She's a pit mix of sorts...but god forbid you mention that to Allstate for renter's insurance. Because being a pit mix she is black listed. I told the agent that they were being "Breedist" I mean look at her... that is all she pretty much does is lounge on the couch. She doesn't even bark. She whispers...Her indoor voice as I call it....I really would like to get a dna test for her. Actually she's on the small size just lil under 50 pounds and her head is to my knee. She looks bigger in the pics then she really is.. I guess it's true about cameras adding 10 lbs..it affects dogs too.. :D

My rottie boy is banned for renters insurance by Progressive..and pretty much everyone else. It's not fair! He's a sweet lover, and I really should have renters ins lol.

Dog DNA Test for the Assessment of Dog Ancestry - Free DNA Test for Pure Breed Dogs! This is the latest one in the UK for which we're waiting on results. My brother paid for it, I think it was over $200. Also a cheek swab that is sent it, but an entirely different type of test. They map the DNA then give us results that we will use to compare to their breed database to determine the closest matches.

Hmm maybe I'll do this for my boy when I am back working. He's a pure bred Rottie who was sold as a show quality (he did develop some very minor cosmetic flaws as he grew up) but the Humane society kept his papers when we rescued him and people have trouble believing my mild mannered dark coated boy is really a pure Rottie lol.

I guess I should introduce my pack LOL.

Hurley, my beautiful Sibe is just a little over 2 years old - he has some health issues, but is my happy go lucky boy. He is my clown, and always makes me smile.
Layla our little peanut - she is 9 months old, and still quite a PITA LOL. I think she is broken... she is a midget for a golden and kind of dumb, but we love her to death.
Dream my yellow Lab is 12 years old, and just underwent some nasty oral surgery. Dream is my rock and my joy! Pictured with Dream is Aiyana my Golden Retriever - we lost her in December... she was my big bowl of butterscotch pudding.

Hello! I'm new to the Women's Room and thought this would be a good thread to introduce myself. :)

Here's my brand new dog Murray. I rescued him from the shelter last week, he was a neglect case according to the pound. They found him and more than 20 other dogs in a .... lab.

You'd hardly know he had it so rough -- he's housetrained and a 45 pound lap dog. Only problem he has is with big men -- he cowers and will snap at them if they come too close too fast. Hopefully he'll get over that with some time and love...but if anyone has some advice on how to gently correct that, I'd appreciate it! He's the first dog I've owned that's all mine, and I don't want to make things harder for him than they have to be.

Nice to meet you all, and I've had fun looking at all the puppy love pics! :)

Treats.... make sure any man that comes close has treats in their hand. He does not need to take them out of their hand...they can place them a few feet away to start. In time he will realize that men mean good things too. Make sure they move slowly, so he does not get frightened.

Welcome, good luck... and thank you for rescuing that sweet boy. Murray is a handsome one.

Another thing is to have men get on his level..or sit down. I am not sure that big men understand how scary they can be! My son towers over the cats (of course) and they do not like strangers..they grew up in a garage and were not socialized early. It took us forever to get them to be comforatble around us let alone strangers! My son sitting is no problem according to them..him standing is too much! They go out and won't come in until they think he is gone.

Welcome to the Women's Room Annastasia! Good to know you are an animal person too! You should fit right in!:p

We have 5 loves--2 dogs, from the local animal shelter, so they're mainly "who's your daddy?"--but Sasta is part Akita and Chow, etc and Cara is part pointer and border collie, etc. Poof is a white long haired 14 yr old cat with a Major Attitude--Simon is a blue front Amazon parrot, and Sky Bird is a parraket who has a lovely singing voice. They are all loved!

Annastasia--I worked at our local animal shelter for over 2 years as a volunteer and found that when an animal has been abused, he/she will cower or "protect" themself from somone who is similar to their past abuser. The best thing for you to do with your Murray is to keep all big men away from Murray. If there is a large man in your life, let him know that it has to be Murray who makes the first move to him. When that happens depends on how much abuse Murray was subjected to. I'm thrilled that he has someone like you to love him.
