well mannered, protective of house, not a barker, ignores toys, very cat-like. None of the pics really show her in full coat but she has the huge neck ruff and leg 'fringe' if we let it grow out. Super, super soft coat. Height wise she's only a couple inches short of an avg female chow. Corgi traits are the ears, face, and she is quick and fast on turns. She can't outrun most dogs but she can out-maneuver them! Could be a little herder in her for sure!

She's 100% perfect for our houshold, especially the lazy part. :p Nothing like adopting an older mutt. Housetrained and grateful to have a bowl full of food and someplace to rest their head.

Thanks to everyone for looking/reading. More than anything else, I love to talk about my dog. :)

Me too, and speaking of the big baby is lying on my couch belly up and fully stretched out. he is almost touching each end (the three cushions add up to approx 6ft), and he seems totally blissed out.

He probably is... and thinking, couch is aaalllll mine.... :D

Well heck most the time he's the only one who uses it so it pretty much is. I sit in my dh's rocking lounger (makes me feel close to him, even with the vicious sleep spell I could almost swear is on it); my oldest dd spends most her time at the kitchen table making one sort of crafty mess or another, on the computer, or in her room...she used to spend hours at the park (just outside my back yard) but after a few altercations with some neighbor kids to be out there she has to have full and undivided adult supervision which I don't have a lot of time for; and the baby spends most of her time in her playpen as she is a climber and it's the only way to keep her safe w/o spending every minute chasing after her (found her up on the kitchen stool once trying to get on the counter, she was 10mo old and couldn't even walk alone yet, but she sure didn't let that stop her)

Your white kitty reminds me of my Kottyn. He died in June 2008. May he rest in peace. Yall sound like me and my dh. I haven't gotten another cat yet, but he wants a dog. He would rather not have a cat and I would rather not have a dog although I do like them. He said if he could have a dog he guesses I can get a cat. We'll see after we get moved in a couple weeks.
