Greetings,

Looking for some info on the "Ace", mainly is this a rebranded Joy 510? If so, is it US made or from China? Will standard 510 Addy's work? Anyone use this product and can comment on battery life and overall product reliability? Is the battery sealed or is there a hole at the top? Will standard 510 chargers work?

After 9 months and a giant tacklebox full of junk from China (E9's, 510's, 801's, and the Minipipe) I got tired of these things falling apart so today I decided to pick up the Protege. Went all out and dropped a little over $200 on what should be an amazing setup that I hope will last. Picked up extra parts too, just in case. Can’t wait till it shows up!

I ask about the Ace because I am still looking for a reliable 510 to stick in my pocket when heading out to the bars. All of the ones I have tried, from generics to expensive TW branded models have been total pieces of crap. Like several of my TW products, the extended 510 stopped working after 3 weeks. TW CS is a nightmare to deal with so I finally gave up and decided never to buy anything again from the company. The generics I have tried have not been much better, though at least they cost a lot less.

As much as the Protege seems like it’s going to be amazing, I have my doubts about walking around smoking it in public because of the size and shape. The main thing is I get asked enough questions about electronics as it is, which I love answering and promoting ecigs, but sometimes it’s nice to go out for a night and not have everyone you meet wanting to take it out of your hand and try it for themselves. The 510's are just a little more discrete and are still my go-to ecig for public places. If only I could find one that will still work after a few weeks.

Thanks for the info!

Take care, be safe.
Jonathan

buy the protege
just got mine and its amazing great hit small size huge battery life
yeah it may not be conventional cig size nut you dont have to carry 3 batteries chargers and stuff to keep you going

He already bought a protege, he's looking for a smaller unit to take out and abouts.

The Ace is a kr808d-1 unit. They aren't compatible with 510's, 510's are 3 piece unit's where the ace is a 2 piece. The ace uses a cartomizer which is a cart and atty all in one piece and are easier and more simple from what I've read on them, no fussing or mussing and they are refillable if you'd like for a # of times before you toss them..

I would definitely recommend the ACE for a grab and go ecig. I haven't tried the Prodigy or the Protege but i've been through various penstyles, 901s, 510s, janty sticks, etc since August 2008 before finally settling on the KR808 (and ACE is my favorite of the types).

It is my main ecig and I haven't really looked at buying anything else because it's so perfect. Everything else i've tried just doesn't wick properly. I find myself topping off all the time with the 510 whereas with the ACE, i top up maybe twice a day and use a cartomizer for a full week.

Definitely a cost savings involved instead of having to deal with more expensive atomizers.

Thanks for the replys.

@ Fishman7 Yes, I have bought a protege as per my post above.

@ Wench. Thank you very much for the info. It seems they are like the E9's then, a Duo model. I wonder if the E9 carts will work then. The E9's (Smoke51, Red Drago, and Greensmoke) are all 9mm thread patterns. Can someone from Puresmoker confirm if the carts for E9's will work with this unit too? I just started refilling my E9's today actually.

The E9 was the first model ecig that I bought, about 9 months ago, and I am very happy with vapor production. The taste of the carts is fairly mild to nonexistent depending on the flavor, but today’s successful refill attempt showed that a refilled E9 can actually taste great! I had seen a few videos online but none of the methods seemed to work well for me. Today I decided to try something different which worked out amazingly. I am still in shock how things turned out and will be using my E9's more often now. The only thing is the E9's are not very reliable.

That’s too bad about the Ace though, I wanted to get away from having so many different ecigs. With the protege using both 510/801 setups I can get rid of the rest of this junk and stick to using the protege at home and in the car, while the same atomizers on a 510, eliminating having to buy a bunch of different parts for different setups. Can anyone recommend a 510 battery that is not total crap or should I just buy generics for $12 and treat them as throw a ways? I really don’t like this option as LI batteries are really shi tty for the environment.

EDIT: Just found another post here, I guess the E9's are a different thread pettern and while they fit, they dont fit well, and are very loose on the KR808.

@ Rorschach, thank you for the info. I like the cartomizer units, but again really want to get away from having two very different setups to buy supplies for, hence trying to shy away from a cartomizer setup.

Wrench, the puresmoker site only lists the 801/510 for the Protege, the Prodigy v2 has the 801/510 and 901 listed. Are they just out of the 901 addon for the Protege, or is it only made for the Prodigy v2?

Never used a 901, only an 801, 510, E9 and MiniPipe. How is the 901? I saw photos but there is not a lot on the forums. Will do more searching on this end too. Out of the other models listed, what is close to a 901 is size and performance? Could I replace my 510's with 901's and still be happy with the vape? I love the 801's and that will probably be what I use most of the time with the protege, but planned on using the 510's as a bar ecig. If the 901/kr808d-1 will work the same or better then a 510 then I can just wait till I use up all my 510 stuff and make the switch to the kr808d-1 as a backup PV.

The point of this rant? My PV has to be serviceable even in the face of a ban. The batteries have to be available after the ban. The parts need to be renewable and interchangeable with each other. The 510 carts and addy’s are far more resilient to long term use then Cartomizers. Even if the batteries are crap with the 510, it will still be a better choice as a backup PV over a Cartomizer unit. In the end though, the protégé is the perfect unit in the face of a poss ban.

Plan for the worst, hope for the best.

I just took a peep, looks like they are out of stock at the moment on teh 901/808 adapters. They make them for protege also and not just the v2. He should have some in soon. (you could probably drop a email to them and see)
